Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

It seems like you are looking for a fight on this thread. :smile1:

I now have you on ignore and I am very sorry if I offended anyone. :smile1: Please feel free to put me on ignore if you do not like my posts. Of course Schizophrenia was being used as a metaphor for the split personality that Coach currently has. :smile1:

Perhaps I should have said "two different personalities" to be politically correct? In any case I certainly did not intend to offend. There is enough drama on this forum without me adding to it. If the mods could please remove my offending post, that should keep the drama down for a few minutes at least. I have asked the mods to remove my offending post, have put the "offended" OP on ignore and now this thread should be able to get back to topic. :smile1:

Not looking for a fight at all. I just find it in poor taste to make light of a serious condition and compare it to a handbag company.

1. $498 and lesser priced bags will be factory bags only and no longer sold in boutiques. - Not true (yet?)

2. Less frequent floor sets - Not true (yet).

3. Less siggy and more leather (more expensive) factory bags - Seems true(r) these days

4. Returns must be in person and approved by store manager, the return policy we know now is soon to be eliminated - Maybe kinda true? Someone mentioned their store manager having to approver every return. I've seen otherwise as of Friday, though.

5. Boutiques will sell pinnacle bags and smalls only, lower priced lines will be factory lines - Not True (yet?)

6. No more PCE - Not true (yet?)

I think the return policy is in the process of changing, and the pricing policy on certain bags has undergone some changes (phoebe). None of these policies seem to be being applied consistently yet though. :smile1:

I personally would never pay $5,000 for a Coach bag. That is practically the price of a Chanel flap.

Exactly, if someone gave me $5k and the only stipulation was to buy 1 bag from any designer, it wouldn't be Coach.

If they do that they need to keep it separate like the Reed Kraoff line is, it's really Coach but you don't know that it is because its not really Coach. They'll have to call it a different name because no one is going to take Coach seriously, just because you put out an expensive bag, doesn't mean your target market will buy it.

A new designer could take Coach anyplace. Could take the name/bag into the realm of very luxurious bag heaven! People saying they wouldn't pay this much or that much for a Coach bag....is....ridiculous and funny! Putting the cart before the horse??! No one knows and/ or seen where the company/bags are going....so no one knows at this point who will do what!!

Very, very true

The Coach brand cannot be transformed magically by a new CA to a Chanel level brand. It is just not possible for a company of this size to do that as it would mean abandoning their core market. It is a public company with shareholders so that is very unlikely in my opinion.

That said, perhaps it is possible to fully integrate it into a lifestyle brand like Ralph Lauren where there are multiple levels of the core brand. RL has a luxury label plus a mainstream label with clothing and accessories at every price point. Even then, though, RL is not on par with Chanel or even Gucci or Fendi in terms of brand cache.

I think a more likely scenario is a model similar to Michael Kors.

My 2 cents... :p

No, I don't believe Coach will transform magically either! But they could totally change their image and clients.... wouldn't be overnight, wouldn't be quick...but definitely could be accomplished! My 2 or 3 cents.

In all fairness, I wouldn't spend $5k for 1 bag from any of my fav premier designers either (Chloe', LV & Bal). Although I love my Bal's, I don't see anything about them that indicates they are better quality than my Coach bags. In fact, they are much flimsier.

Heehee did you mean the pun of "putting the cart before the horse"? ie the Coach logo. :D

I would not spend 5k on ANY bag.

But I would (and do) spend 1k or $1,500 or so on a bag.

I have a lot of bals and I think the leather on my bals is much much nicer than the leather on my coach bags. I was always very picky about the leather on my bals and hand picked them each time I bought though. :smile1:

There are certainly some years where bal leather wasn't as good as other years But on whole Bal leather is much nicer than the average Coach leather. And given that my coaches all seem to color flake and show white with each scratch, I would say that the dying process on my bals is much better as well. :smile1:

Just my personal experience of course....

Bal does make some nice leather bags, but on the subject of Coach if and when price changes take place it will be interesting to see if consumers, who are loyal to Coach will be willing to pay premium prices. I guess only time will tell. In the meantime buy and spend how you see fit it is your money after all.

Well said. :smile1:

The $20 is a shipping fee. In many cases the fee can be waived. IF Coach determines the issue is due to defect (not normal wear and tear) they fix it for free, offer replacement or in some cases a discount coupon, usually 40%, off an item of your choice.

Thank you! I never sent the bag in. It's good to know the fee can be waived!

My brother had bought a laptop bag and the leather piece which held the strap came off after 5 days. My local store manager whom I talked to wasn't nice at all about it. They said no returns on it and finally after pressing she said I could have it fixed. I had called the original store (I bought it on vacation) and he said he wouldn't have charged me as it was a few days and if I wanted, I could have returned it for a full refund. In the end, we had it fixed locally.

I do still love Coach... I pop in the store/outlet at least a handful of times a month :roflmfao:
