Waited in line for 5 hours. Was told we would not get in and can come tomorrow or Saturday. No they didn't give tickets to anyone already in line. I took the day off work, drove 3.5 hours (luckily no traffic) each way, and paid all those tolls just to leave empty handed. I knew this would be a possibility but my heart did sink when they casually shouted we're all not getting in. Others were way angrier because they constantly asked staff about the wait, and they'd reply with they don't know or it's hard to say...

So misleading and even as it became evening and the line wasn't moving, they still allowed people to line up. 1 staff member said some shoppers were inside for 3 hours! Seriously that's ridiculous and inconsiderate knowing others are waiting to get in. I understand that they don't want to rush shoppers but they really should have a time limit for groups and better line management.

So seriously don't waste your time unless you line up at dawn- you'll still have to wait hours to get in. With my spot, I might have gotten in in 2 days lol.

I feel so bad for you that you drove several hours and waited in line all day. That is ridiculous !! H should have a time limit for each customer so people need to be kicked out after 45 minutes. If you only have a quota of 5 scarves, how could you stay there for three hours !!

I visited the sale yesterday, Thursday October 22nd. There was an issue 3 people in front of me while on line. A woman and her mother bribing a couple to feign friendship in order to cut the line, at that point, because it affected me, I walked up to a company employee, who insisted they leave the line and they complied. All in all, my experience wasn't a bad one, with that said, I am a "time equals money" type of gal. The amount of time I spent on line for (I am embarrassed to say-5 hours, I got there at 6:30am and made my way into check-in at 11:30am) saved me $1,355.48.Yes, I did the math!!!

I was an 1.5 hrs late to work, but working in the 'industry' they all understood (another sad reality).

When I got upstairs, there was no chaos, everyone was quite pleasant. Things were buzzing by the scarves and jewelry, but I find that if you are a civilized person you will be treated accordingly. I greeted each SA with a smile and exchanged pleasantries and they personally took care of me as if I was inside an Hermes boutique. Which was nice considering how long I waited on line. It was a pleasant experience, not being rushed and making purchases you may soon later regret.
On the other hand, I knew what I wanted so I was out of the sale in 25 minutes or so. There was no need to belabor the process. I bee-lined to the bracelets first, where I met the most knowledgeable SA, Tina, an older woman who knew Hermes in and out. I told her what color I was looking for, I thought I wanted 3 thin enamel bracelets in the same colorway, different patterns and sure enough upon her suggestion 3 different width bracelets worked best on me. She was so good, other women, who she had assisted earlier, returned to ask her opinion on other items.

As Tina was walking out the door to have her lunch, I asked her if she thought I should get a Twilly to wear with a watch on a more casual day, she told me what she thought would be best for me, which was the 90cm Carre, classic print. I didn't disagree, I thanked her and made my way back to another pleasant SA in the scarf section. She willingly went through several trays and a box of scarves, searching according to my chosen colorway and together we found me the most beautiful 90cm carre, Les Laboratoire des Temps in the most beautiful sage/deep green and grey palette.

There was no line at check out, I paid and was out the door!! Again, I knew what I wanted and got what I came for. I do believe people should be able to browse and carefully shop as they choose and not be timed while shopping, that's such a crude way to spend your money.

The company facilitating the sale, Soiffer Haskin, I find at this sale and others that I have attended to be professional people.
However, for top sales, such as Hermes, they may want to devise a ticketing system to better facilitate such a crowd. This may be a lesson learned for them, we'll see what the future holds next year.

Thanks for sharing your experience here and I love your math !! Time is money and I don't know if my legs will give in after 2 hours staying in line. Glad that you scored something lovely and enjoyed the experience once you got in.

Thank you! There are already 100 people here. Lots of people waiting in cars, switching seats/spots taking turns walking around or to go smoke. Some of the people walking by (going to work) are glaring at us as if we are crazy :/ some stopping to say to people weren't you here yesterday? Did you spend the night? These people waiting for designer clothes are stupid. Seems there were hundreds of people who waited and did not gain entry. Hermes should give out numbers, after 1000 or even less don't allow them to wait around.

Funny you mentioned that people walking by noticed the same people in line !!:laugh:
how long did you wait ?

Good sale for me yesterday. I went at 10:30 and got in at noon. I went with a dear tPFer who helped with my scarf quota as he didn't buy any...:smooch:Anyway....I got mousselines..including a special beaded one, twills and some enanels. At these prices, it was hard not to buy more!

They were restocking and hope they continue to do so....I hope all who brave the lines are rewarded!!! Good luck!

Mousselines:

nice finds hopiko especially the mousselines.... I'm loving them more now as they just hang so well.

How long did you wait ? and did you get any VIP pass ?

yeah none of us in line could understand why anyone would spend 3 hours inside! I think the long queue was making it worse in the sense that people who wait in line for 5+ hours feel entitled to then take their time and linger. they want to justify their wait time by taking even longer shopping.

the line was worse than the infamous cronut line (and yes I've waited for that too lol). at least the cronut line is way better managed, and they certainly don't want people lining up just to be turned away.

This is going to sound a little mean but maybe if they banned cell phones altogether and eliminated the "phone a friend option" it might have taken people less time to shop. There was one year when all of the VIPs had to wait for a certain blogger to finish live tweeting from inside.

Tina is a Soiffer employee and I've had the pleasant experience of working with her before at H and non-H sales. She's helped me find some truly fantastic deals -- many of which I've shared here on tPF in various subforums. I'm so glad you had a good experience and shared it with us.
Tina is the best!!! When I know what I want I waste no time, and she cut that time in half...love her!

New Yorkers are accustomed to waiting in lines for the most asinine things...pretty much did this standing on my head. I am glad that I went, don't think I would do it again though. We'll see.

Ladies and Gents, the sale is fantastic!

By the time I entered the sale at a bit after 9, the line was already to 31st street. As has already been stated, it's longer now...

When I entered: Scarves galore. Bangles galore. I jumped into the scarves and found two large mousselines. No more large scarves like dip dyes (I saw one woman holding a few—I broke the commandment about coveting…). There were also a small number of sequined/embroidered pieces.

But then I discovered my holy grail: the 90cm tea-dyed scarf from several years ago. For $240. I nabbed it quick.

For quite some time, I just let myself go through the scarf selection carefully and repeatedly. There was a huge range of patterns and colors, though the colors did concentrate more on the yellows and greens and purples. A nice range of 90cm dip dyes. Here is a list of what I remember seeing (patterns only)—many in only a couple color ways and even just a couple pieces:

Le Robinson Chic, Trésors Retrouvés, Le Laboratoire du Temps, Casques et Plumets, Tigre du Bengale, Galop Chromatique, Les Cannes, Wa’Ko’Ni, Les Bolides, Tous les Bateaux du Monde, Pique Fleuris de Provence

I’m sure there were others, but I don’t know the names of the 90s very well….

The limit is 5 and I easily used up my quota.

By the time I left at 10AM, the scarf drawers were vastly diminished. When I arrived, they were overflowing down the length of the table… now it looked positively mediocre. I don’t know if they’ll replenish stock.

By the time I left, bangles were also vastly diminished, though there still seemed a lot.

There was no more silver.

There were a few (yellow mostly) smaller leather bracelets.

There were a few leather bangles.

There was gorgeous RTW and knits.

There were no housewares and no perfume. I’m sad about the latter. There were no watches. Bummer.

There were plenty of shoes. There were lots of heels and a few heeled high boots.

There were no belts.

There was a vast array of gorgeous ties for $75.

Here are the 5 scarves and 5 bangles I chose...
Gorgeous haul sweetie!

The limit is 3 bracelets (including jewelry) and 2 scarves. [emoji17]

The items you chose "must" be purchased in 1 hour or they are returned to the floor.

I didn't see many scarves. The enamels were plenty and there were a few leather bracelets.

The shoes, boots, ties a Rtw were in abundance.

Good luck ladies and gentlemen!

do you know if the shoes are good sizes?

I hope you got yourself some nice goodies! Please share!:smile1:

Aww thanks!

I was there for 3 1/2 hours and a few people were there from the day before that didn't get in. The construction and postal workers remembered them. They saw people in line while they were on their lunch break and again before they went home. Apparently the postal police were going to stop the entire operation because of the crowd and their trash yesterday.

Well, if you think about it, a ticket system is so NOT Hermes. :nogood:

Ha! Yes! Even the sh employees said its not their practice or style.
