I consider my bags investments, and hope to get at least ten years out of each piece

I am sorry that you had so many issues back to back. Over ten years ago, I purchased a DE card holder and in between bought many wallets of other brands but my DE card holder held up the best and is the true workhorse. A month ago, the Empreinte Compact Curieus wallet caught my eye and I purchased one in noir. I find it worry free and the leather is soft and yet seem strong. The gold lettering is still intact and I am really enjoying it thus far. Now, I find myself wanting also the Empreinte Key Cles to house my cards and serve as a mini wallet. I also love the Speedy but beginning to read more about issues regarding the handles pulling the leather. I definitely agree with you that research is necessary before any purchase so that we can weigh the pros against the cons.

Damier ebene canvas is fantastic. I'm glad you have such a strong piece with your cardholder :). I have a monogram zippy from 2010 that is in mint condition and I've gotten the most use out of it, so I completely understand what you mean by these small leather goods being workhorses. I only use LV when it comes to SLGs. I own the noir curieuse and what I love about it is how soft it is. It's fantastic to the touch. My empreinte zippy wallets are fantastic in their own way with the organization, but of course, they don't have the flexibility the curieuse has. I'm glad your lettering is holding up so well. I've noticed the glazing is very strong as well. I wasn't sure how it would go having such wide sides with thick glazing, but I don't have a single dent or scratch with the glazing so far. The empreinte key pouch is a beauty but I was unlucky with getting one with good hardware. I tried a few times, and one of them was completely jagged. I'm pretty sure it was a return they sent me. I hope if you do purchase one you have better luck than I did. Yes, the old model empreinte speedys do have pulling of the leather where the straps are attached. It looks like a slight bubbling, but it's nothing too bad as long as you don't load your purse up to be too heavy. I pack my bags very lightly so it works very well for me. I don't have any true bubbling on mine because I'm easy on them. But I've seen some that were so loaded on a daily basis that it actually caused the leather from rivet to rivet and in between the handles, to droop and bubble, permanently. So it's definitely a bag that you can't be as hard on as a canvas speedy or such. I use mine only as handhelds to preserve their shape since empreinte leather is so soft. I love the old model speedys though because they have the monogram embossing on the sides as well, and no gold lettering on the front. The look is a lot better, in my opinion.

I only use LV when it comes to SLGs.

I think I must had been lucky to pick up a good one years ago. I use the card holder daily and only slide in one card into each slot. When purchasing the curieus wallet, the sweet SA asked to see the card holder when I commented how sturdy it was. She was quite amazed to see it in like new condition. Nonetheless, she pointed out a less than 1cm part where the glazing opened up a bit and suggested that I let her have it for repair. I must say she played a crucial role in my 'return' to LV as she emphasized on aftercare services and was very reassuring.

I do try not to load my bags too heavy as years of toting around lots of kiddy stuff is starting to create a toil on my shoulder. The Speedy is a style that I remained very much in love with after all these years but as much as I love the style, I guess I need to be practical too. My current lifestyle entails a lot of being outdoors and walking which meant the bag will be on me at most times. I had seen how roomy it is but because I am very tall, 5"10 and also I tend to stride when I walk, I wonder if the handle on one side will keep rubbing against my hip. I know from experience, with other brands that I do get a tad frustrated when this happens as it is not very comfortable. I also tend not to carry my bag by the hand as it is not practical for my current lifestyle.

That said, I am supposed to pick up my card holder this Friday and to try on the Speedy. I am keeping my expectations low as possibly, I think it might not work that well for me. But, I do really think it looks awesome on so many ladies and it truly is a beautiful bag.

And talking about SLGs, I am thinking of getting the mini pochette in DE too. It looks to be such a versatile piece.

I'd say you're lucky to have both the cardholder and that experience with the nice SA. It's always reassuring to know the fashion house cares about the customers shopping experience. As I'm sure you're aware, they're not all that nice. I completely understand your looking for practicality in a bag. I purchased the empreinte Saint Germain for this very reason. It's my current favorite hands-free bag and I have to say, now that I've gone empreinte hands-free, I do grab my empreinte speedys much less. And like you, I don't like the idea of handles rubbing on my hip. I own a DE canvas speedy bandoulier and I actually never use the crossbody strap because I find it digs into my shoulder a bit more than I like. It's a very lovely bag though. And the handle that hits my hip doesn't dig into my hip or anything, but it's not as easy-breezy/comfortable as my bags without it (especially for longer days out). And then the fact that the speedy is boxy and bulky kind of makes me prefer not to wear it crossbody as well, although I do like the spaciousness and canvas. I purchased the Saint germain because the chain is flat, lightweight and the most comfortable chain-purse I've ever used. Having no handles rubbing my hip is nice also to preserve the glazing on the handle. I hope when you pick up your cardholder you get to bring home another fun LV piece, whether it's the speedy or another great empreinte item :)

You'll love the DE mini pochette. I own the DE pochette and it's a fantastic piece, one of my most used items :)

You echoed my thoughts to a T! I had the same considerations as you with the Speedy. My height and masculine build (I used to swim a lot so I have a wide body with square shoulders) does not quite allow for a boxy bag as I found it seems to add width to my already wide body. In addition, if the bag is on me, I imagine it might be challenging to open the bag with one hand to get say, my wallet out. Strap comfort is also of key importance for me as I am developing shoulder problems from carrying too much so I really need to downsize.

I do have a backup plan though; the Empreinte twinset or twice crossbody bag. I am mostly in casual wear, jeans/jogger pants/shorts (I reside in a year round hot and humid country) thus I thought should the Speedy not work, this bag seems to meet my requirements in terms of no handles, ample space, looks good as a casual bag and can be dressed up by looping the handle under the bag or as a clutch.

I missed out the Saint Germain in my research. I just had a look at it after you mentioned it. It is beautiful and I like how the chain dresses up the bag and offers alternatives in wearing it. I have a soft spot for chain bags as I find them so elegant and chic, but I wonder whether it will look too dressy for my casual attire. No harm trying it on this Friday too, right? [emoji6]

Along with the DE mini pochette, I am also really liking the Empreinte key cles. I saw it in Earth during my last visit and can't seem to get it out of my mind. The new color Raisin seems very pretty too but I will have liked it more if it had more purple tones.

Meeting my SA is really icing on the pie. She is the sweetest, allowing me time to look at different pieces, showing me alternatives, sharing cons of seasonal pieces in terms of paint chipping off. She actually suggested that I go for classic DE instead of the LE mini pochette launching in Sept as she did not want me to go through the hassle of repainting every now and then.

How absolutely frustrating that the rivets are off. For me, the gold lettering being so prone to cracking over time is a deal breaker. I've wanted this bag in this color for years, but I only invest in luxury goods that I know will look great long term. I don't mind the inevitable cracking of the lettering inside of the wallets because that is on the inside and doesn't bother me. But on the outside of the bag is too much of a disappointment for me. Even if I were to hunt a seemingly perfect-printed one down, the softening of the leather over time will start to show the natural hairline creasing of the naturally aging leather (inevitable to crack/chip the gold). And it's the focal point of the front of the bag so it will be noticeable. I do believe avoiding rubbing the lettering will, of course, help some but just like in the wallets (where nothing truly rubs up against the lettering) it's bound to crack somewhat, eventually, no matter how we baby the bag. I own two empreinte speedys and two empreinte Saint Germains and the smooth leather on the Saint germain has fine creases in it, on the front of the bag, which are natural, from wearing it. So being familiar with how the leather feels, looks, and ages, I am going to pass on the new model speedy. I adore the new color Noir and the look, but I don't want to one day look down at my bag and see "Ouis Vuitton" or "Louis Vuitto". I'm going to just enjoy my old empreinte speedys and empreinte Saint germains.

I just don't understand who comes up with these ideas.... I know they want to make the bag light weight but to use gold lettering on the outside (and not even center it on some purses) which is a focal point is just stupid because it will most definitely rub/chip off. It's just going to age and devalue the bag as it fades and they are asking for trouble by doing this as LV will be getting lots of returns or exchanges over this. They could have just embossed it instead- or done without it. I totally agree with everything u said. When the lettering starts to rub off who wants to see "ouis Vuitton" (this made me lol). This type of stamping is better suited for the inside of the purse. I won't be buying for this and the reason that they didn't make the straps come in 2 pieces like the original. It's a pity as I really wanted an empriente speedy in noir.

Yes exactly, the boxy shape of the speedy sort of makes the bag only truly optimal for handheld use. I find with my canvas and empreinte speedys they are almost like toting around luggage if worn crossbody. They're very similar to carrying a weekender bag, but as a purse, which I don't really find to be ideal. Then, when you do carry them crossbody they of course slouch and it turns the once wide-base into a bottomless pit. So like you mentioned, when you stick your hand inside to retrieve your wallet or such, you have to do a little digging. It definitely takes two hands. Now handheld, I love the speedy for the wide bottom and also the classic shape. Crossbody, not so much, although I appreciate LV for trying to bring us convenience with the strap. The damier ebene strap is much less comfortable than the monogram canvas/vachetta strap. And the old model empreinte speedy has some glazing issues on their strap and handles because the old glazing is like butter. It has a much more glossy look and feel to it than LVs new glazing (the same glazing found on the empreinte curieuse). The old glazing is prone to cracking and also gets little dents in it very easily. I don't use my crossbody strap, but I have had no issues so far with my empreinte glazing on the handles- I do have to be extra careful not to hit my keys or ring on the glazing though. The new model speedy strap has only two pieces which kind of takes away the over-one-shoulder feature the old model had. But overall, the speedy looks and functions best handheld, in my opinion.
I was looking at the twice last month, considering buying one for my mom. I was thinking of the blue color (I think it's called denim) for her since that's her favorite color. I have yet to purchase a button-snap purse just because when you pull it open so many times, I do wonder if it will bubble the empreinte around the button evenutally (just as the leather on the empreinte speedys bubble up by the handles). I love all things zip-shut, and now that I'm getting familiar with their S-Locks (on the empreinte saint germain and such) I also love those. I think my favorite thing about the twinset is the middle portion that you can just drop your phone down in knowing it's safe there- such a convenience, but if the front and back pockets have stuff in them I wonder if that middle pocket would actually be of any use since the bulging of the front and back portions will pretty much defeat the purpose of the middle portion. The simplicity of this bag is what catches my eye, especially for my mom, I want to get it for her to be used as her everyday bag and I feel this bag has that look to it. It's understated with the smooth leather flap. I have a feeling this bag would be perfect for you . There's no weight to the strap since there's not all the fancy hardware like on the old model speedy and such. I hope this bag works out for you when you try it on . Also, definitely try on the saint germain. The S-lock snaps shut best when the bag has stuff in it because there's some "backing" to push the front tab into (for it to lock into place and snap shut). And of course, the S-lock is very prone to scratching from opening/closing it frequently, but it's so shiny that you don't see those hairline scratches unless you're up close staring at it. The empreinte key pouch in terre is gorgeous! I know you'll love it. My empreinte speedy is the color terre and I love it. I really like the chain detail on this key pouch as well (although I haven't had any luck getting this cles because they kept coming to me very flawed/scratched). Your SA sounds so lovely with how much she helps you! That's amazing. And I second her advice on going for the DE because it'll last you a good decade for sure . It can't get dirty, it's pretty indestructible, I'd say. And it's great to pull out of your bag and use as a wristlet as well, especially since the DE matches every outfit whether casual or evening wear. Enjoy all your new goodies you pick up

Yes I agree, they are definitely going to get lots of upset customers regarding this issue. This bag is pretty much the saint laurent bag in every little detail, so I can see why they did the gold lettering, and I think gold is a nice touch, but not if it's going to come off and leave us with our Ouis'. I agree 100%, they should have embossed it- it would have been the perfect bag then. They used to emboss "Louis Vuitton" into the old model speedys key clochette and that looks amazing. It's unfortunate because this was the bag I was dreaming of before it even existed. Maybe they'll do another "revamping" of the bag and fix it. I, like you, will not be buying this version either.

I've decided to get the Bagatelle instead, and I'm really excited and think I will like it better than the speedy!

Enjoy all your new goodies you pick up [emoji2]

The more I discuss the Speedy with you, the more I know this bag is not meant to be. The handheld look was what attracted me to the bag years ago but sadly, it is also look that is not practical for me. My country is small and public transport is the best way to get around. I can imagine myself fumbling with it if I use it handheld, whilst trying to keep an eye on the little one. My cousin had the glazing issues with the older Empreinte Speedy, hers was in Infini. She managed to exchange it for another flat crosssbody chain bag with a chain.

I think the Twinset will work for me or rather I will like it very much to work. I plan to bring the things I intend to load it with me and then try it on with all my essentials within. I did rehome a Celine large Trio as it bulked out and I know the strap is not strong enough in the long run. After scouring the entire Twinset Clubhouse thread and various YouTube videos, it seems this bag had no such issues. I am keen to see how the S lock on the Saint Germain works and also, to try it on.

Very grateful for your valuable insight. It definitely helps to discuss these concerns with a mutual bag lover. Thank you. [emoji1] I hope the Key Cles in Earth is still available. It will be nice to see black and brown goodies in my bag everyday.
