Hi everyone! I’m a newbie here with just one H purchase (loafer pumps). The SA I worked with for my first purchase my first time into the store was ok. Not particularly friendly, but was the only one that paid attention to me when I walked in browsing haha. Second time around, she wasn’t there, there was another SA there who was incredibly friendly and I liked her a lot. I didn’t buy anything the second time because my first SA wasn’t there. Is it bad to switch SAs after one purchase? Would my first purchase be “worthless” in getting a quota bag?

I would use the SA you click with more. Shopping should be a joyful experience. Technically, you aren't considered "their" client until you have sought the same SA out twice and purchased from them, so there is definitely no obligation for you to need to return to the first. At least this is how it works in my home boutique. Happy shopping!

You would hardly have been 'switching SA' if you have only shopped with the first SA once;
as she wasn't there on your second visit, you could have shopped with a second SA that you liked more, but you didn't.
You need to shop, without thinking, 'This is Hermes. I must throw all my instincts out of the window. I must question everything I say or do and hope to get approval.'
Don't allow yourself to get so obsessed with getting a quota bag at this stage.

thank you @luckylove and @WhiteBus for your suggestions; I really appreciate it! I guess I'm nervous because I may be able to make one purchase every month or two months. I didn't want the first purchase to somehow not count towards eventually getting a quota bag a year or two or however long down the line

Totally understand the nervousness as I felt this way 6 months ago when I started shopping at hermes too. If you haven’t already yet - reading through this thread has really helped me. From my experience so far - “not overthinking it” is so key.

I was still nervous when I went in last week for my third visit. My convo with my SA felt awkward at first since that was only my second time seeing him (he was not there during my second visit) but we just carried on and checked out the items I was interested in and after about an hour he brought up a big box and offered me a birkin! I didn’t go into the store expecting a bag this trip, and even though I had to turn down the offer (it wasn’t the color I loved), it was the best trip I’ve had - just knowing I could be myself (with awkwardness and all:graucho:), not having to hint at or ask for the bag on my wishlist, and still got offered one.

Enjoy the experience!

I agree with the others who commented that, at this point, you are no one's client with one purchase. Additionally, loafers are not expensive, so I would not sweat this purchase as it pertains to your history and eventually being offered a quota bag. Had you purchased housewares or fine jewelry, the conversation could be different.

Also worth mentioning - don't overthink this. Just enjoy, especially if you find an SA that you click with.

Thank you both for responding!

@lishukha that's such a great story and thank you for sharing! It must have been so exciting to have been offered a bag (even if it's one you had to decline)--on the third visit too! Would you mind me asking if, by your third visit, your spending ratio was very high? Please don't feel obligated to respond.

@jenaywins Thank you! It's definitely good to keep in mind the "fun" element! Starting off at H stores can be daunting. I keep overthinking when/how to make my next purchase and what to buy. I would like to add to my collection some plates, pillows, and throws.

I would work with the one you like. Took me a year with no dedicated SA and when I finally found one I click with, it went gangbusters. You'll get better service and transparency with someone that you can reciprocate the relationship with and treat as a peer.

The SA that assisted my when I made my first purchase was polite and helpful with my purchases that day, but didn't put any effort in trying to see if I could possibly be a long term client. The second I paid, she turned away and started chatting with another SA.

My next visit, I did not ask for her and was assigned someone else who was so much friendlier, and interested in what I was there for. She asked what items I was looking for and we discussed my color palette, style, etc. At the end of the appointment she asked to trade phone numbers.

I wouldn't worry about your first purchase possibly not counting towards a quota bag. I would stick to an SA that is helpful and friendly and you click with.

Yup. Coz she said people will tend to compare pre spend ratios, bag specs, etc….
If found to be posting anything, no more bags in future. Management like customers to be low profile.

This seems to be very different to the approach in Europe where H seems to favour influencers. There are quite a few that are regularly offered bags with almost no pre-spend. Tamara is one example regularly seen on Instagram posts with Michael Coates. Xenia Adonts and Claire Chanelle are others (the latter being a known reseller!)

Are you based in Asia or Australia? I remember all the drama with Purseonfleek where her videos killed her H relationship!

Asia. Not talking about influencers…just normal people who are active on social media.

well, if there is Low or no pre spend, then nothing to compare. Lol….

In Asia ppl are going at above 1:1….even 1:2, 1:3.
