Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

I've noticed some of the newer lower price point bags are going to non-flagship stores ... I think my SA called them something like "base" stores? In my area, those other stores are in generally lower priced malls so they would attract people looking for lower priced FP bags if any. I'm wondering if part of the new plan is tiered FP stores, at least tiered more than before.

I'm loving the new direction Coach is taking their factory bags. I never cared much for the average mff siggy bag. I still see a clear distinction between the FP and mff leather bags so there's no room for confusion imo.
I've read on this forum, many times, complaints about busloads of tourists buying armloads of mff siggy, maybe now they'll buy armloads of mff leather and FP bags.

I'm loving the new MFF bags too :D

I am going to agree with you -!!!!!!!!!!

I would not spend 5k on ANY bag.

But I would (and do) spend 1k or $1,500 or so on a bag.

I have a lot of bals and I think the leather on my bals is much much nicer than the leather on my coach bags. I was always very picky about the leather on my bals and hand picked them each time I bought though. :smile1:

There are certainly some years where bal leather wasn't as good as other years But on whole Bal leather is much nicer than the average Coach leather. And given that my coaches all seem to color flake and show white with each scratch, I would say that the dying process on my bals is much better as well. :smile1:

Just my personal experience of course....

Hi! Trying to PM you, but for some reason it won't let me...?:shrugs:

Welcome to my pm world emilybug. I think we figured out the techie issues finally :p:smile1:

As to Coach's new business model, it seems to be all over the board at the moment. Selling full price bags at full price at an outlet store, not discounting certain styles (phoebe) but then sneaking certain colors to the outlets anyway at 50% off, and having a pce every other week or so, all the while declaring that there will be less discounts, all seem to be a very confused business model to me.

Coach posted quarterly earnings today. They were on trend with WSJ predictions, but North American sales were down a little bit. Asia sales are what is saving the company from showing regression. Department store sales have improved, too. This may be due to their ability to discount the merchandise publicly.

Two big company executives are leaving at the end of August. With Reed taking off in the next year, there must be some serious behind-the-scenes drama happening in New York.

AND in other development, Coach is selling Reed Krakoff to... Reed Krakoff?! Interesting tactic there.

There was a provision in Reed's employment agreement such that if the RK brand didn't have a buyer (specifically, a binding agreement for the sale of the brand) by yesterday (June 29), Reed would've lost $3 million of his bonus. Now that's motivation.

I recall reading that Reed was interested in buying his namesake brand and had been seeking investors to help accomplish this.

Thanks for posting!
