I wonder what proportion of Hermes customers use social media, this site included!
If you use a computer it very difficult to avoid some exposure to it.
Contrary to what seems to be popular opinion, not everyone uses or looks at Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook or the like.
How can anyone with any sense of personal style or self-respect allow 'influencers' to make their purchasing decisions for them.

This is a great point. I don’t have social media, but as an internet user it’s not like we can avoid it all ;)

Also I suppose here counts as social media but I feel very differently about it. :)

That is a very good point, but we have to accept that all the threads about shopping, trends, showing latest acquisitions and the like, on an internet forum is an example of social media.
Like you, I do feel differently about until I think about it; then it's, 'Whoops I've contributed to something I am decrying.'

May I offer that some of it feeling different is that this forum is Somewhat anonymous and therefore less less look at me. We aren’t cultivating followings or selling anything. We are talking about things we enjoy and buy etc, but it has a different feeling than Instagram. I am not sure I’m capturing the what I mean exactly. But yes, we are into our stuff ;)

I think everyone uses social media for different reasons. Like for myself, i do not post pics of myself, it works more like my photo album. Pics are posted for memory sake and to write a caption to remember what happened. I post pics of my travels, food that i had and enjoyed, 1 or 2 unboxing (only those that i received as present for my hub for a purpose) and mainly just about my daughter’s growth and progress. And just like on this forum, this is a form of social media as well and to say posting videos of unboxing is to show off then what about those who post about their offers here... I think there are always different reason why people uses social media.

In such a time like this, I don’t go window shopping at Hermes, as most items are not available, not shown or not even displayed. So social media and this forum usually gives me some idea on what’s new and what is of interest to me and then i will do my own research and reach out to my SA to express interest. Where i am from, even RTW are now snatched up on day of launch and your SA may not even inform you when items are launched so if you are not savvy and don’t check social media, it is hard to even get any items. So i think it’s really silly for Hermes to not want people to post on social media as i think it helped boost their sales one way or another. But having said that, recently i read a lot of people posting on IG and some other similar apps that their SA stopped them from posting as people will use their pics to ask for items even if it is just a scarf as it is getting really competitive.

Hi!
This might be a bit out of social media topic. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m fairly new to the H journey. I started out last October when we went to Paris for my bday. Granted, I was lucky enough to get offered Constance 24 gold GHW at FSH.

Since we’ve been back to NYC and starting to building up our profile/rapport here, at first we were at Madison Ave. we shopped there 3 times and 3 different SAs. We were trying to find the right SA that we can connect with but unfortunately it didn’t go as plan.

Then we decided to give it a shot at MP downtown (we live close by Madison). We hit it off with our SA there and she is now our go-to SA. She’s been wonderfully sweet and helpful.

For January alone, we saw her 4 times and got everything that we asked for.
(Minus my wishlist lol I’m still waiting for it)

Then Yesterday, she literally asked my DH about his name on the passport. She said her SM wants to match it with all our purchases that we made overseas. She said she can’t see it but her manager can pull up all transactions. Is this normal?

I thought US stores can’t see any transactions from EU or other countries??

And also, might sound stupid but when or how should I ask her about my wishlist? I know I can wait but I just wonder if it will take us a year or sooner.

thank you so much for your time!!!

I new to Hermes and only have a few purchases under my belt, but I have to say this no socials rule is welcome news. I have been in love with the Hermes Kelly bag since I was a pre-teen and worked hard to be in a place to start this journey towards this bag. This bag is about love, craftsmanship, and celebration. When I see influencers and social media posts cheapening these bags and experience it makes me sad. I have had days where I have asked myself if I wanted to pursue a bag because I don’t like social media and I don’t ever want to be associated with owning this bag to show others I own it. I love taking photos, which I share with my friends and family personally and I like it to be known that what I’m sharing is because I want to share it with those people and not with the world. I didn’t order x food to demonstrate I can, or fly to x place to show I can, and I certainly won’t buy a bag to show I can. The bag shouldn’t be about showing it off in the way social media does sometimes. (Yes I know I am generalising-you get the gist-exceptions to everything)

I love the quiet luxury of Hermes which has always had a lure to me. Quiet, respectful, quality.

I am still in my journey and one lucky day I will too take pictures-but for me.

Glad to see some push to reject social media. Too many people doing it for the gram if you will.
I really like what you said, “the quiet luxury of Hermès.” I think it’s intrinsically quiet but social media made it very loud. A few weeks ago I saw a lady carrying a birkin 25 in black croc. I had to look twice. I was discreet and I am glad I had my sunglasses on, but in my head, I was screaming …. “Whoa ….. what a gorgeous bag!!!!” So H doesn’t scream logos but it is certainly a statement to others who are familiar with the brand. Just wanted to acknowledge you and validate what you’re saying

Completely in similar situation and doing the same.

Exactly!!!!!! I am glad you had the guts to spell it out. “How can anyone with any sense of personal style or self-respect allow ‘influencers’ to make their purchasing decisions for them?” Well, I would start with the premise that personal style and self-esteem might be lacking in those instances. If people don’t know who they are and if they don’t appreciate themselves for who they are, they need to use some sort of external metrics to gauge where they stand in relation to others and in relation to themselves. The internal compass of self-knowledge and self-esteem need to be calibrated because they are constantly allowing others to influence them in several aspects of their lives. That’s why fashion became “fast fashion.” In my humble opinion, people are so darn lost that they need to consume other people’ views and takes in life in order to fit in the cultural background and to find a purpose or a sense of self. If people were grounded in who they are influencers would be bankrupt by now. But they thrive on people’s lack of self-knowledge. And honestly, influencers are just a new “job title” for what society has been doing to people for years. They just create new versions of it. You had great insight

Haha….today I went to the shopping mall where my store is. Saw a b25 shadow in Nata. Would have thought it was a cheap knock off if I had not seen it on social media and knew of its existence.

Can I ask why?
My first impression of Hermes is given to my by a friend, who told me that “Hermes will only show you the bag they allow you to buy after you shown them your purchasing power by buying other things”.

Unfortunately, Hermes is not at the level for me to allow myself impulse buys like other brands. I do like to research on stuff before I decide to get them and with social media, there is more information than ever.

I agree that the biggest headache social media is currently causing at the SA/store level (there's a completely separate point to be made for what they are doing to the Hermes brand or at the corporate level) is people seeing those posts, figuring out which store/SA that is, then going in with screenshots of those posts demanding the bag (or other item), asking "why did you give it to that person and not me". I personally have witnessed something like this, it probably happens a lot more than some would think. It's actually incredibly hard IMO to keep things completely anonymous and not give out any clues about one's real life online. And yeah scarily there are people who are that dedicated/crazy about Hermes bags that they will dig deep through your entire social media history looking for hints to figure things out.

I wonder if the inconsistency (for any guidelines on taking photos with identifiable information and posting them on public social media) is a reflection of whether the store/SA has experienced cases of other customers coming in with said posts and demanding bags. I do know that this is not just in Asia; one US store at least had some SAs advise customers to be careful about posting on social media (although I don't think it was a strict ban).

Yes, that’s the crazy part about it that I knew and didn’t want to make things difficult for my SA. So, I understood why she doesn’t allow me to take photos or video. No biggie for me, yet I understand some people would love to do that at the special moment of being offered their dream bag.
