Thanks! I appreciate your thoughts and the poll results are very helpful! Yeah, I probably am overanalyzing it. I just heard that Hermes (and other luxury houses) don't like the idea of people buying their items on the second-hand market. If I start talking to an SA and it comes up, I didn't want my buying preloved to be a negative.
I thought that the distinction was between buying from a reseller v. buying pre-loved...I can't imagine any luxury retailer would have an objection to you purchasing an item second hand. My B35, which I often carry when shopping with my SA, is used/pre-loved/secondhand and my SA knows that and doesn't seem to care.

I really am interested in starting my "Hermes journey." I do have an Hermes necklace and bracelet that I bought preloved (excellent condition, at such good deals). Should I wear them when shopping at Hermes? Would it look good (because it shows brand interest and loyalty) or bad (if the SA finds out that I buy their products at non-Hermes stores)? I'd really appreciate your thoughts and insights!!
How would they know? i don’t think they would care, I mean, I loved H before I met my SA
IMO don’t worry about it
Plus if its an interesting or discontinued piece, they may be very interested to learn about it or see it.

Thanks for the reality check and encouragement!! Good points from everyone - will definitely make an appointment with the same SA next time, or be more direct with the next one I work with.

SF SAs I’ve worked with previously included their contact info w the receipt even for small purchases, but who’s to say others would do the same?
I have a positive update!!

Ok sooo, since shopping more and exploring boutiques in my region - I’m now connected to an awesome SA in my local store, and one in another city I visit often :D They’re both so friendly and I no longer feel so intimidated. Thanks TPFers for helping me get out of my head and enjoy the H experience!

Yay! Congrats!!

I’ve been discouraged and felt super intimidated when I first started out too since the Boutique close to me wasn’t clicked and it was so hard to get to know the SAs. Then I switched to another location a bit further downtown which is now my home store. Long behold, I finally found myself an amazing SA who is nothing but amazing and went above and beyond for me to get things that I wanted.
I’ve been a happy little camper withmy
Home store and my SA.

have a wonderful experience with your SAs!

i thought i would share my recent experience
i don't have a store in my city so i use one in a different city - few hours drive - but i have consistently purchased from on SA who is awesome. i have had great quota bag offers including b 25/ k25/ c18 and a chance to do an SO which i am eagerly awaiting for its arrival-- and i have defnitely purchased across the board bc i really do love most things
i sometimes buy small things on line -- more impulse purchases since i dont get to the store --scarves, scarf rings.. but never RTW or anything of that caliber-- i dont always want to bother her about small things .. esp if im not sure i will love it or not and i think returning to store can be cumbersome.
but recently, i was texting w her about a dress she said " your online purchases are killing me . lol!"
first i thought i was being paranoid and had a guilty conscience bc i had just bought a scarf online.. but then it turned out she saw my on line purchases.. anyway we had a phone conversation and everything is/ was fine.. and honestly i really like her and she's been great so i didn't mind the call.. but it was funny - she felt bad -- as if i thought i couldn't approach her about things i wanted..
and i guess they can see everything.. not that i was trying to hide it..
i felt like i got caught with my pants down.... !
anyway, i know this sounds like a lot of drama, and honestly we both laughed that i felt like a relationship.. but going forward i will reach out to her first.. esp bc she has been so good !

That's great that you had the conversation with your SA and are on the same page. I haven't bought anything online as I do try to keep it all with my SA since they say every little bit helps. Hope you continue to have many more years of great H shopping with your SA. Looking forward to seeing more pics of acquisitions!

Totally agree! :) open conversation with SA, to me, I think it’s a must. I haven’t bought anything online either or if I want something that I see, I text my SA. Correct me if I’m wrong, I heard that they do get comm on things except B/K/C?

yep! i def keep all the major purchases.. but i guess i didnt even think much about the little trinkets like scarf/ twilly rings
i swear, i thought i've asked her about a scarf ring in the past and i thought she had said she couldnt order something for me bc of price point? (being too low).. i could have misheard.. any way things are fine now but what a funny story right? as if there isnt enough going on in life, we have relationship goal conversations w our SAs
but in the end i apprecaited that she reached out.

SMs have been known to ask their SAs “why is Susan buying xyz online?”

I would've felt totally busted too. Lol. I understand how you felt about the smaller items, and used to think the same but my SA has been great about sourcing things. And if it's something smaller I usually ask her to order it (if they don't have it) when I'm there to make a larger purchase and have it just shipped to me. But I hear you, we have to manage relationships with spouses, kids, friends, co-workers and SA's on top of that?!? Good grief....

Oh wow, good to know! My SA has days off and things are fast to go on the site so after a couple of times of them telling me buy it on the site, I stopped asking unless it's a bigger purchase. I figured it was such a hassle to check store supply and do charge send etc so I stopped asking for small things.

Because a “cheat return” is even worse than a “cheat purchase.” Makes you look not only disloyal but also flaky. (Hermes’ POV, don’t shoot the messenger :panic: )

Seems so unfair though... it's hard to know what something looks like online. :(
