Asia. Not talking about influencers…just normal people who are active on social media.

well, if there is Low or no pre spend, then nothing to compare. Lol….

In Asia ppl are going at above 1:1….even 1:2, 1:3.

I'm in Asia and my SA asked the same thing.
SA said I can take video or photo of the unboxing in store private room but preferred not to post on social media and she also asked me to censored her or the store if I did post it, otherwise they're in trouble.

From what I checked with friends, each store has different pre-spend ratio, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3.
The smaller the bag, the higher pre-spend.

Exactly, so they don’t like customers to compare.

My SA doesn’t allow even photos.

Do you mean photos of bags or generally any types of photos in the store?

I always ask if I can take a photo if I see something nice but might want to think about such as fine jewlery or watches. I do not post those on any social media though (don´t have social media accounts apart from tpf).

No photos of quota bag

Yup. Coz she said people will tend to compare pre spend ratios, bag specs, etc….
If found to be posting anything, no more bags in future. Management like customers to be low profile.
I think this sounds like a much needed directive.
The brand to my mind has been somewhat 'cheapened' by all the breathy excited 'unboxings' by wannabe influencers.
Also there is probably some awareness that people who buy and then post on their youtube or instagram profiles 'sharing their experience/journey/etc are probably more likely to flip quickly and resell the bags than those of us who buy for personal enjoyment.

Personally, I don’t mind no photos, no posting on social media. I mean just out of respect and not making things difficult for my SA.

however, I do see why some people would what to record a very special moment in their lives. It’s mot everyday someone is being offered a birkin or Kelly. The bag is not free as well.

Some SAs will send out photos of quota bags, some will not. There doesn't seem to be a hard/fast rule; it's subjective in my experience.

For me personally, I would not and do not post anything that I purchase - including Hermes - on social media. I love to share with my girlfriends, privately, but I do not love to share with the world. I don't need the validation and sometimes the attention is not positive. ;)

I look at it as... I like to share my loved ONES, not my loved THINGS.

There’s a difference between keeping a record for personal reasons and blasting it all over social media. I suspect they don’t mind the former; it’s the latter where they take issue.

When I tried to take photos in the private room during my friend's appointment (not at my home store), to get a record of her special day, I was lectured for a good 3 minutes by the SA who actually got quite heated. Not pleasant and seemed over the top to me, a simple "please don't take photos" or "please don't share that photo" would have sufficed.

I mean, social media displays aren’t my thing but it’s a joyful purchase. I understand regulating photos of employees or those taken in store or of unpurchased merchandise but the idea that a company (or a SA) can tell you what to do with their products and how to behave after you have purchased the item is crazytown to me. Especially when the policy isn’t consistent.

This seems to be very different to the approach in Europe where H seems to favour influencers. There are quite a few that are regularly offered bags with almost no pre-spend. Tamara is one example regularly seen on Instagram posts with Michael Coates. Xenia Adonts and Claire Chanelle are others (the latter being a known reseller!)

Are you based in Asia or Australia? I remember all the drama with Purseonfleek where her videos killed her H relationship!
I think there are different categories of costumers. The influencers get rooftop lunches and the cosmetics send in full. They promote the brand and picked by the brand. Then there are people who monetize the brand by showing what they bought online. And there are people who buy for the craftsmanship, wear what they love and do not monetize what they wear.

It is a bit skewed to name a bunch of influencers without extra info. Tamara has a lot of bags but they are also bought by her boyfriend and she buys second hand. If that is your way to go, you can get as much bags as you want per year. Xenia has a couple of bags but I do not see her buying an unreasonable amount . Purseonfleek never had a good relationship to begin with. I don't know if the influencers are more favoured or that it seems that way because they are more visible.

My store is really small. There’s a desk with chairs for consultation and that’s that. Unboxing is either on that desk or near some SLG display case. No private room, no pomp to encourage recording of a special moment. I love my store for it.

PS: maybe I am a plebeian in my store and there’s a private room I don’t know about but doesn’t look like it. I should start buying RTW to see if there’s even a changing room :hrmm:

I new to Hermes and only have a few purchases under my belt, but I have to say this no socials rule is welcome news. I have been in love with the Hermes Kelly bag since I was a pre-teen and worked hard to be in a place to start this journey towards this bag. This bag is about love, craftsmanship, and celebration. When I see influencers and social media posts cheapening these bags and experience it makes me sad. I have had days where I have asked myself if I wanted to pursue a bag because I don’t like social media and I don’t ever want to be associated with owning this bag to show others I own it. I love taking photos, which I share with my friends and family personally and I like it to be known that what I’m sharing is because I want to share it with those people and not with the world. I didn’t order x food to demonstrate I can, or fly to x place to show I can, and I certainly won’t buy a bag to show I can. The bag shouldn’t be about showing it off in the way social media does sometimes. (Yes I know I am generalising-you get the gist-exceptions to everything)

I love the quiet luxury of Hermes which has always had a lure to me. Quiet, respectful, quality.

I am still in my journey and one lucky day I will too take pictures-but for me.

Glad to see some push to reject social media. Too many people doing it for the gram if you will.
