Ok, I've clearly gone over the top here....but as we're all revelling in the practicality of the MT, why not a monokini? ;-)

Did you say revelling or revealing? Fine, I'm sold now with extreme modeling pics like this! But no monokini for me, draping around the neck fully-clothed is how I intend to wear it....

:shucks:

That's not so good. I doubt you're too rough on them, I mean, you have hardly owned it for any length of time and I would hope for many years of durability. Snags are one thing, it can happen, but fraying?
Is there any way you can exchange it, maybe it's an unfortunate solitary faulty one, I hope.
Sorry to hear, D Lee.

OH NO!!!!! Can you post a pic??? Snags are one thing but FRAYING after one or 2 wears? That is not acceptable!!!

Oh my!! This sounds pretty scary ! Can you post a pic?

That is NOT good! :wtf:

I am perplexed! My story is as follows:
I bought a Bordeaux Calvacadour on 12 Sept. I discovered a run on it & immediately took it back to H for a replacement on 13 Sept. SA informed me that company policy dictated that only 1 exchange was allowed. So I inspected my new maxi as if I were performing an autopsy! At home, I did try out various ways of knotting the maxi using the 3 scarfrings shown(2 from H. 1 from MT). The maxi has never been worn outside the home. This morning, I discovered snags/frayings(?) in several places on the scarf. Shocked. These dots are broken silk threads jutting out of the scarf. Normally, u would expect to find them on old scarves. Mine is brand new & I have ALWAYS put on surgical gloves(u can see I was wearing them in the photos) when I put on/remove scarves. I have adopted this habit for months & ALL my silks, moussies & CSMCs are snag-free. So u can imagine my surprise when I found a bunch of snags/frayings on my maxi! Now I am wondering the wisdom of getting more maxis!

Wow, I'm shocked! That happened wearing surgical gloves?? I'm not that careful with any of my scarves/ shawls. I'll have to check out mine now.

D Lee - I'm sorry this has happened to your twillys. I checked mine this morning very carefully and didn't see any blemishes. I am not even as careful as you and don't wear surgical gloves. I have worn my black calvacadour maybe 5 times with scarf rings since I bought it and it still looks perfect. I'm wondering - could it be your seatbelt snagging/pulling on the silk? I don't think it's your scarf rings. I know this happened to you before but if the ones you used don't have any rough edges, I think it's unlikely. I hope you get to the bottom of what is causing this.

Just left the Vienna (VA) store and they had the orange and turquoise calvacadour, and the gray Brazil plus another color way which escapes me right now. One of the turquoise calvacadours came home with me :smile1:

Thx so much for responding, MYH! This matter is mysterious indeed. I actually used my 10X jeweller's loupe to check if my scarf rings had rough edges. The Bordeaux maxi had been knotted in various ways but had never left my apt. It has only been worn in front of the mirror for a total of less than an hr! And my SA guaranteed that I was the first person to touch the maxi.
I am happy to learn that yours is so far blemish-free. For I would REALLY like to buy 1/2 maxis more! They are so pretty! Let's hope that mine is an isolated incident!

I don't think there is anything defective about the scarf at all. If you are pulling them through scarf rings, there is a chance that can lift the warp/weft/threads.

I just can't imagine having things I had to deal with with surgical gloves - that implies a level of fragility I would find very frustrating. Fortunately, my silks and cashmeres (and leathers) have all worn well, considering, and I guess I just see things like this as part of the wear and tear you get with an item over time.

I would just enjoy it if I was you. If it's only noticeable with a 10x loupe ... it's very small indeed.

I don't think I would want to own something so delicate. I think this means I will have to give away my entire scarf collection. It is fairly large as I started when I was 18. Line starts on the left. Kidding!

I am happy to report that my silks, even the oldest have withstood multiple wearings and are not snagged or pulled. I think they wear extremely well, including the shawls. I like to think I am wearing the scarf and not that it is wearing me. If a person's anxiety or unhappiness level, with any product, is so great, then it is time to re-evaluate and pass. Cut the umbilical cord to perfection and wear whatever it is and be happy and comfortable doing so.

Funny you should post this because when I was at my store trying on them on the first day when it was launched, at least two of the ones I tried had snags! I thought it was because they had been handled by overly excited customers! The one I eventually bought, I had specifically asked them to bring one "from the back". Most of my silk twills are in perfect condition after seasons of wearing and I am not overly careful with them. So I don't know what to make of this situation.

This. These scarves are beautiful, yes, but in comparison to, say, collectible art, they are mass-produced, RTW pieces. It is unrealistic to expect microscopic levels of perfection, indefinitely. Just enjoy!

:goodpost: Actually, great post.

I don't know what to think either. I am most uncareful with my scarves and use them everyday so my single Maxi will be a test run :-s

To lighten the mood, there is now a promo video on the maxis on http://uk.hermes.com/

Can I just say I was disturbed by the rough edges on my new flat Chaîne d'Ancre, so much so I was almost at tantrum, steam coming out of my ears level. Then I found out I could peel the cellophane protective layer off :shame: :D

Thx for your response, gracekelly. Scarves are not delicate objects! I am bewildered/unhappy because the remaining 40+ scarves in my collection do not have this issue. All have been worn & pulled thru' my scarf rings! I am unhappy not because these 'spots' appear, but because they appear on a brand new scarf which hasn't even been worn outside the home. Not even once. I put on surgical gloves because I have not been using a nail clipper for decades. I bite/tear my nails & they are jagged!
I understand & accept the fact that a few years down the road, all except one of my scarves will show wear & tear. That one exception is because it will be framed. And I would be just as unhappy if the potential framed scarf suddenly showed these spots.

I love the story of the cellophane! Sorry to be off topic but this reminds me of when I bought my first Rivale PHW bracelet. I thought that the hardware was so dark, until hours later while wearing it, I realized there was plastic covering the ring and pyramid studs! :D
