i think this "tactic" can work depending on what kind of guy your DH/DF/DBF is... is he a "smooth talker"? is he comfortable shopping at stores like Hermes or is he like a fish out of water? not all men are the same, so i think it CAN work, or like luvbolide has pointed out, it MAY NOT work either (granted that the store HAS a B or K in the back to offer)
he is kind of a smooth talker, he is familiar with hermes and wear designer clothes/watches. i'm just not sure what to have him say lol. it can't hurt to try.

The general rule at H boutiques in the U.S. are no B, K, or C to walk-in customers. Of course this rule may change if the individual spends a large sum amount on RTW, fine jewerly, or home items.
well then i'm out of luck. i'm not willing to spend on stuff i don't want. i've tried buying stuff i only kind of want only to be told i need to spend even more.

To be honest, I don't think it's possible at these 3 locations if you only want b/k. These locations don't even have enough for their own local regular customers. but doesnt hurt to try. good luck!
that sucks. i thought there might be a chance at vegas since they're more tourist oriented (someone had also suggested vegas). i also read that someone got a bag as a walk in at vegas when their dh asked. technically i wouldn't mind a CDC or KDT (i like the scarves too but don't use them so i can't buy them) but have not much interest in rtw, home goods, or fine jewelry.

oh well i guess i'll try but probably have no luck. i guess those who don't have a store close to develop a relationship and who don't want to spend on stuff they don't want don't deserve the bags:shucks:

I know we never use this term. But in my fiancee sneaker world. People whom only want the HOT hard to find items are called Hypebeasts... ;).. I just think its funny

I can only say it again: there is no rule to Hermes, not even in the US. I was a walk-in, didn't spend a dime on anything other than my Birkin in one of the stores which is known as hardest for a walk-in to get a B/K and rude in general. But I had to go in 3 times and made sure the SAs I talked to realized I like Hermes in general and wasn't only a B hunter

Don't be discouraged by any stories, just be yourself and try your luck

This. Never say never with Hermes. Enthusiasm, manners, and luck all play a role. Bon chance!

i just happen to like those items, not because they're popular...oh well.

can't hurt! he could say that it's a special occasion (birthday, anniversary, etc) and he really wants to get you something special on your wishlist... you never know!

CBC is right. It depends on the time, the location, the SA, but imo, mostly YOU, the buyer of the bag. Money does matter, but attitude and love of Hermes matters more. Lofty but true imo-- Hermes wants its pieces in the hands and on the arms of people who appreciate this incredible luxury house. To want a Birkin because it is the "bag to have" is not going to score you a birkin. To value, and love, and render you speechless with its beauty and workmanship---to show a loyalty and admiration of the brand is what matters. If this sounds absurd, maybe Hermes isn't the right fit. My darling jewelry SA in Neiman Marcus laughs at me and calls me a patsy and dumb because I align myself to this crazy paradigm of retail. Just my thoughts.... The right attitude will work to get a Birkin/Kelly as a walk in client. It can happen.

Yes Mindi: Enthusiam, luck and manners too!! Succinct and spot on!

Can't agree more on this. Let the SA knows your passion on Hermes is very important. That's how I score my K in FSH 2 weeks ago.

Yes, it can happen to walk-ins.

My mom & aunt just told me they went to the FSH store just yesterday and both of them got Kellys, during different times of the day though. They both came in the morning, and only one of them got offered a Kelly. Later in the afternoon they just happened to be in the area again and went in again and got another Kelly. Repeated visits won't hurt :)

It really depends on how you talk you the SA. I saw scene like this twice in my home store: a lady came and ask straight for a birkin, not rude but definitely not in a soft way. The SA told them right away there is no stock and there is a minimum 2 year waiting list.

I didn't have luck buying birkin or kelly as walk-in at all, every b or k I got was after I spent some money on other products, sometimes a wallet and sometimes tons of accessories. But from what I heard, it's easier to get a bag as walk-in if you show your knowledge and passion, for example, instead of just asking for a birkin, be specific about color and leather, say some words that only a Hermes lover would know.

You mean words like, "The whole wait list thing is a complete sham, and you're using the bags as hostages to get me to bleed money here?"
