And Goyard...such Louis Vuitton Copycats...if you look you can compare pieces side by side and you KNOW who came up with it first...and the prices!! $500 for a Canvas with leather lining billfold!!

I agree with Sonja- Goyard has been around since before Vuitton (1852 exactly). So if anyone "copycatted" it was LV.

the Prada nylon bags are definitely overrated, especially the plain black ones that cost so much more than they're worth. i have only ONE prada tie-dye hobo, and i think it'll be the only Prada i'll ever own.

Louis Vuitton is a little overrated too, especially now that the prices have been raised and you have to pay a hefty amount for a relatively small bag. I still love LV to death, but sometimes I think of the money I've spent on my bags and I literally cringe.

I agree with Prada but also Burberry! I just don't get all the fascination with plaid canvas! What is about it that attracts people? I know some PF members have Burberry bags and I hope I don't offend them. But I'd rather spend my money on leather (and solid color!). Just my opinion!

I agree with ValleyOppressed and Sonja. Not only is Goyard established one year earlier than LV, Goyard started using its signature Chevron pattern in 1885 whereas LV only started using their existing monogram pattern in 1892. Therefore, in this case, LV is the copycat of Goyard.

Goyard may have been around longer, but they didn't really reinvent the wheel or anything. Trunks have a basic structure, and all of the manufacturers of the time were trying to come up with something durable as travelers were using trains/boats instead of carriages/coaches--and thus the flat-topped trunk was born for stacking purposes.

If anyone needs to copycat now, it's Goyard, and their target should be LV. Their products aren't nearly as nice, but they tend to cost a great deal more. For those prices, I'd expect a lot more detail, but they don't deliver.

I have to confess that I LIKE the nylon prada bags. But that's just because I'm weird...I don't like leather, lol. So anything jacquard or nylon gets my kudos.

They didn't copy the design though, LV had it's own, and the Damier canvas was used before the Mono.

I'm with MandM, I like Prada nylon. I'm not a big fan of leather and I actually use my bags and don't baby them. I've had one prada nylon bag for over 12 years and it still looks brand new. I don't care what anyone says but if a bag can last for that long with the wear that I've put it through then it's a great bag and well worth it. As for the most overrated I think it's LV.

The nyon will last, but I question Prada's pricing. At least with an LV I'm getting a fair amount of leather and detailing, and if something goes wrong, they'll make it right.

Reactions: Namwan-
Anything monogram (upwards of 1K for fabric with leather trim?!), Louis Vuitton in general (Marc Jacobs' multitasking isn't working really working for me these days) and Hermes. I know everyone thinks the Birkin is the Holy Grail of bags so please don't shoot me, but I often wonder if the hype drives up the price more than the materials and craftsmanship.

Versace - can anyone actually remember what ANY of their bags look like? I saw one today in Harvey Nicks that was all squashed and looked like it had been run over by a truck! (actually there is a pic somewhere of J Lo carrying that one - hideous!)

IMO:

1) Vuitton - overpriced, overexposed, overfaked. No matter how much we like to think/pretend that we hate LV, we still come back to the house satan made season after season after season.

2) Prada - overpriced

3) Dior - I used to have a lot of dior bags but the quality sucks. there's no such thing as a 'classic' dior bag because all the bags this house comes out with are soo painfully trendy.

LV. Selling denim and kindergarten monogrammed bags at premium prices...I don't think I'll ever get it.And brown monogram...70's style palette....not pretty in any way in my book.

Well...someone asked...

Quite! :smile1:

I think that people will always tend to list their least favourite brands as the most overated!

Still, I vote LV, followed by Hermes (simply for their enormous prices and the fact monaco-babe likes them [only joking!]), followed by Prada (especially the nylon numbers  ).

This is despite the fact that I own a Prada clutch (see, I've tried to be fair!). :smile1:
