Actually, the department stores (or any store) that sells items below 50% off are losing money. Saks must've been really desperate and had a large excess of inventory to pull the 70% off sale.

I got Nordstrom to price match a Gucci babouska guccissima red boston...it came out to $348 after 70% off :) She said I had to use my Nordstrom card and she shipped it out yesterday :) Last one left too!

I am sooo happy !!!!!!!

Oh..it was the Nordstrom in Canoga Park...Topanga...AND it wasn't in stock at Saks anymore!

i understand that we all want deals (am the same way), but my sister works at nordy and told me that it has been crazy there and people spent all of yesterday screaming at her on the phone. she said that certain nordy buyers are calling them stating the inventory is out of stock at saks at not to price match. i hope we can all get wonderful deals tomorrow, without treating people poorly. i am sure that you are all respectful i just felt the need to post as i know how i crazy i get when i feel am not getting a good deal.

:yes: Early this week, some of the Nordstrom buyers methodically went through to check what Saks has and clamped down on the SAs. It is not the SAs fault.

I think its great that they do the price match, but when they say they can't I have noticed some people get really angry. If the SA says they cannot, then they probably have been told not to- it's not like they have a great deal of power. I think the best thing to do is keep calling around to a few different stores and maybe you will find a manager SA or someone who can work with you. I would hate to have the policy end because people are abusing it.
Oh- and I'm always amazed when people want Nordstrom's to price match for items that the other stores don't even carry- example: let's say denim is on sale for 30% off at Saks but they doesn't actually carry the exact make/model you want, why should nordstrom's price match this? They can't be on sale at Saks if Saks doesn't even carry them. sorry, I just feel bad for the nordies people because they are in general so much nicer than all other SAs.

Nordstrom won't price match any item that's currently out of stock in Saks. Has anyone run into this problem or they are supposed to price match regardless of the availability?

I actually ran into the exact same thing today. The SA i talked to said that they would match if you provide them with the name of the SA at the other store who will confirm that they have the exact same item in stock. Essentially, they will only match if it means that you would shop with them rather than the other store, everything else being equal.

i got really lucky today at customer service. The manager at Tyson's Corner did a price match for me even though Saks has run out of that particular item. She was really nice and sweet so maybe you guys can try customer service if you need someone to price match.
