Montreal Hermes

I was a walk in, no appointment, in early June. No crowds. Montreal H is relatively small compared to my home store. RTW selection (my main interest) was sparse, but there seemed to be a nice array of scarves, shoes, and non QB (I didn’t see any of the non QB popular with TPFers). I was interested in one RTW item, but I got the distinct vibe that the very polite SA would prefer to sell it to a regular customer. Thanked him and left.

Hi everyone
I am planning to start my Hermes journey (hoping to land a birkin in a few years time) and Montreal is the closest boutique to where I live. Do you think it is worth it to work with the Montreal boutique or should I start a profile in Toronto? The only thing is Toronto is much farther and I won’t be able to visit as often. Would love to hear thoughts or if anyone has had a similar dilemma in the past!

Montreal is my home store and I love it. While it is my closest store, it is still a 3 hour flight away since I am in NL. Toronto would probably have been an easier option for me since I am there more often for business and family but it just happened that I started working with my SA in Montreal. I travel a lot and am lucky to visit a lot of different Hermes store in the US and Europe. While I have had luck at those stores, I have learned it’s best to be patient and shop with my SA. She has been very good to me. I think Toronto will likely have much more inventory since it’s a bigger store but maybe more competition?

So, I guess in summary I would chose the store where you feel you have a connection with the SA and then where you feel you can shop in store the most.

Since it is a smaller store with limited inventory, would it be harder to build a profile here? Would they frown on always having to order items in? Just curious as I am contemplating making this my ‘home ‘ store. I am mostly interested in RTW, shoes, watches, fine jewelry. Thanks.

In my experience, I have been lucky and have never had a issue sourcing a particular item from another store in advance of my visit. My SA has done this for shoes, porcelain and scarves/shawls for me. I haven't bought RTW so can't advise on that availability. I have found them to have a good selection of silver jewelry and have had what I was looking for. The only watches I have purchased there have been the Apple Watch and straps. To date, I haven't had any issue building a profile and have obtained only items I was interested in purchasing. HTH!

Both are lovely stores. I agree with this post quoted. I’d pick the one you can get to more often and be loyal to that store. Montreal has lovely experienced SAs.

We stopped in yesterday. Very pretty boutique with great SAs. The RTW selection was impressive. We only purchased a pair of gloves that we couldn’t find in NY. I happened to ask why even the evelyne and Geta bags were labeled as display only and the SA said “the demand for bags is extremely high so we only sell them to our local clients.”

I wonder if border clients have done well establishing themselves as “local” clients. With the CAD where it is, it pricing out of Canada is quite competitive and if global visibility hasn’t hit yet, they wouldn’t see the US profiles. I know our Canadian TPFers lament the lack of stock in store but I do wonder if these shops see some bigwigs from due south.
