Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

If PCE goes away, along with any other discounts, I won't be buying at the boutique. That's the only way I get reeled in. I'm so used to getting discounts at the boutique through PCE, Facebook, or other promotions that I refuse to pay full price. This month I also scored a great price on a Candace at a Macy's sale. I rarely purchase bags at the outlets unless they are deletes.

I love bottega veneta bags. :smile1: The quality is amazing on them. I have always wanted one.

I love my Balenciagas. I have been collecting those since 2006 and they are still my favorite brand. I love the leather and I still use all of them and add a couple each year to my collection.

Coach to me is a mid priced brand that is stylish and a good value in it's price point. I would never compare my Coach bags to my premier designer bags. Each has a place in my collection and I enjoy my bags at both price points.

But...That being said Coach is not going to be able to go from selling 300 dollar bags marked down 65% at the outlet (so basically $100 dollar bags) to selling $1,500 bags that are never marked down. Coach is simply not perceived as being worth that money.

I think you are basing this from a US buyer's perspective. Coach has an expanding global market and customer and they pay far more for little or no discount already. It could happen.

I agree it could happen globally. I know that global prices are higher but that is always the case for imported goods, and a lot of that higher price is probably duty and exchange rates. Maybe it is effective brand marketing, I am willing to give Coach the benefit of the doubt on their global branding.

It will be tough for them to compete at a significantly higher price point in the US given how they have significantly devalued their brand here however.

i know that if I am going to spend $1,000 to $1,500 on a bag, it will not be a Coach. I will simply go back to the premier brands I was buying before the Kristin line caught my attention several years ago.

I will always spend a certain amount of my purse budget in the mid-priced range. If Coach is leaving this segment, I am sure another brand will step up to fill the gap and offer similar style and value.

Coach also has no control over what Macy's and Dillards and other department stores do with their bags. I am not sure how Dillards is even breaking even because the volume of markdowns I have see there is astonishing. They have bags right now for 50% with an add'l 30% off. Way less than outlet and they are not old bags.

It's not that old.

I wanted to comment on returns. Whenever I return, they always ask me why, and the reason I have is never one of their choices so they always put "changed mind." I have returned items because the color didn't look anything like the drilldown, because the shoes didn't fit, because the FOS picture didn't show the bag had a separating zipper, and because the poor packaging caused the handles to make dents in the bag. It bothers me that no one at JAX is going to find out the real reason I returned so they can take action to make sure it doesn't happen again. They probably just think I change my mind a lot.

I think all SA's try to use the 'changed mind' reason all the time. I have them use the 'not as pictured' reason for me....well, it wasn't pictured with scratches so that's not a lie. They will never use 'damaged' as the reason unless it is practically destroyed. If it's minor damage or possibly fixable, it will go back on the table or sent in for repair.....apparently scratches aren't considered damage......

If Coach comes up with designs that i really like, i don't mind plonking the same amount of money I do for Gucci or even Prada. I already know Coach has very good quality leather bags (some even better than my Guccis and Miu Mius) Now I just want a good bag design, and I'm sure I will continue to buy.

Also probably worth noting, I'm not from the US, and it's just easier to get ahold of a full-priced boutique bag, than having to drive out of the country just to buy a MFF bag.

Coach as a brand really has a special place in my heart and closet.

Exactly! :smile1:

Just thought I'd mention that my outlet is cracking down. I returned a bag yesterday. The SA pulled out the lining and inspected it and made sure the tag was still attached. Then she took it to a manager with the receipt to get the return approved. I also had a PA I wanted to do. Pretty much the same routine. As someone that's received multiple used bags via CS, I didn't mind the extra "examination". Unfortunately those that take advantage of the system have made it harder on those of us that follow the rules.

Ugggg! Same here!!

I think "premier designer quality" is a crock created by marketing genius but to each her own. Sure, some bags have better leather etc but imo, none of them are worth the price tag to me.

I TOTALLY agree even though I have some premier bags. I don't see what justifies the price of my LV, Balenciaga & Chloe' bags... but if I wanted them, which I did, that's what I had to pay. But yeah, anything over about $500-$700, you are pretty much paying for the name.

I think it would be a terrific time to re-brand the outlets. They are already half-way there! And while I know a more restrictive return policy would be not be popular in a lot of minds, I'm certain it would cut down on the number of dissatisfied customers who get someone else's used return. And hopefully it would eliminate the bag-squatters, who take popular bags out of the system at FP and then return/rebuy at outlet months later.

Lol bag squatters! I love that word!
