Ooops- tried to keep it short but :p

I bought a Prada bag a couple of years ago, January of 2013 to be exact at Nordstrom. I was in my early 20s and fell in love with the bag. Its a nice big tote size and even has a cross body- so in theory it can fit in a lot of things. When I bought it, I bought it thinking I would use it for everyday use- but as I didn't want to use it right away I kept it under my bed for the past several years and instead started using Longchamp bags on days I didn't want to use my backpack.

Fast forward to now, November 2016. I finally got my Prada bag out from under my bed and got it out when I was seeing my ex :p ha. He went to go play pro sports after college and I wanted to introduce him to a family friend as they play the same sport and I thought he could give him some advice.

ANYWAYS...when I started putting things in my Prada bag I realized that OMG the bag itself is pretty heavy so once I started adding a notebook, and some things to read, it was starting to weight pretty heavy. I've been in physical therapy for over a year to help with my chronic pain in my neck, back and shoulders and I knew this was going to be a problem. So I ended up not using my Prada bag and going back to my trust-worthy Longchamp.

I've always heard that Nordstrom has a really lenient return policy so I thought about returning the bag. The bag cost over $1600 (including tax) and I was never going to use it. I took it over to the Flagship store (I live in Seattle) where I find out that on the receipt it actually says that the purchase is a CHANEL bag. (WTF?!) So I'm told I have to go to the Bellevue store- where I made the original purchase. I do and there I'm told the same thing- that because the purchase says its a CHANEL bag they won't take back my bag....

Of course the people there rolled their eyes when they saw that the receipt was from 2013- which I understand but anyone who sees that bag can tell that its never been used. No scuff marks, all the paper and everything that came with it is still there, the tags and everything, even the Nordstrom tag, everything is still with the bag.

Because on the receipt it says CHANEL they won't let me return the bag.

Which is infuriating because
The Bellevue Nordstrom doesn't carry Chanel in the first place, so I have no idea how the SA who rang up my bag got the register to say "Chanel". Its not my fault that the receipt says Chanel.

I've always read that Nordstrom has a very lenient, customer friendly return policy- but after this...I'm super annoyed.

Again- I get that its been over 3 years- but I've read and heard about people returning 10 year old items that have been obviously worn. My bag has (no joke) been sitting under my bed ever since I purchased it. The time it was out and about while it was going through the process of "being inspected" by the people of Nordstrom is the most its been out and about ever since I purchased it.

Am I in the wrong? Is there anything I can do aside from attempting to sell it online?

I've returned worn things - because the shoe was made faulty and leather ripped (after I exchanged the first one for a second one, I finally just returned the second pair after it ripped the same way) and Nordstrom was very gracious enough to take my return although I didn't have a receipt and they couldn't track my transaction. I didn't even know how good their return policy was! But I've always come across really great sales associates at Nordstrom who provide great service - which is why I choose to continue spending my money there

Maybe u should request to speak with a manager. Your receipt obviously says Bellevue so I don't know why they're making like you're crazy when they obviously don't sell Chanel. I'd try again! I'd probably try to return it too if I was in the same situation.

Right? Okay, good! Thanks!

I totally understand the whole "WTF why did you wait 3 years eye roll" but I have the receipt, the bag itself shows that its never been used, all the tags and everything- including the "Authentic Prada card" along with the Prada Card with the Nordstrom tag/sticker on it- EVERYTHING is still on it. All the tissue paper, the dust bag, everything.

I actually talked to the "manager" of Designer handbags at the time...so who should I speak to now?

I think it's a bit ridiculous that you are upset that the receipt and tags don't match. I mean if it was right after you bought it but asking them to see if they can roll back the security cameras from
3 years ago ?

It would look and sound shady to me as well.

Do the tags upc match the receipt or id everything off??

+1 on both points.
I think the time has passed to return this one ethically, regardless of the Nordstrom policy.
However, if you are set on returning it, then check the number on the receipt compared to the tag. If it is the same then that should solve the issue. If it is not the same then it is not the same bag.

Sorry, I meant to multi quote.

If this was any other store- so lets so Bloomingdales or Neiman Marcus or what not, I wouldnt mind. I know their return policy is not the same as Nordstrom.

From what I have gathered about Nordstrom's return policy...they are very understanding and lenient about returning items with people even returning items that have been worn and what not. Even from this forum I've read about people returning shoes that have been worn, jeans that have been washed, etc.

Which is the only reason why I thought about returning the item. I have an over $1600 bag thats brand new, never been used, sitting in my room and its from Nordstrom- from, again which I've heard has one of the more liberal return policy.

Which is why I tried.

Sephora has a similar policy and I've never had a problem when it came it to returning even products from several years ago. So I thought I would check and see.

Again if it was just that "too much time has past"- I understand, but the excuse that it says "Chanel" on the receipt and not Prada- thats not my fault at all. I'm not the one that rang up my purse so- for that I'm a bit ticked off. They don't even have anything thats from Chanel at that location.

Just wanted to see what other people thought. Especially as the only problem when it comes to the return seems to be that it says "Chanel" on the receipt and not Prada.

Thanks for your input!

Again- the reason I kept on hearing, I couldn't return it was that " It says Chanel on the receipt and not Prada"- granted I'm sure the time does have some influence on their decision.

I havent gone as far as to check the number on the receipt to the tag- but lol, if its not the bag then what bag did I buy then? Because thats the only receipt I have of my bag :(

Maybe you switched the receipts by accident and you have the Prada receipt somewhere else?

Does the upc tag match the numbers on the receipt? And what does the tag look like? WAs it a re ticketed tag or the original one? That might be an issue if the employee re ticketed the bag and used the wrong upc number.

I just checked and they completely match, as you can see on the picture. The tag is the original tag btw.

Now that I see that the tag matches the receipt its even more annoying.

Again I get thats its been over 3 years since I purchased the bag. But its extremely frustrating especially after hearing and reading about Nordstroms "amazing return policy".

And the reasoning I continuously get is that "It says Chanel, not Prada"- which again isn't something I have any control over, its the person who rang it up. And now that I know that the tag matches the receipt- I mean helloooo how can you deny that the item isn't that item? ugghhhh

Sephora- now they have an AMAZING return policy. Which makes me a loyal customer :)

The bag has stayed under my bed for the past 3 years and never been used- I have all the original tags, receipts, Authentication cards- everything.

I called the store and spoke with the MIC (whatever that means)- he's not the store manager- but he said that the store manager will give me a call when he's back in on Friday.
