My Hermes handbag and er, not high end lifestyle

I see people all the time driving around L.A. in porsches and mercedes and bmws and even hummers and drive right up to their little studio apartments where they run to the front door! If you can afford it and it won't put you in debt, do it. It's a nice bag you'll have for a lifetime.

This was almost covered in another thread but not directly. I know you guys will help:D

Here are the facts: oh I am soo long winded

I am obsessing over Hermes and would love to own a Birkin.
I think it would cap off my collection and I want it for the usual reasons mere mortals want them.

The thing I don't have is the Hermes lifestyle to go with the bag. I live in a very nice area but have yet to see anyone carry an "it" bag. Those I only see in the airport. It's LV and much Coach here. I dress in basics.

I started getting manicures when I got my Paddy and paid more attention to my shoes :D

It occurs to me that I might look foolish walking into, say, the Nature's Grocery and then GNC Nutrition. Off we go to Target and a quick stop at the mall...

...not that I'm so hung up on what people think. Thankfully putting some mileage on helped with that pesky issue. Still, I don't bring my designer bags to certain family gatherings to avoid any conversation about them.

...I'm not spending my days in places where this bag would be a given. I live in an absolute vacuum with friends that are clueless that they are sitting next to a Paddy, Gucci or Chanel or it just isn't their thing. But it's mine. I'm a Leo. What can I say? :shame:

I'm not getting any younger. I think the time to do this would be while I still hopefully have decades to enjoy it. I love the Evelyne too but...it's not a Birkin. Rather than pass it on I would probably sell it at some point in the future. In this way it would sort of be an investment. Sort of kind of. Okay- I'm rationalizing again. I am thinking of purchasing a pre-owned from bona fide authentic seller IF I buy. I won't do the waiting list thing. I understand the thrill of that retail ritual but it most likely will not be part of the experience.

Ok, what say you?

And..do Birkins fly in coach?

If it's something that you think you will enjoy, do it! I've seen women carrying Hermes in COSTCO. (I've seen women carrying Chanel bags in that same Costco...that is a very chic Costco.:amuse: ) Seriously, do it for you.

If you finally got the bag of your dream is you dream over. Will you feel deflated. This is the conversation I had with my GF. I guess you could by more. I would love a CROC birkin or Kelly but I know this will never happen. Unless I make it a ritual to visit Hermes everyday. You should subscribe to the Birkin watch.

life is too short not to do the things you really want. if you can afford it and you really want it, why the heck not?
in my world most people do not know what I'm carrying or have in my purse closet. most people just think i'm nuts because "why does a person need more than 2 bags?" etc.
i've stopped caring. when I carry or buy a beautiful bag, i'm happy.

Look, some save up for a Porsche, because it's their fantasy, their dream to own one. Including me, I'm a sucker for Porsche.

I'd say go for it, it'll be your baby forever.

Owning a Porsche is my dream too!! I hope you get this car soon!

I live in an Army town. I see LV's everyday. Probably everyone of them fake from a soldier who was stationed in Korea.

Sometimes I do feel a little awkward, we definitely don't have a high end lifestyle & if someone asks me where I bought my lipstick, sweater, shoes &c. I'm honestly nervous to answer.

It's funny because they'll say something like, oh, because I saw a pair just like it at Payless & I'm thinking, then you didn't look at the details very closely! :)

i carred my hologram spy bag wearing old navy pants. LOL. i don't wear any make up and sometimes i don't even bother brushing my hair when i leave the house. hope this helps! i really can't be bothered what people think of me too much. do what YOU want and as long as you're happy with yourself.

So glad this thread was posted. And Fayden I'm right there with you (although I have to brush my hair because I would look like jungle woman if I didn't :p ) I admit I have wondered if people thought my bags were fake because I'm dressed down but eventually I just said "the heck with what they think." I like my bags, know there're real so I'm carry them! :D

I agree--I would get the bag you love, but in the case of this bag, probably not on ebay because I understand that Birkins can be very tricky there, although I'm sure there are reputable sellers if you do your research, just as there are with other brands. Although I live in NYC, I travel in a number of circles and in some of those circles, people wouldn't necessarily be able to distinguish a designer bag from a cantalope and I prefer it that way. The bag is for me. I am often around people who could not necessarily afford to spend a lot of money for a handbag and I don't want them to feel that I'm doing something they can't do. So it's better they don't know or care.

I dont think you necessarily NEED the lifestyle, if it makes you happy go for it ;) Then POST PICS!

I totally agree with Noriko. If it makes you happy, and you really want the bag, you should go for it. Who cares what other people think?

Thanks all for the responses: I so appreciate it!

I'll be steering quite clear of sketchy ebay sellers for sure. I've got someone looking out for me at a Hermes store so we will see...
