Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; if you just want to scream money then get a LV, Dior, or Fendi. Most bags by those designers are very recognizable.

At the same time, there are many gorgeous, classy, bags to choose from. It depends on your personality and what makes sense for you to carry. A Fendi Spy on my Aunt would look cheap because she looks cheap - just remember that, a bag should be a compliment to you; not speak for you when you enter the room.

Well put Loganz! ITA. Well to do people with class never seem to wear/ advertise their money. It is the subtlety in the way they dress, the cut of their suits/jackets/slacks or the quality of the fabric that often belies their wealth.

Who are you buying the bag for? Is it for your enjoyment or for strangers'? The bag is worth its price only if you enjoy it and love it. Impress yourself first before worrying about other people.

... exactly! I agree 110%. Choose the bag for you, not for others. That is the important thing. :amuse:

I think this whole thread smacks of market research -- not shopping advice. How 'new' to the whole concept of designer purses can you be if you have been selling them on line for 6 years!

We're not adverse to giving you opinions about the market but come clean....

Agreed! If by now you don't know what style bag you like or which designer its time to sit back do some serious shopping and find a S/A who can assist you in choosing a "well made" bag! Even my 19 year old doesn't have this much trouble!

We are going to give the person the benefit of the doubt and leave this alone so far- but we are watching. I did remove the other bags being sold because as much as said that it is not an advertisement, it was. We don't promote that.

I'm just being honest. I am sure that I would be very impressed by beautiful craftsmanship in any form. However the fact that any designer can charge so much money for essentially a small bundle of cow leather is beyond me. I am sure there is a mark up due to the personal labor involved in some bags, however there was a time when everything was handcrafted. Before the conveyor belt. And no-one then expected to pay that much money for it because someone touched it with their two hands. So basically we are paying for the name, the designer, the label. Do I wear a label for my own sake? Maybe it does make me feel good, however, if I was in an arid desert with no humans for 3,000 miles in every direction would I still care as much whether it is Fendi or Gucci? No. I wouldn't. I am not ashamed to admit I am affected by my culture. That what "the tribe" thinks and feels is inevitably part of my life. My choices, subconciously or conciously are dictated by it. Did you wake up one morning and think, I want a Paddigton or a Balenciaga motercycle bag? No, someone had one, they were happy, you wanted to be happy in the same way. Bags, at least as I see it, are AT LEAST %50 status symbol and 50% art. The truth is they are probably more of the former.

So do I want a bag that gives me appropriate attention when I walk into Saks? Yes! Do I want a bag that matches with my outfits, sure, but I could also go to Morocco and buy a plain leather satchel from a leather dying shop -- also hand made etc.

At least, I say this, at least: I don't want anything in canvas with little LVs or GGs or CCs etc. That is my grand stand for ART over status. I must have leather or a fine skin, and it must be by all definitions: beautiful. That is my stand for art.

I don't appreciate these accusations. I have been an ebay member for 6 years. That means, since I was 20 years old I was buying old coats and banana republic sweaters on ebay, and perhaps selling an odd thing or two. I have been selling bags online since Dec. 05. I just graduated from UCLA, major in English, which is why I may sound curious about the "mental" side of buying handbags ...i.e. like a researcher. The bag selling thing I thought might be a good idea so I could work at home for the timebeing until I get my ideas about what I want to do settled. However, it is not working. Either my bags are overpriced or just not what people want, but they are not biting at my bag-bait, so the poor lovely bags will have to go back where they came from pretty soon. Unless a turnaround happens during Valentine's.

A 19 year old? I never new any 19 year olds who carried any designer bags. If you don't have a hard time spending $920 on one item of clothing, I am sorry, I can't follow you. It is hard for me because I am new to understanding what people are carrying, what is cool and what isn't, who the designers are, and what is a wise choice vs. a dumb one. I am young. 26. I spent the majority of my life until last year Sept. not even knowing what Coach was. Then I was enlightened...Coach, 7 jeans, etc. It went from there. Now I know a lot of the designers, and a lot of the current clothes. However buying something so expensive, and having it come from my boyfriend, I want it to be something special, something I will really wear.

I trust you all as experts, because obviously you have been discussing this stuff for longer than I have. I don't think I should rush into anything. Some people spend longer deciding smaller things. And you don't need to post here, if you don't like to.

I do appreciate all the help and feedback. I would like to keep the mood of this posting upbeat and positive, ok?

It is true that I posted one post in the "where can I find stuff" section about my ebay sales. I apologize I did not know that was wrong. I thought I read that it is not allowed to plug inauthentic stuff, and mine is not that. This post about my handbag is not an attempt to sell it.

I understand that if people could advertize here, than suddenly one would be overwhelmed with advertizements.

Believe it or not this is my first experience in any "blog". I have never before posted things and recieved responses from stangers. It is pretty neat.

I apologize to anyone I offended by mentioning that I sell on ebay. Can you blame someone for at a boat rally, mentioning that they sell boats? Or at a flag convention, mentioning that they have some great flags for sale? Kind of tempting, huh? Well, I apologize, and unless someone asks me I won't mention it again.

Best.

And another thing, isn't the purpose of this forum to ask questions and see what other people think before you go shopping? Isn't the purpose of visiting this web site to see what bags are out there and disucss them? If you are saying that I shouldn't have any more people post here, that I have enough information, then that is up to them, and eventually, when people don't want to post their thoughts they will stop. I, untill then, will be checking to see what people are saying about the Gucci bag. I am surprised by how many people think I should trade it in. However the people that say that don't really explain why.

I would be interested to know why, and also interested to know if anyone out there does like it and would keep it.

Please try to post postive, happy responses to this topic, or none at all. I am not here to stir up an negative reactions. There is no point to that. We are after all, giving opinions about a handbag and not the war.

I see what you were saying here, based on what I wrote earlier, however I don't know what I love. A little over a year ago I was (gulp) carrying Nine West bags! I am learning!

I think what I want to say when I enter the room is

Audrey Hepburn, Gracy Kelly, Jackie-O elegance.
My clothes already reflect that.

If I could I would probably get a birkin in a fine skin, that would cover the elegance, beauty and status goals nicely, however I am not about spend that kind of money.

I have been thinking about whether it is better to get a bag made of a fine skin like eel, croc or python vs. something more trendy like the Spy bag. I like sleek, almost old-fashioned shapes. But I would also like, ideally, something I could put a cardigan into if I was warm, so I would not need to carry it. I like anything with beautiful details, like leather interiors, or details in the leather (if it is leather). I originally liked the BB Bag I have now because the leather is made more interesting due to the texture of the horsebit pattern vs. just plain smooth leather. The color adds an accent color to an outfit, and makes the bag more visible, as does the bamboo and gold. However I wonder if the color and the bamboo also makes it tacky, in that like some have said, it is not understated enough. I don't want to appear as if I am purposefully drawing attention like "hey here is a gucci".
