I'm sorry about your bag :(

Your kitty is very cute despite his "issues"

I know it can be frustrating.. I don't have cats, but have 4 small dogs and they have chewed all the base molding in my house in every room even w/supervision.

The things we deal with for our fur-family!

I don't really have any suggestions, I just wanted to say how cute your kitty is. And that I can sympathize with you because we have two dogs who never peed in the house until we started having babies. After my oldest son was born the dogs would pee on his toybox and in his room. After my youngest son was born they started peeing in his room too. Now we have new carpet so we have gates up everywhere, some to keep the kids in, and some to keep the dogs out. I know this doesn't help with your purse, but I understand how frustrating if can be with pets. I hope you get it figured out.

What about the dry cleaners or steam cleaning ? Did he spray the whole bag ? I know that bag is htf maybe somebody will buy it anyway if you disclose in your auction.

No, thankfully it is just a little on the flap. It was like 3 spots.. a mini spray, if you will. :hrmm:

I will see about cleaning it professionally for sure.. but the smell is not coming out.. there is no stain though.. so I guess thats a good thing

Oh no :(

One of my kitties decided that she wanted to use my bed and the sofa as litter boxes. I did use Feliway and that worked a little (vet suggested the automatic diffuser one rather than just the spray and near her bed not the places she did her business). But, unfortunately, the solution for me was 3 litter boxes in a tiny apartment. I understand why cat + 1 is the rule in houses but I only have 600 sq. ft. to work with.

I also did as much avoidance as I could manage. They just weren't allowed in the bedroom for a few weeks. Maybe try keeping your kitty in one room or one area (a basement?) with food, his choice of litter boxes, and the Feliway diffuser thingy. Then try to block out some time when you go down and just dote on him and play with him? Then slowly reintroduce him to the rest of the house?

I'm really sorry. It is so frustrating. I'd come home from a business trip and find piles of poo in my bed. I just wanted to cry. But... man, kitties are worth all the frustration at the end of the day.

In 2000, 1 of my adult cats(Stimpy)started peeing on the carpet in my hallway. I was cleaning and scrubbing that area constantly. Eventually I decided to cut that part of carpet out and put tile, thinking that would stop him. I was so upset that i put all 4 of our cats in our screened porch enclosure. Stimpy found a hole in the screen and got out. What I would give to have him back again. Someone suggested to me (as others have on the thread) that he probably had a UTI and was undiagnosed. I still cry my eyes out whenever I think about it. (not that it has anything to do with purses...my only point is my cat was a member of my family).

Taralindsey: I'm so sorry about your bag. But the good new is, you don't have to get rid of your cat. And your cat didn't "poo" on your purse intentionally. I had the same kind of thing happen recently (I was luckier, my cat "sprayed" the bathroom curtain and the cuff of my sweater which could be tossed immediately in the washer!). I'll try not to be to graffic, however, this came from your cat's "anal gland". Both male and female cats have the "gland". Fixed or not doesn't matter. I have 2 female and 1 male cat, all were fixed as young kittens. The male cat and 1 female cat have both (unfortunately) done this. Here is a link that will tell you everything you ever (didn't) want to know about your cat's "personal area". Unfortunately, I don't have any advise on cleaning the purse. Hopefully, the article will give you information so that it doesn't happen again.

<shrug> My cat had a problem with her anal gland, an infection that had to be drained and treated by the vet (then by me with antibiotics). But she's never sprayed on anything. I think that some cats have their anal glands removed, but only if they have consistent problems with infection. I don't know that it's a voluntary procedure.

Oh! The other thing I wanted to suggest. Besides Feliway, have you tried putting Rescue Remedy drops in his water? It's an herbal supplement (for humans as well) that you can buy at Whole Foods and places like that. One of my rescue cats had a urination problem for a little while and the other was deathly afraid of all males (I think he was abused). After a month or so on this, it helped them both GREATLY!

aww dont get rid of him!! youve had him for seven years and i bet he loves you with his whole little heart even though it doesnt seem like it with the spraying..but he IS an animal. I have to agree with some others about animal shelters, too...cats tend to be the casue of overcrowding at shetlers and unless you take him to a no-kill one, chances are he'll be killed if no one takes him, which is heartbreaking. definetely talk to your vet and think really hard before giving him up after having him for sooo long

yes, we have been giving the drops too along with the feliway plug ins and spraying feliway in every room except litter box room every day(except a few times when we forgot)

I know he loves us and I love him.. but I need to find some more solutions. I can't keep this up, I mean.. there is always going to be smells he doesn't like or people coming over that he doesn't know. He even sprays the kids stuff sometimes and I found that he sprayed in my bathtub too:confused1:

My purse smells horrible. I sprayed it with water and vinegar solution and it did nothing for the smell.. I'm so sad :crybaby:

To have any chance of getting the smell out, you are going to have to use an enzyme spray...dang I cannot remember the one we had. The problem is that I don't know what it will do to the fabric of the bag. How many litter boxes do you have for him and where are they?

We have 2 cats and a dog...

We have 2 litter boxes in the the only part of our house that the dog and babies can't get to. The Dog, Zoe, eats the poop out of the litter box if they are available to her..., I know.

Anyway.. one is in the hall closet and one is about 3 feet away from the other and they are both blocked off by a baby gate. We call it the kitty latrine. Let me just tell you that before the spraying he and out other cat shared a litter box since they both moved in with us. Never once had any issues with outside urinating until the kids were born. He didn't seem to care when we got the dog either. He goes in the litter box all the time, so I know he is using it. We clean them daily and really clean them weekly.

He seems to be set off when outsiders come over. We had some travertine installed in our kitchen and when they were done.. what does the cat do? He sprays it. The maid comes over to clean.. he sprays my bathtub. We have a birthday party for Ava.. he sprays the guest bathroom. I know that he sprays around the front door too, and that may be from another cat outside.. I haven't seen one, but this is my guess. I try to keep the blinds closed so he can't see out there.. but he has also sprayed the blinds in the dining room and kitchen.. I am going crazy here. I finally have (had) a nice house with my family and he is ruining it.. and my purse collection..

Sorry for the rant.. I am just frustrated over the whole situation. :hysteric:
