As long as a birkin doesn't kill your finances, get it, life is too short. I carried a black spy bag while moving from Texas to Philly. I was wearing no make-up, a t-shirt and baggie jeans from LL Bean. There is something about moving and making daily 12 hour drives that makes me forget about my looks.
Anyway, I don't think anyone noticed. What you do is your business and yes please post pictures.

I love this thread!! So thoughtful! I under stand that you may feel a bit self conscious, but sigh, it's clear how much you would like one. I agree with Loganz and Noriko, I mean you only live once I would go for it

I guess everyone really summed up what I would essentially say. Fayden's comment IMO was one of the best..I mean, seriously I've had the same problems.

I hate taking my designer bags to family events because everyone always asks: "OMG, why did you pay over a thousand for that bag?? Is it gold-plated or what?" I mean, even if I gave them a good enough reason they would never understand....so I just avoid that scenario all together.

And I completely understand about taking your designer bag to like Target or something....Im glad I wasn't the only one that felt that way. But all in all, you got to do with what you feel happiest doing. You will NEVER please EVERYONE. People are so fickle you know...If it's cold they complain b/c they like the warm weather and when it's hot out, they complain about December weather not coming around fast enough!...and that's JUST the weather!....

Im a college student and I KNOW I'm tool limited economically to be purchasing these designer bags...but that's what I'm into you know? I love saving up and splurging on what makes ME feel good and on what I like.

I ramble...sorry

Go for it, girlie! Buy that Birkin.:amuse:

I wear most casual dresses, Juicy pants, tshirts and Birkenstock sandals, and as I don't spend a lot for these, I've just saved my money for a Birki, so go on, buy your's and be happy:)))))

Girl! Get the bag! No one you know will understand why you even considdered paying so much so that is a topic I have personally learned to avoid. I simply tell people that it was a gift. I have friends who have looked it up on e-bay and seen it at obscene prices and that is what they quote when someone asks. It will draw attention. No 2 ways about that. Even from those who don't know anything about anything. My best analogy for this is to say that your buying this bag is equal to a man buying a Ferrari. Women (or gay guys) in the know will be awed by your taste and style. People who have no idea what the difference between a Guess and Gucci will still look at it and wonder what it is. That and it is really the only TIMELESS bag out there. Yes i did get the JPG but that is because i feel that the size and shape are more appropriate for my look. Not sure about the timeless part but i can tell you this much. From Gucci to Botega to Prada to YSL to Goyard my Hermes is the best one yet. I litterally cried when they told me it was available for pickup. Keep doing your thing! :yahoo:

PS. I know samantha from sex and the city would completely disapprove of this but in response to what to wear with it the answer is anything! I wore mine with a zip up hoodie (fake london genious people) and torn jeans and a pair of pumas. no jokes. do it mama. do it.

If you want it, and you can afford it, get the Birkin! Don't let objects dictate where you go, how you dress, etc. It's your bag, it goes where YOU want to go and becomes a part of YOUR outfits.

I go everywhere with my bags. I don't care if it's Target or an invite-only party at the museum. The bags don't care...they are oohed and aahed over by those who appreciate them anywhere and everywhere. If I only took them out on special occasions, I think they'd be sad. And the hallmark of a real fashion maven is someone who can mix up designer stuff with chic non-label items. So I dont' think you should worry about the peripheral stuff and just think about the bag and whether you want it or not.

I say if you can afford it, get it! I decided to "test drive" a Birkin-inspired bag and it is absolutely gorgeous! I carry it everywhere. And the best part is, I paid under $1,000 for it, so I don't have to feel guilty about what I spent or justify it to anyone. Will I get a *real* Birkin someday? Probably. I definitely think the style is timeless and it is something you can carry forever. And the Birkin is a casual style, so it is perfect for jeans and a t-shirt OR the office.

If you can afford it, and if you really love it, then get it! If at night all you think about is that hermes, then that's telling you something. If you get it, Post pics!!

I think you should go for it. If the Birkin is what you love and what you will feel good wearing, you're going to exude confidence every time it's on your arm. And in my opinion, confidence in the way you talk and carry yourself is something that's essential to being considered stylish and attractive. Not to mention a bag like that can make any outfit look more upscale because the bag is so great. If it doesn't kill your wallet, then you should do what makes you happy.
