The problem is I already Spent more than 1:1 and my location is not that competitive, so I try not to spend more than what I need to or u think I might have to buy it?
It also depends on what specs you’re waiting for? If it’s the smaller popular size bags then yes it may be a hint from your SA that it’s not enough. Also did you ask for the jewelry? If yes then it wouldn’t be great for you to pass as they located it for you. If no then I think it’s okay to politely decline and maybe consider buying something else that you like to up you’re prespend a bit more and subtly ask about the QB. I don’t shop in YYZ but know it’s a competitive store, but I am also located in Canada so I know it’s a tough market.

I can't speak for all the SAs out there, but all of mine (Hermes, Chanel, LV) would ask for a reference code or link if I sent them a screenshot from the website. I think it's a reasonable thing to ask...
Ha….Really? None of mine ever…I mean we r luxury shopping. Not grocery shopping.

I think it’s very reasonable as well if they can see it’s a screenshot from website. But if it is a social media photo, then I hope they don’t ask.

It is also my practice to give the reference.
These are some interesting perspectives. I have never sent my SA reference numbers to anything. I just send a screen shot, and maybe a brief description of the item (if the name got cut off in the H screen shot or if it was a stock/social media photo). I'll also send the preferred color(s) I want.

Hi ladies, so I have been shopping with my sa for 6 months now. I spent a little more than 1:1 ratio. I don’t want to spend any more and just want to wait for an offer but the sa keeps texting me about a piece of fine jewelry. Is it ok if I can tell her I would like to wait for the bag first and purchase that fine jewelry together with the bag? Thank u!
Since you’re in Toronto, I would say that your SA is probably hinting on the piece of jewelry for your QB. I experienced this with my SA offering me RTW. I was fairly new back then and didn’t recognize the signs but then I asked for some fine jewelry I was eyeing and she somehow made a gesture that it was good, and I got my QB shortly after that purchase. I thought she just meant the item I wanted was nice but looking back, it probably meant that I got from one of the categories that would increase my chances and it did help for sure.
As for spend, It was already competitive here pre pandemic, and it’s just gotten worse. The 1:1 back then I feel is now an exception rather than the norm. My friend got her first QB at 3.3:1 spend, though we also had 2 SAs leave during that time.
Good luck and hope you get your bag soon

This confuses me so much cause I also have an SA at the Toronto store who has explicitly told me that there's no "spend" and that there's just a long waitlist that once your turn comes, you get a choice of your bag. Does it depend on the SA or is my SA just not interested in working with me? I've spent maybe 2-3k at this store with her but had to travel for work for the past 6 months so I don't know if it's ever going to happen at this rate with the difference in "policies"?

SAs often refuse to acknowledge the existence of pre spend, especially in North America (they tend to be more straightforward in for example Asia). It’s probably a culture thing but also to protect from potential consumer complaints.

For the lack of a better way to put it: the SA was basically lying because in some places they aren’t allowed to admit out loud the pre-spend system despite it being how things actually work.

Of course depending on what bag you want and your luck there is always a chance you get something but that would be more like a miracle than how things work. 2-3k and no follow up in 6 months is definitely nowhere near the amount to get a popular / more desirable bag offer.

U need to think there is an internal “market” in H stores. There is “no pre spend” but the brand wishes to “reward” loyal clients with an offering of their coveted quota bags. Say there are 200 customers who are top spenders (no offense, but one of the very objective measurement of loyalty) the store offers them quota bags. Say their spend 2 or 3 times spending of the retail price of a quota bag….by and by waves and waves of customers are spending at that levels, it becomes a sort of a market rate for that store to get a quota bag, “pre spend threshold”.

….u figure what happens to those who spent a fraction of the retail price of a quota bag.

@smoothsailor @momoc Thank you for the detailed responses!

I wish my SA was just more open about it. I don’t mind dropping twice or thrice the amount of the bag I want but don’t feel comfortable doing it if there won’t be an offer as a result. I’ve been burned before about 8 years ago by my Dubai SA who made me drop 50k AED only quit the next week and the store basically acted like I had to start again with a new SA + new spend. I hate the games and gaslighting that goes on with SAs at H, I’m a straight shooter so if I need to drop a large amount to be offered a bag, tell me and I’ll do it. The Toronto store turnover is far too high to be taking a risk without assurance of reward.

Also, my job is what affords me this financial stability. Having to travel for work isn’t something in my control so sometimes it feels like unless I’m making a pilgrimage to my local store (1 hour away from my Canadian home btw) on a weekly basis, my SA will never give me what I want. It sucks to be punished by H for being ultra career oriented.

I really do appreciate both of your insight though! Looks like I need to stop keeping hopes that this will result in a bag.

It seems that boutiques in Asia are more suitable for u. But nowadays the demand is so strong, u might need to do subsequent trip(s) to get the quota bag. But there is the risk of SA leaving in any store. U just need to find a reputable one that will honor the spend in the store.
