For me the color is ok along with the style. The bamboo isn't something I am in love with and I think it makes the bag limited in its use. When I invest in a bag I want to make sure I can dress it up and down to get more use out of it. The black bag above can be worn dressed up or down and won't sit much in the closet. Let us know what you end up doing.

That was really sweet of your boyfriend! I would definately exchange it for one that is in perfect condition! I would probably keep the same bag that bf gave me unless I really didn't like the style. If you like it that is all that matters, don't worry if someone else doesnt like the bag, besides you will always think about how thoughtful your bf is when you carry it.

Personally I like the bag you got from your boyfriend. I tried that bag on in the store and I really liked it- the look of the bag is unique. The other Gucci bag that I fell in love with recently is the Gucci Medium Shoulder Bag. I saw the bag in the color pictured (cognac), black, and a white color. Actually though, the bag I saw was $1995 (probably bigger size), but it looks like this bag and this bag is in a similar price range of the bag you got.

I like this bag that Megs posted much better! I guess it's more so the style of the one you have. I know you like the lady-like look but I feel like it's too conservative. Like you could only wear it with formal clothes. The one Megs posted is a nice balance, you can wear it with anything. It can be casual and formal. And for the price of the bag, you'd want to be able to wear it with almost anything.

Your auction doesn't seem to mention the damage to the bag that is making you sell it....I'd fix that if I were you....

Well, you see, if I end up selling the bag all I have to do is exchange the Gucci with the damage for the Gucci without any damage, brand NEW and perfect, and send that one to the happy customer. Problem solved.

Thank you so much everyone who posted so far, I love every response, it gets me that much closer to figuring this thing out. I am curious, is Gucci even that cool right now, or is Fendi and Dior more IT... etc. Does anyone out there hate the horsebit pattern or the bamboo? I am new to understanding... Keep posting! I read them all! Soon I am thinking about posting a pic of me in my typical get-up with the bag. I may cut off my head as to avoid posting my face all over the net. Best, TheArtofAcquisition

It seems like the IT bags right now are Fendi Spy, Chloe Paddingtons, and Balenciaga motorcycle bags. I'm hearing a lot of talk about Dior's Gaucho bag and I kinda like it too. The motorcycle bags have been going strong for several years however..

I personally am not a fan of the Fendi B-Bag. The giant buckles are a bit gimmicky...

I want a bag that when people see it they know it is expensive, they recognize it, think it is beautiful and a bag that fits my size and dress, matching with as many things as possible, but still adding an "accent" to my outfit. I think I am more of a classic dresser, with skirts and blouses, etc, so I am not sure that a slouchy bag like the Paddington or Balenciaga motercycle, maybe even the spy would match with that. I want a bag that even a non-bag lover would say, "Hey, that's really beautifully made." I don't know if a non-bag fan would say that about the Paddington or Balenciaga (even though I have never seen either of those in person). Thanks for your responses...awaiting more...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; if you just want to scream money then get a LV, Dior, or Fendi. Most bags by those designers are very recognizable.

At the same time, there are many gorgeous, classy, bags to choose from. It depends on your personality and what makes sense for you to carry. A Fendi Spy on my Aunt would look cheap because she looks cheap - just remember that, a bag should be a compliment to you; not speak for you when you enter the room.

Personally, I LOVE Gucci purses--not everything's a "winner" since Tom Ford left, but I still love a number of their purses. I'd return the bag you have for either a Gucci store credit to use towards something else or do a straight exchange.

I have one of the chocolate brown Guccissima purses--it's the large top handle bag. I always get compliments on it and I'm really happy with my decision. I was looking for something that I could use for years.

If you're looking for a classic purse--I'd suggest going with a "classic" shape like a hobo, a tote, or a satchel. That helps with the purse's longevity. I'd keep the "fussy" details to a minimum since it can sorta date the purse as time goes on. Another thing to weigh is if you're a shoulder purse person or a hand/arm purse person. It can get old to hold your purse in your hand all the time if you're really into having your hands free.

I think this is a beautiful purse--either in the blue or chocolate--depends on your general wardrobe shade... It's got a great shape and you'll still use it when you're "older." And it's not trendy.

Hope the advice helps--happy shopping!

Firstly, thank you for your help. So I take it that you think that the bamboo circles are "fussy" details? Or that perhaps the color dates the purse? I would be interested to know why you don't like the red BB Hobo. It would help me understand what to avoid. I would also be interested to know if you can hold your large top handle on your shoulder.

I see however that the BB shape is in the "classics" section of the Gucci website.

The style you showed as a link is nice, however I have a bias against that style because when I was in Rome last summer it was that type of Gucci they were selling on the streets...all fakes...and so many people were buying them. I told myself I would buy something that is not copied as much... anyway, my head hurts from this problem. I wish to God I just knew what I wanted. I wish I could wake up tomorrow and say, "Yes, I'll get the credit but then I'll buy a Fendi, or a eelskin bag or another Gucci." Honestly, my dream is not to have just an ordinary designer bag, but a really rocking one that people admire.

I am putting in a pic of another two bags that are sale bags from last fall, that I could hunt for if they are still out and about.
