Not Sure How I Feel About New Business Model...

The flagship (fashion?) store carries all the nicer bags, like they've had all the Carolines, Lily, Carrie, etc. The Coach store at the mall only has the lower priced bags, Madison totes, Isabelles, Poppy, etc. not even the regular Carrie. When the floor set changes, I head for the flagship store to see all the great new bags.

Do you know when the floor set is scheduled to change?

OK, I didn't know about the little boutiques or the floating checkouts - that's insane! I don't understand why companies try to fix things that aren't broken. I get trying to stay fresh and relevant but you don't want to drive away your core base, either. Blah....

I actually like Penneys. I hope they fix their issues, I'd hate to see them go away permanently.

Actually I did consider the checkout system broken at Penney's. They used to have checkout stations in every department and you didn't have to wait. When they switched to centralized checkout stations and the lines were a mile long, I stopped shopping there. It just wasn't worth it to wait when I wasn't buying very much. So I think floating checkouts is a step in the right direction.

As far as the little boutiques, Target has started doing this too. I don't know how well it is working. After Christmas, lots of those things that were also at Neiman Marcus were on clearance.

I haven't been back to Penney's since they implemented all these changes. The only thing I ever buy there is DH's underwear.

I think Coach has already started some changes. For example, all the deletes on FOS and at the outlets are only 50% off. There used to be much better bargains when bags were deleted. I never understood why they used to discount new deletes so much. If they don't want to have sales in their FP stores, I don't know why they couldn't price new deletes at 25 to 30% off, and lower the prices later if they don't sell.

The problem I see is that once you give something, you can't take it away without consequences. Like Penney's eliminating coupons, if they never had coupons in the first place, customers wouldn't feel like they lost something. If they get rid of PCE, for those of us who always waited for PCE before we bought something, it will be difficult to convince us to pay FP.

The outlet near me doesn't get a lot of deletes, and the deletes don't sell very well. The market here wouldn't support higher priced factory bags.

If they change the return policy, I will buy a lot less.

If it were my company, I wouldn't change lines so frequently. I would keep things in FP much longer. That is what upsets most of us when we buy at FP - if it is deleted in a few months, we feel stupid for not waiting. But if it is more like 6 months, by that time, we will already be using our bags and not feel bad that we didn't wait for it to go to the outlet.

Just my opinion.

1. $498 and lesser priced bags will be factory bags only and no longer sold in boutiques.

2. Less frequent floor sets

3. Less siggy and more leather (more expensive) factory bags

4. Returns must be in person and approved by store manager, the return policy we know now is soon to be eliminated

5. Boutiques will sell pinnacle bags and smalls only, lower priced lines will be factory lines

6. No more PCE

I'm not sure if all of this will take place sooner or later or at all but this is what I've heard from more than one reliable source...

Where did you get this information from?

I agree with keeping the lines available longer. I remember seeing a gorgeous large sophia in the store once and when I went back later to buy it, it was long gone.

Agreed!!

How doesn't it add anything to the conversation? For all we know you could of made this up or gotten it from an unreliable source. This "new business model" could be completely false.

Why shoot the messenger? Even if all the details of the business model change are not completely correct, a business model change for Coach is coming. It needs to come. Coach's sales are slipping and they are devaluing their brand with their current business model. Reed Krakoff himself has even talked about the business model changes coming this summer in several interviews.

You can google his name and I am sure you will find his take on it.

Why shoot the messenger? Because this messenger won't reveal who sent the message. It was an honest question, but now I really want to know why the source cannot be revealed?
