Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

Okay, now my wallet trembles. Like Lanit, I have a petit h necklace—mine a mix of the Toucan porcelain, silver hardware and black vache cord. This was years ago when the petit h collection was at Sevres for only the month of December. There was the fluted crystal necklaces and I found them beautiful also. I must try it again. Indeed, it's the petit h collection of jewelry that I'm most interested in seeing when in Paris.

Thank you, both of you, PbP and MYH, for discussing the petit h selection in such detail. I'm in love with your two silk cord bracelets, PbP—because as you might know, I have both of these Mythiques Phoenix scarves (and pareos). I would be delighted if I could somehow be your twin with both. I see the first stop I should make when I land in Paris tomorrow is the Sevres boutique. Ah... that will make a lovely afternoon walk from the Marais.

Arabesques, you have the most wonderful collection of jewelry from H, and you wear it so well! I hope you have an unforgettable (and productive) experience in Paris! Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back. Safe travels!

OK, we're in the home stretch folks with posts about this Paris trip. I hope you have all enjoyed living vicariously through PbP and me. I don't think I'm going to bore everyone with the shoes and other little things I bought that were non-H so I'm going to skip right to the end....you guessed it....Duty Free at CDG.

After I got through security, I was itching to get to the duty free store in my terminal. There is something that clicks inside of me when I am leaving a country with good H prices. I turn into an non-sensical, non-logical, H hungry crazy person.

But sadly the inventory at the duty free store did not allow me to do that. I only walked away with two items. :no-good:

First on my hit list was clic clacs. I will confess. I'm a bit of a clic clac collector but I really try to keep my obsession in check. It's gotta match with my existing bags and scarves and I have to love the color. I will confess, I was pretty much willing to buy any color that was in my size at the duty free store but I only found one! I'm not even sure what the official color name is but I knew it would match my malachite kelly so I snatched it up. Originally, I had really wanted the gold H and not the white H but hey, when there are slim pickings, you get what you can. :giggles:

Here it is with my malachite kelly and my Rose de Compass scarf. It's kind of camouflaged so I hope you can see it.

Next up was scarves. I asked to see all formats but didn't see any that I had to take home with me. So even though I don't need any more 90cms, I decided to look very very carefully in the display case. I've always had a fondness for Collection Imperiales but I did not see a cw I wanted on display. The SA helping me said he had many more colors in the drawers so I said, please! take them out. I was immediately drawn to this one but the SA helping me said the purple cw looked better on me. I decided to ignore him and get this one anyways. LOL! I knew it would match my colvert picotin so I picked it up as well.

I also asked for a colvert calvi for my sis but no luck. I was seriously tempted by some gold farandole dangly earrings but I knew that would be repetitive with my VCA byzantine dangly earrings. I do try to keep my fine jewelry collection pretty streamlined. I asked for a picotin mm but they only had blue glacier and that's way to light for me. I'm not really a pastel person. And I can't believe I forgot to ask about twillies! I didn't buy one twilly while I was in Paris. A tragedy in my opinion. So with about 30 minutes to go before my plane took off, I rushed over to my gate and waved goodbye to Paris.:hbeat:

Beautiful choices! I knew that you bought a collections imperials but I didn't know which color. Lovely. And the bracelet of course is perfect.

My flight was later than MyH. I had time to go to laduree for breakfast and to pick up some macarons to bring home. It was cold and damp that morning but by mid day the sun emerged and it was just a perfect glorious day. The doormen even said how sad it was to leave Paris on such a beautiful day. But I bid them au revoir and promised to return in the fall. (Thinking I must return to work now to pay the Amex bill. [emoji23]) I have stayed at that hotel at least twice per year for almost ten years now. It feels so much like home.

And now I'm really sad. [emoji22] I miss Paris already and I'll admit that MyH's posts have been keeping it alive for me for the last week. And now it's done. But every time I wear one of my little trinkets I think of Paris and fun and friends. And it makes me smile. [emoji4]

Thanks for the final installment! Been enjoying the vicarious journey with you!

Not sure about your clic color, but it may be vert Veronese which is a green I bought last year.
At any rate, all beautiful!

Lately the only international airport I seem to depart from is LHR terminal 1, and no H boutique!

BJs - LOL! no we did not get a lot of sleep. We would be out all day, come back to the hotel to get ready for dinner, come back from dinner late, and then play with our new things and talk about scarves and our wardrobes for a few more hours. One night, we even stayed up until 3am. No joke. But I loved every minute of it!

Oh my Arabesques! What a lovely porcelain necklace. If my memory serves me correctly, they did have other porcelain necklaces too. I think you are in big trouble! :roflmfao: But really, with the strong dollar against the Euro, it's actually quite "affordable" relatively speaking in Hermes language.

:roflmfao:

Oh, MYH! This is my dream—sweet, sweet news. I would love another porcelain piece. The one I have is one of my great H treasures. I baby it, I love it so much.

OMG!! I have loved every petit h necklace I've seen on this thread thus far....but this has to be my favourite!! I love birds so this one just sings to me [pin intended LOL]. I wonder if they still do this design of necklace in the permanent petit h collection.

Have a blast in Paris! It seems everyone on the forum is going there this month! Totally jealous lol.

Thank you, Bostonjet. I was thrilled when I took it home—I visited this piece three times before finally trying it, and it was love at first sight.

Thank you for the well wishes. If only my trip had overlapped with MYH and PbP's—I can tell they would be excellent shopping companions. :p

Thank you, hclubfan. I do love the H jewelry aesthetic so much. I feels part of me by now, and each piece is timeless. My carryon is heavy with all I'm bringing with me—I can't leave too much behind. I'd miss them!

Oh MYH, I wish you could just keep writing about Paris...it's a wonderful escape from the mundane tasks that seem to gobble up all too much of my time!! It sounds like you and PBP had an amazing time together....just love that you stayed up until 3 am chatting! Both of you picked out wonderful things from the petite h collection (mythique Phoenix is one of my all-time favorite H designs, and I sadly missed out on echec). I think you did a wonderful job of coming up with clever ways to use your beautiful silk cords. I couldn't possibly come up with another idea for you!

Beautiful choices! I knew that you bought a collections imperials but I didn't know which color. Lovely. And the bracelet of course is perfect.

HClubFan and PbP - don't worry I will keep this thread going. It's not over! I realized over the past few days that I really love the interaction and chance to chat with old friends and make new friends by posting on my scarf thread. I will keep it up and go through the rest of my scarf collection. I only wish I had more time in my day because I would also like to participate on SOTD too but I just don't have the time to be active on multiple threads.

Thanks for the final installment! Been enjoying the vicarious journey with you!

What a shame! I think you should write a letter to the airport director complaining about the lack of H in LHR Terminal 1! Thank you for the hint on my clic clac color. Happy to be twins with you!

Oh, MYH! This is my dream—sweet, sweet news. I would love another porcelain piece. The one I have is one of my great H treasures. I baby it, I love it so much.
I think you will be in Petit H porcelain heaven darling.

Oh my goodness- can you imagine if we three had gone shopping together? We might have detained the poor Petit H SA all day making her pull out every last item she has in her drawers. I'm sure it's ok for me to speak for PbP when I saw we would have loved to go shopping with you too! :hugs:

MYH and PbP thank you for sharing your Paris trip. Between the H goodies, VCA and the macarons, everything was swoon worthy! I miss having an H shopping buddy.

I also have not paid too much attention to Petit h, since the US website is a crap shoot, but I will definitely have to take a closer look. Is there a way to adjust the bracelet fit?

Ok, so I just have to jump in here again and reiterate how much I am enjoying reading about your trip with pocketbook pup! Thank you for sharing so much valuable and entertaining information. It looks like it was a wonderful trip...making me miss Paris so much! Hands down this has to be my favorite thread on tPF these days. I enjoy all of them, but your writing and insight is so very enjoyable to read!

I was so happy that MYH introduced me to petite h. She's an expert. We had so much fun naming the scarves from which each piece was made. Our very patient SA had only started two weeks prior and I think she got a kick out of our enthusiasm. It really was the most fun experience.

I bought two bracelets. Can you guess the scarf? Here's a clue: they are different colorways of the same scarf. I have both scarves which are among my favorites. The one on the right will give it away. It's a grail for many.

MYH had taught me the other day at fsh that the scarf ring below could be used as a pendant or a scarf ring. Plus it's gold on one side and silver on the other. A three fer! How could I pass that up? I planned to buy a silk cord for it but at sevres I found these. They had multiple colors but I settled on a classic black and a gold. I love that the gold even has contrast stitching.

PbP - I love these bracelets and wish that you had showed me in private. They would make the best ones to use for our 'guess the scarf' name. It is giving me good ideas though. :graucho::graucho:

What a beautiful ending to your write up about the Paris trip. Yes, Duty free is a must stop and I found my 'cheap' scarves last time I was there two years ago. I swear that I will save my last penny there. It is such a great way to wrap the trip and no lines to get the refund because it is tax free !!

So..............next stop is Vegas this weekend. Perhaps we can commission you to continue this so others can live vicariously thru you in our National meet ?? ;);)

The next day, I was ready for a break from shopping and went on a food tour by Paris by Mouth in the Latin Quarter. Do you want to revisit the places we stopped? If not, then skip to the next post for more retail therapy. But I think we could all take a break from shopping at this point right? Ok, get your flaneur or flaneuse shoes on...

That morning, PbP wasn't feeling well and decided to sleep in and get some much needed rest. I was feeling pretty good so I decided to go on the tour alone and join the food tour group.

The cab dropped me off on the Rue Mouffetarde. It's actually a street in the Latin Quarter that is for pedestrians only and has lots of food shops on both sides. As I was walking down the street to get to the meeting spot for the tour, I saw rows and rows of food shops and beautiful display cases.

The first stop was the shop of the patissier Carl Marletti. As soon as we walked up to the window, I could tell this guy was a big deal. His little cakes and tarts were so cute and the sweet smells coming out of the shop were incredible. If you're interested in checking out his website, here it is http://www.carlmarletti.com/boutique?l=fr
Our guide picked up a lemon tart (voted the best in Paris), a pistachio eclair, and a chocolate cake. But look at these desserts! Do you see the ones called Religieuse? They are supposed to look like little nuns. LOL!

Then we went to eat macarons at Gregory Renard's and our guide told us these in her opinion were better than Laduree. Well, my ears perked up when I heard this! I sampled a salted caramel and a rose and grapefruit flavored one. I'm sorry but I think I was too excited and forgot to take pictures here. On a later date, I actually went back and purchased a few more. OK, in my opinion, the salted caramel ones were too wet and dense for my taste. But the rose and grapefruit one was divine. And yes I would agree, they are probably better than Laduree's overall. Please don't throw rotten food at me for saying that!

Then we went to Androuet http://androuet.com/The House of Androuet today-3-histoire.html and it was hands down, the cutest cheese shop I have ever been too. As soon as you walked in, the delicious smell of cheese hit you as well as the pretty displays. I couldn't stop myself from taking photos. So here they are for you all to enjoy! Our tour guide bought some various cheeses from here and off we went to our next stop.!

A chocolate shop! Mococha. http://www.chocolatsmococha.com Our tour guide was telling us something about the MOF designation given to only certain chocolatiers in France and that it was very difficult to earn this but I was only half listening because I was busy reading all the little flavor labels in front of each chocolate! Here's a little article about it and how in 2015, the judges wouldn't award it to anyone. It's that tough. http://www.sogoodmagazine.com/pastry-blog/pastry-competition/mof-chocolatier-2015-not-awarded/
So this shop is owned by a woman that is able to source chocolates from existing MOF chocolate winners. Apparently no other shop in paris has the selection she has. Unfortunately, we were running late and I didn't have time to buy a box to take home. :shucks:
View attachment 3330139
Then our tour guide stopped to buy some mousse and rilette and a baguette before she took us to our final spot to feast on the cheese, meat spreads, and baguettes she had collected along the way. We ended up in the most charming wine shop http://vinetwhisky-claudel.com and drank wine, shared the food our tour guide had collected, and chatted with everyone for a very pleasant afternoon.

Oh the whole tour was just heaven and I would highly recommend it if you are in Paris!

Wow it is heaven indeed. As much as I love your souvenirs from Paris I really love the food most. I have to do this tour next time.

Lovely thread MYH You and PocketBP had such a blast in Paris and I've enjoyed very word of your posts, brilliant.
Vicarious shopping is one of my favourite activities and shopping in Paris is the best...
I'm even checking out Eurostar myself now !!!
