Has anyone used the Collonil Classic leather gel on their veg tanned bag? Tried searching this thread but couldn't see that anyone has. I have a black bucket and would like to put some basic protection on it against rain and stains.

Haven't tried collonil but love leather milk #1. It doesn't waterproof or stain proof but it's a great conditioner for overall moisture and buffing out minor scratches, and I've personally found that you really don't need to stress that much about rain with the black veg tanned leather. It just doesn't show marks that much like the cammello and Brandy.

Ok, great, thanks a lot sark!

So, which of the leather treatments are best for waterproofing, and how would they rank in terms of darkening the leather? I'll be using it on my Camello backpack, and it needs to be able to survive a Canadian winter eventually. :) (It was raining this morning so I had to dump everything out of it and switch to another bag! Really need to treat it so that I can make use of it.)

I think Chamberlain #3 fits the bill the best, after going through this entire thread, but their website does warn about darkening!

I got my MG reg sized bucket today. When I ordered it from PS Dept, the picture was a black bucket with a royal blue interior. When I indicated I wanted the the black and blue, I didn't anticipate a navy that is so close to the black exterior. Oh well. The plus is that it will hide dirt better lol.

I hadn't noticed any posts on using LMB, and since I had the kit, I went for it. When I applied the pretreat and the protection products, the leather was a bit streaky. When I got to the conditioner, the streaks remaining after buffing disappeared. Some dirt or dye did come off on the sponges and microfiber cloth, which I have attached a pic to show.

I've just used chamberlain #3 on both my cammello bags. I only used it on one side first just to see if there was any darkening, and there wasn't. It may appear darker at first (especially if you use too much, like I did) but after a couple of hours it settles back to its normal colour.

before treatment, right out of the packaging, the bag squeaked. Post treatment, the leather is more supple and reminds me old school classic coach bag leather with its sheen, if that makes sense. Bonus, the squeak is gone.

Tried the Collonil Classic on my black mini bucket, like with other treatments I too got a lovely shine and squeaking disappeared.

(That is to say, the bag now is shiny and squeak-free, not I!)

Beautiful!

I've also remarked how MGs remind me of the way old (and wonderful) days of Coach.

Great to know! I just placed an Amazon order for a bottle of #3, and look forward to giving my backpack a little armor. :)

(X-posting from the broken-in/patina-ed thread.)

I applied a second coat of Apple Leather Care conditioner on my Brandy mini bucket last night. (The first coat was about two weeks ago?) afterwards I realised I'd never applied any to the area where the straps overlap, so before I rectified that I took a photo with the untreated strap as a reference to show how the conditioner has helped to deepen the patina over a fairly short period of time.

Wow,that is a color difference! I love both shades.

Has it helped with the scratches?

I really hope I get mine on order from BG in October!

The difference is really quite stark. I was surprised since, looking at and using this bag as often as I do, I didn't really notice the gradual evolution of the colour.

The Apple leather conditioner did help to fade the appearance of usage scratches. You can just barely see where there are still some faint signs of scratches, to the left of the drawstring knot and to the right of the non-patina'ed strap. They blend in pretty well with the bag now.

Applied a coat of Leather Milk Liniment No. 1 on my 3 week old veg tanned bucket and brand calf new lady. Pictures show before on the left and after on the right.

The bucket has already been treated with Apple conditioner and Apple Garde waterproof spray 3 weeks ago, but I decided to just condition it again anyway. It's hard to tell the difference in photos, but it looks a little shinier in real life.

The calf lady looked a little parched when it arrived, especially at areas where it bends and wrinkles. After conditioning, it looks much more comfortable. It didn't do much for the weird bleach smell, but simply airing the bag for 2 days helped greatly in that respect.
