Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

Forget about $1k. It is unreal how much Hermes bags cost. Even if I COULD buy a $15k I wouldn't buy one. I would rather spend less than $1k and give the rest to charity if I had that kind of money to burn!!

I can't even imagine $5k or much less $15k on a handbag. I'm still amazed I ever spent as much as $2100 on one. It boggles my mind!

I know there are quite a few TPFers in the Hermes forum who have collected these pieces, I just assume they are extremely wealthy.

Well, according the to the article that someone posted on here about the person who is replacing Reed Kraoff, Coach wants to do $1-5K bags. They will loose me as a customer if that's the route they want to take but with the way Coach is, the bag will be in the outlet for 50% and then 40% + 50% or 65% off in a few months so I'll have a chance to get a bag $1k-$5k in my price range.

Sorry but Coach is 'affordable' luxury, not just luxury. Once Coach realizes this and works on what they are best known for 'affordable' luxury they will be better off than trying to go after luxury customers that have no interest in them. Hopefully once all is said and done, Coach will have a comprehensive business strategy and not be all over the place and inconsistent as they currently are.

I agree totally.

Those that can afford $5k on a bag will NEVER see Coach as a status brand. Coach cannot just declare themselves a $5k status brand. It takes years (decades really) of marketing to achieve that cache.

We will all be showing off our "$5k" Coach bags that we got for $500 next year. :p:cool:

Seriously to go from "affordable luxury" to "luxury" is impossible because those that can afford "luxury" (ie a $5k bag) do not want it to be affordable.

Coach needs to learn this quickly in my opinion.

Definitely. Coach bags are not worth 1K. I've had my first bag for 3 years and the "C" on the edges has worn out. Still love the bag.. I always get compliments!

The one I bought December of last year, the stitching has come off of the zipper tag after 6 months. Coach wants $20 to fix that. Wow! I would def not pay 1K for this.

Maybe it's just me, but the bag I bought 3 years ago is sturdier than the one I bought last year!
I always get compliments, but I wish I didn't have to baby it so much!

I do love the new feel of the outlet. The styles IMO are much nicer than they used to be!

The $20 is a shipping fee. In many cases the fee can be waived. IF Coach determines the issue is due to defect (not normal wear and tear) they fix it for free, offer replacement or in some cases a discount coupon, usually 40%, off an item of your choice.

I'm kinda boggled at the assumption that because Coach MAY make more expensive bags, it must not be planning to offer bags in the mid-range.

Coach has always had high-end bags with high-end prices on offer. Right now there's a $10K Legacy Crocodile tote on coach.com http://www.coach.com/online/handbag...-10551-10051-70791-en?searchKeyword=crocodile . I still see one or two bags under $1000 available:roflmfao::roflmfao::roflmfao::roflmfao:.

Coach at Harrod's in London has limited edition crocodile bags - http://www.globalblue.com/destinati...s-harrods-exclusive-crocodile-accessory-line/ . Can't find the prices right now but well over 10k I was told.

There have routinely been $1200-$1600 bags available - many TPFers have bought these, even at FP. And yes, many bought them at outlet :D:D:D. People love ooohing and aahhing over those details, even if they don't buy one for themselves, and I see a transfusion of more high-end bags as a good thing, the trickle-down effect (as has happened with Reed Krakoff's line) should be good for a lot of us.

So no, Chicken Little, I don't think the sky is falling because Coach might make some more fancy-pants bags. And I won't stop buying as long as I can afford what I like.

I personally would never pay $5,000 for a Coach bag. That is practically the price of a Chanel flap.

I wouldn't even pay $1k for a Coach bag.

And just because Coach makes a few exotic bags in exotic leathers like Crocodile does not mean that they are considered a luxury line.

Coach will not be able to sell both $300 bags discounted to $100 at the outlet, AND $5k bags (in large quantities as their main bag line) and be successful. That is bag schizophrenia in my opinion.

Schizophrenia? Very insensitive to put it mildly. Lets not carelessly equate debilitating, life altering illness with a handbag!
