For advice on how to shop at your local store please do a search in Hermes Shopping sub-forum and look for your store/region/country.

I have my first appointment coming up at the Hermes store. My ultimate goal is getting a Birkin 30 togo in a neutral color.
I am also looking forward to seeing and buying a few things. Hoping to build my spending history and I am okay to wait and just enjoy this journey. My question is, when will be a good time to bring up the conversation of putting my wishlist together with an SA? A lot of people say not at the first visit but what if she says something along the lines of “do you have anything else in mind or is there something else I can help you with?” While others say, let your SA know as soon as possible (?). I’m thinking that there are no real answers to this as it depends on how my first visit will go but I can’t help but wonder, what ifs. Maybe it’s better not to ask since there’s a shortage in bags, anyway? Or ask just in case there is that chance depending on the stores circumstances that day? I do plan to make another visit before the end of the year as well.

Any advice or suggestion is very much appreciated!
Thank you

my advice is,
Go to your appointment and follow your instincts.
Go with the flow-This is not a job interview ,you are going as a client hoping to spend hard cash with your allocated SA.
If getting a B30 is your ultimate goal I personally (and this is just what I would chose to do...You follow your gut) WOULD bring it up perhaps towards the end of your appointment once you've made your selections and are about to pay.
I always think honesty is the best policy and a healthy way to start your client/sa relationship.
Then she or he will know where you are coming from and I'm sure they will appreciate honesty and openness over 'game playing'

Be honest - an SA would respect that more thinking:
'I bet she wants a quota bag'
AND THEN
'I wonder how much I can get out of her before she brings it up?'

and don't try to be clever by second-guessing what you think your SA wants to hear or wants you to do
I wonder if some SA have sweepstake to see how much they can get out of gullible shoppers.
Good luck to them!

Just be yourself & see where the conversation takes you.. Being candid is what SA's respect..
No games, no nonsense, no tricks.. just share your wish list once you get to that comfortable
place

I would like to share my personal experience. I am quite new to the Hermès game as well. I have been purchasing different items here and there, including shoes, RTW and homeware.

My SA gave her number to me during my third appointment with her. I think that's a positive sign that she now considers me to be one of her "more regular/important" clients. It just happens naturally.

I did not bring up my wishlist (b/k) until my fourth appointment with my SA. By then my purchase history is over 1:1 spend. I just asked her if it's a good time to put in my wishlist and she immediately said yes we should put that in asap. She went over my preference with me very thoroughly (like a 10 min private chat) and took down notes and put it on my profile.

I know that an offer has to be approved by the manager even if the SA recommends you. And a good purchase history would definitely help.

Based on my experience, I would say that put in your wishlist when you are close to the 1:1 spend (unless your store is not very competitive, mind you that I am in Canada and it's very competitive here). Or, just ask in person casually and your SA response will tell you whether you are there yet. It's a two way conversation! Good luck!

Thank you all so much for your advice and tips! I’ll be sure to report back after my appointment and let everyone know how it goes. And hopefully I can help newbies out someday too with suggestions. I think what I’ll do is see and feel things out. I have to remind myself that hey, I am a customer and going into this journey takes two. I’m hoping for a good working relationship with my soon to be SA more than anything else. Please send good vibes my way :)

Hi everyone - looking for your advice. Where I live, we only get 1 quota bag per year. My one-year anniversary since my last (and my first) quota bag passed in August, and we are now nearing the end of the fiscal year. My SA asked me for my wishlist in June (specifically asking me what bags I was interested in for this year), but we have not spoken specifically about it since then. We have messaged, about other items I’d like to order, and I have visited the boutique a few times (despite living 3 hours away, in a different city). I understand that there is a bag shortage at this time, and I don’t want to bug him (I assume he isn’t mentioning my wishlist because there is no news to relay). My question is, should I bring it up when I see him next (in early November) as a simple query since the year is nearly over? I have friends who shop in the same boutique (from different SAs) and they have all asked their SAs about the chances of getting a bag this year, and have all been told “it’s hard to say.” Does the squeaky wheel get the grease in these circumstances, or do SAs prefer clients who give their wishlist and then patiently wait? TIA!

SAs are human
all humans are unique
all humans respond differently
you cannot expect the behaviour of your SA to be the same as others

Has it been your experience that you have always got a quota bag each year?
If so, it would not be unreasonable for you to assume that you will get a quota bag.
NOR is it unreasonable for you to ask your SA directly when you next meet - I would avoid the ubiquitous text.

Contrary to what you might think, the majority of Hermes customers do go into the boutiques frequently.
Your SA will understand your visiting constraints and will understand, as a customer who buys quota bags that you will have questions about supply at this time.

Just be honest.

Thank you, this is helpful. I will speak to my SA in person when I see them next. Thx!

IMO, a B30 in neutral color is very doable, but bc of stock shortages (there are threads discussing this specifically), nothing may happen this year. So long as your SA feels you will be a strong regular customer who won’t disappear once you get your bag; isnt High maintenance; and, who doesn’t expect instant gratification or anything unreasonable, you should be fine! Pls keep us posted and good luck! Forgot to say, only buy what you love, otherwise there is no point :)

Thank you so much for your advice! This makes me feel so much better as it gives me hope that it’s possible. And everything you mentioned is who I am — not in any rush, will love to gain a long lasting relationship with my SA and definitely not high maintenance :)
When I bring up my wishlist or if I do during my first visit, I’ll make sure to let her know I’ll wait as long as it takes.

I will come back to update everyone after my appointment!

Good idea, but don't let her think that you will be continuing to spend thousands and thousands for as long as it takes!

Oh yikes! How would I word it in a way that I’m okay to wait for the bag I want without spending too much?

:/
Again-be honest.
You could say for instance "I'm never going to be your biggest spender" or..."I have a relatively limited budget but intend to be a long-term loyal customer-I'm not in a rush for a quota bag However that is a long term goal" something Like that..
