Congrats, sumsbank! I guess it's really easier as a man to get a B or K anywhere in the world![]()
Yes, I think so. I've had several friends whose significant others have been granted Bs their first time in the store recently! Granted, I'm sure they knew who their girlfriend/wife was, but I don't know that for sure. No purchase history, no establishing a relationship w/an SA, no nothing! I'm going to send DH into a couple stores I don't normally shop at and see what happens!![]()
I was in New York (from Hong Kong) for a business trip and decided to pop into the Madison store and try my luck for my girlfriend. Went on Friday afternoon (the 21st), my first time ever to the store, in really casual clothes and just asked the first SA I saw if there were any Kellys. Didn't have any sort of expectation of course.. was almost like, I don't even care if you think I'm a total joke. The SA was friendly and nice, asked me what size I was looking for, to which I replied "28 or 32, preferably box leather (instructions from my gf). At this point I thought she must've been like, yeah, whatever, in your dreams. She went in the back to check for me, and a couple of minutes later comes out with the good news that they did have one (not box) and asks me if I wanted to see it. So I'm taken to the small room where she unboxes a 32 togo Kelly in bleu obscur. I'm like, this is awesome but can I go up and make a phone call to my gf? And she was very patient and said she'd put it behind te counter for 5 min.
So I went outside and got on the phone for quite awhile, and was instructed to not buy the Kelly, but just get the orange Jige PM that I also saw on display. So I went back to the SA and told her I didn't want the Kelly, paid for the Jige, and left... Only to receive an urgent phone call from my gf, who probably realized she was being an idiot pissing on my good luck, instructing me to go back and get the Kelly... I rushed back, smiled at the SA and waited for 5 mins as she helped some other customers, and told her I was back for it. She was still really patient and basically looked at me as if to say, you have no clue how lucky you are that it's still here. Bottom line - sometimes it takes some dumb luck I guess!

so almost a year of searching for another B and going to about 10 stores (i don't live near one so I can't make a relationship) and still no luck. anyone want to guess which stores in the US are most likely to sell Bs to walk ins (without buying a bunch of other stuff)?
I got mine from Madison Ave (didn't buy anything else and was there 3 times talking to a couple of nice SAs, also stating that I'm a tourist visiting a relative in NY). However, from what I've read Madison is not exactly a good place for walk ins to get a B...
Sadly I pretty much got laughed at when asking at Madison.
I think at Madison it all depends on who are you working with.
Last time, I went there to look for a SA called "Bukky". I have never met her so I didnt know what she looked like. When I went down to bag section, I saw an rather older SA and I asked her :"Hi, I'm looking Bukky." And because my pronounciation is not clear, she heard "birkin" instead of "Bukky". She immediately said :"write down your name for me, I'll check in the back to see what do we have."
I have never met this SA and the first sentence I said to her (at least in her perspective) was to ask for a birkin. And according to my experience, when an SA is willing to take your name, she will have something in the back that she is willing to sell.
So a good SA is all you need to score your dream bag at Madison, it's such a large store and it's very rare that they "don't have it".
I think Madison is really hit or miss. It depends who you get... I seem to find the younger SAs are more dismissive... :/
I have had the exact opposite experience, so it goes to show you....it's serendipity!
