That is really disappointing to hear if it is true and definitely a cost-cutting move.

Can anyone who owns both pieces and has a scale at home please confirm? :graucho:

Thanks in advance!
I have older Alhambra pieces and newer ones. There is def less gold now. The chain is smaller too. I think it has been noted in this forum years ago they cut gold down in newer pieces. Tiffany has done this as well. Sad.

I have old Tiffany Schlumberger rings and I remember the first time I saw the modern ones at the store. I think I even posted pics in one of the topics - the new rings visibly lost a lot of weight while the old ones were chunky, fat and heavy. The new rings were slimmer and so noticeably lighter that I was really puzzled about what was going on. I asked the SA why it is like this, and I remember he said something like "oh it is just more comfortable this way". Yeah, sure. Thank you very much, I'll stick to my old vintage chunky "uncomfortable" rings.

I also remember my VCA SA saying the backings on the stud earrings will become smaller and lighter. I was quite pissed as certain models of studs like perlee ones really do not support the weight of the earring itself and slant forwards. I am really upset with this tendency to cheapen everything and compromise the quality to save a few pennies while the price is constantly going up.

Prices of basic Alhambra bracelets are now very close to Cartier small love bracelets which are solid gold pieces and can be worn indefinitely without worrying about showering with them or whatever. Plus Cartier offers immaculate packaging and service, at least in my part of the world. I love VCA but this new horrendous packaging is just another nail in the coffin for me. I am kinda happy I have a basic collection already otherwise it would be quite doubtful whether I even want to have a MOP bracelet or not at this price.

This is the corporate greed. It is never enough for them. Cutting corners on the package, on the materials. Charging fees for repairs even it is their fault. Make you beg for something so little, after you pay so much. They are the new Scrooge. I am done with them!

the new packaging is terrible. i know some ppl don't use the box and say it's the jewelry that matters, but if ppl like this just accept it, can you imagine in a few years, they'll "redesign their packaging again" and won't even include the white box or ribbon and just give you the pouch and say "here you go - it's due to eco-friendliness" SMH don't FALL FOR IT. they want you to think that !!

that's why luxury is going down !! don't become complacent and accept this :oh:

Agreed. They can make the eco-friendly packaging to be an option, but that shouldn’t be a default. Personally I wouldn't want to keep any more of the gray felt boxes that come with each purchase and may opt for the eco-friendly packaging, they’re heavy, take up space, and attract dust. With that said, for people who are purchasing their 1st VCA jewelry, they deserve the full experience, which include the original packaging and not just a flimsy box and a pouch.

VCA won’t offer any options - because there is a high chance that customers will want the “full” experience. Now, if we want a proper box, I guess we need to buy those “lookalike” boxes outside VCA. It is a hassle of course.

I do wonder … once we start buying those “lookalike” boxes, how many of us will end up buying VCA lookalikes or not buying VCA at all.:confused1:

I definitely won’t be buying “look a-like “ anything especially a fake VCA piece. I think now many will turn to purchasing various jewelry storage trays. I wanted to get some Wolf trays anyway so in future if my beloved rolls aren’t available then I’ll make a buy.

I finally ventured into the Wolf trays, and I am liking them so far! They are extremely weighty and actually display pieces well. I chose options with a glass window on top so I can see what I have (otherwise I have no idea), but of course the opaque cases are more discrete for security purposes.

I am going to look at the combinations now. I like idea of seeing everything without opening each box
