Unreal. Back in the days when I didn't have an invite to the private day, there were 2-3 hour waits to get inside. Even so, it was fun. This? This doesn't look like fun. It looks like the very opposite of fun. Kudos to everyone's stamina and determination. I hope you score something amazing today.

Thank you! There are already 100 people here. Lots of people waiting in cars, switching seats/spots taking turns walking around or to go smoke. Some of the people walking by (going to work) are glaring at us as if we are crazy :/ some stopping to say to people weren't you here yesterday? Did you spend the night? These people waiting for designer clothes are stupid. Seems there were hundreds of people who waited and did not gain entry. Hermes should give out numbers, after 1000 or even less don't allow them to wait around.

Good sale for me yesterday. I went at 10:30 and got in at noon. I went with a dear tPFer who helped with my scarf quota as he didn't buy any...:smooch:Anyway....I got mousselines..including a special beaded one, twills and some enanels. At these prices, it was hard not to buy more!

They were restocking and hope they continue to do so....I hope all who brave the lines are rewarded!!! Good luck!

Mousselines:

Your finds are magnificent. How fortunate to have a friend to help with the quotas... There were so many beautiful scarves early in the selection.

Wow! I was thinking of dropping by for lunch but I guess not! This is crazy! Are these people tourists again?

Yes, lots of tourist and line holders. The venue employees started at 7am (non Hermes). They have already asked that people use the trash bags available, remain single file, don't allow people to cut the line, but many people don't understand what they are saying.

People are giving out business cards - professional line holders. I hope they open at 9.

hopiko, may I ask what is the design of the moussie on the far right of your picture--the ochre/mustardy color? Love that shade (and may try to find it at retail price!; I couldn't stomach the crowd scene this year). Thanks in advance for the info.
I add my congrats to those who endured and succeeded and my condolences to those who endured but were turned away. As far as I know, this is the first time such craziness has occurred at the Hermes sale, and I hope next time/next year Hermes and/or Soiffer Haskin changes their processes and policies to avoid this nonsense.

They are likely to get in right at 9. I overheard the organizers say that yesterday, the first set stampeded in...(the tone in the voice saying this was of disgust), so they might change how that first set is handled...
Ugh. There was a YSL sale a few years ago at the Metropolitan Paviiion where that happened. People got there at 5am because there was one group that got in first the day before and hoarded every handbag. The following day, people literally ran up four flights of stairs to be the first in so they could grab handbags. Is this what the H sale is turning into? I don't blame the Soiffer staff for being disgusted. They pride themselves on running orderly, organized sales. Yes, sometimes prices are higher at their venue but it also means no stampedes and they crack down on hoarders who linger but don't buy (they did this most recently at the Roger Vivier sale). I know many don't seem to like Soiffer but I appreciate that they do try to manage lines and are very serious about keeping the experience as pleasant as possible.

With that said, one of the staffers mentioned there is a Gucci sale coming up in the next couple of weeks.

I didn't think anything could be worse than standing in the cold rain for hours last year...but yesterday sounded worse! :nogood:

I've experienced that stampeding thing at MetPavilion. Awful. Since I was first in line for the particular sale, they let me actually enter first, but I would much rather avoid their venue when possible. SH is so orderly normally. I appreciate their handling, too...

Gucci? Hmmm. I've always loved them...

I've never been to a previous Soiffer Haskin sale, but after the H experience, I doubt I'd ever go. There was no line management besides asking people to clear the sidewalks. They didn't cutoff the line at any point, no updates on time estimates, nothing. I'm sure that job sucks, and I feel bad for the workers being shouted at by angry waiting shoppers. However, I also felt bad that older folks were standing in line, sitting on crates, and enduring the long wait if staff knew there was no chance we'd get in before 6 or 7. After a 'higher up' staff member told everyone we're not getting in, it was a mad dash of people trying to make their way in. Where was the line management staff then?! Never seen such an angry mob.

Professional line holder? Seriously? Ph.D.? I guess I shouldn't even make the effort to walk over for lunch. It's not worth the stress. Rather pay full price.

Waited in line for 5 hours. Was told we would not get in and can come tomorrow or Saturday. No they didn't give tickets to anyone already in line. I took the day off work, drove 3.5 hours (luckily no traffic) each way, and paid all those tolls just to leave empty handed. I knew this would be a possibility but my heart did sink when they casually shouted we're all not getting in. Others were way angrier because they constantly asked staff about the wait, and they'd reply with they don't know or it's hard to say...

So misleading and even as it became evening and the line wasn't moving, they still allowed people to line up. 1 staff member said some shoppers were inside for 3 hours! Seriously that's ridiculous and inconsiderate knowing others are waiting to get in. I understand that they don't want to rush shoppers but they really should have a time limit for groups and better line management.

So seriously don't waste your time unless you line up at dawn- you'll still have to wait hours to get in. With my spot, I might have gotten in in 2 days lol.

I'm really sorry to hear this. And I think a better organization in the store would really help a lot. It was a madhouse in there. Particularly at the enamel and scarf sections. It was really difficult to get in front of a mirror or get the help from the staff. There were a tons of people blocking the enamel counter. The staff kept asking those who're not being helped yet to back up so that who are being helped can be done soon, as it was very challenging to see anything with all those hands on the counter and all those discussions right at your ears. It just made the whole process way longer. And there were people that I first thought were the SAs because they would sit in front of the mirrors and laid out "many" scarves (more than in one tray on the table) and slowly sorted them out. But apparently they were customers. And when a group of people took a mirror, it got even worse. They just never wanted to leave. And it also made it a much longer process for anyone who wants to shop and go.

I'm sad to hear that some people spent a whole day on this and left empty-handed. I really wish they gave those who stood on line the whole day and weren't able to go in a ticket that they would have the priority the next day. And they really should've stopped people from lining up when they knew that it would be unlikely for them to ever get in.
