You said you have bought little things here and there after you made your B30 request. How much have spent? How much did you spend with him prior to buying your Lindy?

Certainly, they are happier if you buy in stock, but my experience has been they are also happy to get things for you as well IF you buy it when it arrives. Unless you have made prior arrangements. Your SA spends a certain amount of professional “coin” to get things—convincing the SM, bothering the stock manager, calling all over and the swapping she or he has to do to get the thing you want with whatever thing the other store wants in exchange. And— if he or she calls in a personal favor with a pal in another store to get you what you want by your appointment date and you don’t buy it and now the store is stuck with it, that’s probably the last time your SA will bother. So the bottom line is that if you have an SA willing to get things, be very respectful of that and clear about whether you’d just like them to tag an item that happens to come in because you‘re not sure and want to try it, or that you absolutely want an item and will take it if she/he goes all out and acquires it for you.
Ugh. I did this once and still feel guilty about it. I knew it was not good to do, but my husband balked at the purchase (a gold necklace) because he didn't like the design enough for the price. He is not usually so involved in my purchases but it was supposed to be a birthday present. Anyway, it didn't seem to harm my relationship with her, I have since been offered a kelly and an SO (both of which I took), but I know my SA will be reluctant to bring in big items from other stores for me in the future!

Does anyone know if we can take gifts to our SAs right now?(during covid) like if I took them boxed/sealed chocolates or something of that nature, would that be acceptable? I want to show my appreciation to my SA and her asst manager for working to get me my first birkin/dream bag in the best of specs. I want to take them something the next time I go in to pick up my other items she’s ordering me.

Why don't you have them sent/delivered instead?

I believe SAs are only allowed to receive edible gifts. I tried to send my SA a houseplant during lockdown and she let me know this wasn't allowed (even though it was an herb and therefore technically edible...)
Oh wow! Thank you for the heads up! I guess boxed chocolates will do, I want them to know I appreciate all their efforts.

Gold with GHW is one of the most popular combos.
Have you spent close to 1:1 within a year? If not, you may be waiting a v long time compared to those who spend this amount in a year.

yes, definitely have... and i didn't get any other offers or the SA didn't offer up anything else... just curious does my spending history ever expire? i.e. if i don't purchase anything from now, will it expire in a couple months and it gives further consideration for my SA not to give me what i want now? i'm just so torn here.

Hello you Guys I am new here. First of all, is here anyone from Luxembourg? If yes, please write me! :-)

I have some questions:

-1. what is the “spending 1:1 ratio” - what does this mean?

-The next one is a bit longer: so, I have been a Hermès shopper for like 20 years, since my teens - first only small bits here and there on airports, then my first Birkin 35 when I closed a huge deal, via our firm’s connections with a London store. I never bought too much at H and it was always erratic - so far! . That is to say, I never knew that there is such a thing as store and SA loyalty, and I wasn’t even “on the books” at a hermès, so my purchases were not registered until about a year ago - what an amateur, right? (I always said I didn’t want to be registered because I don’t like people keeping data of my purchases). Then, I only faced this whole thing when I serviced my old-old birkin during a visit to Paris because I decided to sell it and buy something that suits my current lifestyle more (something smaller and less heavy than a B35!). Anyways, long story short, we now live in Luxembourg and the store people are just not kind at all there! I keep buying (small things but many) and then also asking about B-s and K-s and the answer is that it takes several years or that the wishlist “isn’t open”, I mean, wth? Can it be because I still haven’t bought loads of other stuff there? thanks for answers and tips :-) I would really love to get my hands on a baby b

To answer your question, the 1:1 ratio means that if you want a $12k Birkin, that it usually will not be offered until you buy $12k of other items such as jewelry, clothing, other handbags, etc.

Your history matters. One time I visited A store in NY and has a great conversation with an SA. This was before I knew about the whole relationship thing. So I looked at some bags for the wife and also mentioned that her birthday was coming up and that she had always wanted a Birkin. This store gets great inventory so the SA said he could have a Birkin for me by the following week. He then looked up my name and I only had a few small things like ties and a wallet. He comes over and says “There is a problem. Our system isn’t showing that you buy anything from Hermes”. At the time, we bought our Hermes items from a non-Hermes store in Connecticut that carried Hermes items so all of our history didn’t show up in Hermes’ systems. The offer of a Birkin for her birthday immediately disappeared and it soured me to the store and SA all together.

Fast forward a couple years and Hermes opened a boutique in Connecticut. We walked in and bought an Evelyne for the wife. Wife was carrying her Lindy bag and the SA says “That bag isn’t showing up in our system. Did you happen to buy it at the store down the street?” The answer was yes and she says to me “Thank you and I hope that your wife loves her Evelyne bag. If you need ANYTHING in the future, please let me know. Here is my card”

She helped us get that Birkin for the wife’s birthday and has helped us with many bags since. A few days ago, we walked back into the NYC store that I had sworn off, and a lovely SA was assigned to us. She looked up my name because we asked for a Constance bag and she told me essentially every quota bag that they had in stock in case we wanted one.

Long store short, history matters.

Has anyone just straight up tried saying to an SA -“ I’m willing to buy x amount in jewelry if I can ensure I’ll get a B (state your preferred size and colors and leather).” And only make the purchase of jewelry if they say yes? I’m not willing to play games and be strung along by an SA, which I felt in the past I was. I’d rather just be as upfront as possible with my intention of wanting a B. This is in the US. Thanks.
love this approach! I am curious as to the response you’d get. I think this approach may even lead to long lasting relationship with the right SA.

I still believe with boutique sales quotas aside, that one of the main reasons stores in the US pay attention to history is to make sure that you aren’t asking for a quota bag to resell it. Thus if you’re willing to drop $10k on a bunch of items, chances are high that you love the brand and will hold onto the bag.

Yes, in Las Vegas.
And also in Hong Kong, at the airport. (Yes they have B/K's there.) They are very amenable to taking your money right then and there since there's no telling when's the next time you'll be back.
