Hi everyone, have a time sensitive question)))
I purchased a GP 36 online and have still few days before returning it – do you think I should return it and wait for my new SA to purchase it for me (to count as a store purchase and build a more current history of spending at H) as I am on a wishlist for Birkin ( I have a few quota bags from a few years ago but that was from another SA who no longer works at my local store
Do you think that for more desired bags, they hurt your journey to a QB because the SA/SM feels like they've done you a favor already? Thanks!
This totally depends on your store. My SA doesn’t care if I buy bags online because stock is so limited. My store had a policy for a period of time that a desirable non wish list bag would delay a wishlist bag. Now the policy has changed again. It keeps changing as supply and other practices changes.

Do you openly ask what the policy is? I'm nervous to ask this as I don't want to sound desperate

And it's so hard to determine what's a "desired bag"! GP36? In the loop 18? Evie TPM? Men's Hac a dos? :)

My SA indirectly told me “yes”’. At least this was the case last Oct at our local store.

This topic came about bc SA offered me a mini Lindy, which isn’t a bag I ever requested. She was quite surprised that I passed on the offer. She wanted to make sure I wouldn’t regret it bc it’s a coveted bag that’s hard to come by at our store. She was almost sure I’d liked it, as I’ve asked for a k25 in similar color.

Out of curiosity I asked her if an acceptance would hurt chances of getting a k25 by end of year. She confirmed that it would, bc there simply aren’t that many bags coming in to make everyone happy. She asked me if k25 is THE bag I most desired, which I confirmed.

A month later I received my k25.

I definitely asked. To me, part of the relationship building is getting to know me as well - a person that asks questions.

I got offered a constance, definitely a desired bag, last July. I asked my sa if me accepting the constance would slow the process of me getting b and she said no. HOWEVER, the constance that I got offered was an exact match to my wishlist and as of today I still haven’t been offered a b. So I personally don’t know if it did or didn’t. I just know I haven’t gotten a b offer yet lol.

Of course accepting another bag, even if a quasi-QB (that's what I'm calling these other desirable bags ), will delay offering of the next bag. How can it not. Assuming all else being equal (spend, ec.), a bag matching yours and someone else's specs come in, you've just got a quasi-QB recently and this other person hasn't had a bag offer in a year, who do you think the bag is going to? Unless your specs come in and no one else wants it, but highly unlikely in this day and age.

But ultimately if this quasi-QB is something you truly love, then take the offer and be happy, QBs will come eventually. I was offered a KP in Jan, my SA knew it's something I wanted and grabbed me one before the price increase. I was so happy I did not hesitate taking it knowing that this puts my next QB a bit further out, but I'm more than fine with that.

@chibi12 , I am tagging you here since my lengthy reply re whether it’s not best practice to return an on line purchase to FSH for the dual purpose a VAT refund and for building an in store shopping profile is somewhat OT for the Paris FSH thread. This reply could also have gone in the thread unpopular H opinions. . .

Sorry I’m not sure I understand, why is it buyers remorse? The purpose for the return in this scenario is only to get tax refund, but I plan on keeping the items (especially since, like you said, you often cannot find the same items in the stores).

I am asking if it will detract from one’s store profile (as I hear it is viewed as such in the US) because I have a new SA relationship at FSH and don’t want them to be upset if I am purchasing items online that I cannot find in store.

The ideal situation — and what I am hoping to confirm — is whether doing so will build my Paris profile positively because it shows I am purchasing items I love

I’m sure any FSH SA will do it as part of their job and as a professional courtesy as per @San2222, so you should do whatever you would like to do. If you are concerned, simply ask your SA.

I hold the TPF minority viewpoint that any returns for other than clearly visible defect or unacceptable shop wear (that one was unable to ascertain in person prior to purchase) as buyers remorse. This is why I almost never purchase on line bc I don’t see the point of buying anything that I cannot inspect; try on; and, most importantly, get a knowledgeable second opinion from a professional who knows my taste and current closet, prior to purchase). If I shop on line, I place the order through my local SA as per his preference. All of my SAs appreciate my efforts, and bc I do spend time in other parts of the world, my local SAs have no issue whatsoever with my openly shopping NY, FSH, Manila, Singapore).

Clients who habitually return (I am not saying this is what you are doing but speaking generally) also contribute to the possibility that returned merchandise has an higher chance of another client refusing to accept due to some imagined microscopic defect. I also think that while it is part of every SAs job to process returns, it’s a complete waste of time. My opinion is definitely in the minority and against the viewpoints of most of TPF on this thread and elsewhere.

My FSH SA simply doesn’t care what I buy from her on each visit bc she told me FSH doesn’t have commission structure like the US. My relatively minimal FSH purchases (minimal shopping profile) have not impacted my offers (a K25 and K28 quadrille last year) at all. In addition, they did not impact my local NY offer of a B25 that I received in between the Ks, and I informed all of my SAs of my total QB purchases. I don’t have a wish list. I don’t generally ask for specific bags. My SAs offer what they think might work with my RTW (I’m primarily a RTW shopper). If I fall in love with something, that is in my price range and comfort zone, I buy it. HTH clarify my prior post in the Paris thresd.

I’m like you. I don’t buy things that’s online or that I can’t see and touch before deciding.

The bolded is exactly why I don’t understand why others don’t understand why returns are looked down on. We see it here all the time. “Oh no! Was this bag touched? It didn’t have a wrapper?” “Was this a return the ribbon is tied weird.” No mention of damage of the item at all.

And then there are those that keep items in their houses for the exact return date. Or those that order the same items online in different colors, touch, play with them, photograph them with their other items, etc to then return them.

Returns are looked down upon because THE moment an overly meticulous client suspects an item has been touched, not even damaged, the item is deemed less than in their eyes which makes it harder to sell.

Hi everyone,

I really appreciate everyone who responds here. So I have been shopping with my SA since late 2021. Like many I was offered a birkin with little spend (prior to that I had shopped at Hermes when I lived in Europe). I don’t live anywhere near a store (it’s a 6 hour drive and with 2 young kids it’s not an easy trip) so my SA has been generally great at ordering and sending me items with some imitative of my part to follow up. He has my wishlist and I have asked and reminded him of it. He has only told me stock is low which I understand. My spend in the last 6 months is about 1:1. I know that is not super high but I want to know if there is any hope to get an offer or should I just give up/slow down my spending since I’m a remote shopper and won’t be given priority? Is it okay to be direct and ask ‘is it bc I’m not coming in to the store’? I have bought across a few departments but there are a few areas I would still like to explore. While I always purchase what I want, there is no denying that they are partially motivated by the desire for another quota bag esp since the first one I was offered while I love and I’m so grateful to have is bright and I would love a neutral.

I guess I am feeling deflated and burnt out and wondering if I will get an offer anytime soon.

Thanks in advance for all your wise words and advice!
I got my first QB offer in April 2021 after about 7 months but since then not gotten a second QB offer despite a very healthy amount of spending and being local. My sense is that the wait for a second QB (for non VVIPs) is fundamentally much longer, at least at my store, which is not huge. Looking back, I don't regret any of my purchases, thankfully, but I also think that slowing down and getting comfortable with being patient might be the best "strategy ". I have also noticed that some of my preferences have evolved over time and experience with H products, so it's good to get that experience. That being said, I do think unfortunately that you need to show up in person from time to time, could you get there even once or twice a year? For me, all my bag offers, except for one, were a "surprise " at the end of my visit. That may just be my SAs style though, as others here on forum have different experiences.

I am looking to start my Hermes journey after many years of buying Chanel. I love to shop when I travel, both domestically and abroad and some may think that I am inpatient when it comes to being a consumer. If I would like to buy an item, I should be able to, right? All jokes aside here is where I am at.
$$ spend in Vegas 2019, $$$’s spend in Austin 2022 (close to 1:1 ratio in Austin)

History:
Vegas Bellagio. Nice trip, SA was nice, I would not say we had a real strong chemistry, but some was her personality. At] the end of my shopping trip, the SA provided me with her cell and told me to text when I was looking for something. I text a couple of times for items, on one occasion she told me she would order my item and would send me a link to pay, the link never arrived and other texts/requests went unanswered. I was not used to this type of service or some may say lack of, so I stopped texting.

Austin: The SA in Austin was really nice, but she knew I was from out of state and traveling on business, no contact information was exchanged.

Today:
I would like to establish a regular store and relationship with a SA for my desired items to ultimately be offered a quota bag. I am also planning a trip to Paris this Spring/Summer. What would you suggest for my future journey, back to Austin, Vegas or a new store? I am located in the SE and willing to have a store out of State for day trips if needed and I am in Vegas several times per year already.

Happy Hermes Shoppers: Where should I start my journey, what store has friendly SA’s for new shoppers?

Every store has friendly SAs for new shoppers depending on the circumstances. If you like H products across the board and are not interested in a BKC, you can shop anywhere. If you want to start a relationship with a particular SA, I would recommend shopping close to home, so you can visit a store frequently and gage for yourself whether you and an SA have any chemistry. By that, I don’t mean you have to be friends; rather, they have to understand and respect your aesthetic; your style; your shopping rhythm; and, your budget). And, I mean this seriously, vice versa. Your relationship will be better if you don’t treat your SA like a short order waitress, and get a dialogue of style recommendations flowing.

I don’t recommend buying anything from an SA you don’t like, or trying to ‘test’ a SA as some members here do. Even if it means forgoing specific product. SAs at Hermes prioritize in store shoppers, and they need to sell in store merchandise. They are not the best at electronic communication. In fact, at least until they know you, they famously go radio silent if they cannot source your request (like your experience above).*

This is because the average SA has to field hundreds of requests daily, and they often have no time to respond or take breaks. I started out trying to respect my SA’s time, and i limited initial texts to scheduling in person appts. Not asking for product that may or may not be in the store. New remote shoppers may also have a higher likelihood of returning merchandise, which is an additional headache. An SA will definitely prefer a client think about a purchase over several visits rather than buy hastily and then return.

I would read the Vegas, Austin, and Paris threads carefully. It’s my understanding that US stores, even vacation destinations like Vegas, are prioritizing local clientele. part of that might be that since Covid, supply of BKC dwindled and demand sky rocketed. It was not unheard of to spend 3X-5X (excluding popular leather) before obtaining a coveted bag offer. And, an SA has to get approval to offer the bag from his SM. That won’t happen unless he can convince his SM that you are a strong candidate over other similarly situated clients. So, unless you enjoy other products at the boutique, it may be best to go reseller. There isn’t a magic formula to developing an SA relationship. Except perhaps to visit regularly; spend generously; be polite, patient, and low maintenance. And, good things will eventually happen.

You should also read this thread, and any posts by @acrowcounted, including #7003

And, post 2506 (although it’s the San Fran thread, her advice is applicable throughout the US)

Within the US, I only shop with one SA in one boutique. As per his preference, he will also order items on line for me. The bulk of my purchases are coursed through him bc I prefer to get his opinion on my purchases. He has no problem with my shopping when I am abroad, but other TPFers who are more focused on BKC prefer to stick to one SA, one boutique. My main focus is RTW, as I have sufficient bags already. If you are fortunate enough to obtain a lottery appt at FSH, no prespend is required. But, there is no guarantee, even with an appt, that you will be offered a BKC.

*you mentioned that you are not used to this lack of electronic response to requests. At least until you develop a strong individual relationship, it tends to be the norm rather than the exception, so I would not take it personally.

This! One thousand times this! All of it, but especially the bolded text. I think good behavior goes a long way toward getting an offer. At least I feel it did in my case.

I am actually not local to my preferred store (I shop in Vegas one to two times per year, but live on the East Coast), so I don’t get the chance to visit regularly. However, I do occasionally order an item I want from my Vegas SA, or she offers to order items for me if I have put them on my wish list for more than one store visit and she did not have it. I lucked into this relationship; she was the only SA to offer me her contact information and she reached out after a (small) purchase to let me know she was available if I needed assistance. She knows I purchase the occasional small ticket item elsewhere and, when asked, she specifically told me to go ahead and purchase from another store since hers did not have stock. She told me during my last visit how much she appreciates that I send a list ahead of time so she can pull what I want (if the store has stock), or offer other items she thinks I might enjoy. When I was ready for my first QB, I broached the topic in person first. It wasn’t possible for that visit, but I was patient, not to mention specific about what I wanted, but with enough options that there was flexibility, and she was able to secure me a B30 four months later. My spend is not huge, maybe $3K-$5K per visit, but I am polite, friendly, not pushy, etc., and I think that goes a long way. Not just at H, but at any store, luxury or otherwise.

Thanks for your input! Yes I am planning on making a trip in the spring or summer this year! Good luck to us both!
