Something I like to think about when debating this topic- aren’t most luxury handbags handmade? If so isn’t every bag slightly different and that’s why we ask the SA to bring out two of the same bag. When you compare two of the exact same bag and one is MIF and the other is MII you don’t know what you’re getting. Maybe that day the MIF that happens to be in front of you is made by the worst artisan in that French factory while the MII is made by the best artisan in that Italian factory :lol::lol:

I used to be very much it has to be MIF because I’m paying so much for this bag. I live in the States and I was trying to get a LV PM when it had that egregious waiting list of 6/8 months/never gonna get it. I ended up reserving one at a LV boutique abroad while I was traveling and I told her it HAD to be MIF. Sure enough my SA got me a MIF but I noticed the monogram design was poorly aligned so I asked her if she had more. She brought 3 others out for me- two MIF and one MII. I literally could not believe my eyes I thought the MII was fake because the bag was aligned so freakishly perfectly. I even jokingly asked her if the bag was fake (don’t worry I’ve worked with her before, she laughed). I hummed and hawed because PMs were rare at that time particularly MIF PMs but in the end I realized I would much rather have a stunning MII bag than one that had poor craftsmanship no matter where it was made. Also, I don’t think it’s fair to overgeneralize to say that all made in ____ bags are better than made in _____ bags- particularly when it comes to France and Italy.

When you’re in the store you only have a couple to look at in front of you, so just pick the one you like and don’t pull your hair out about it!

Thank you!! I am literally pulling my hair out!!
My first one is made in France and this one is made in italy!! Everyone is saying “France” is better... so I don’t know. But, because it’s so new, I haven’t even really checked it out yet. I will do that this week. During day light!

I probably wrote this already in this thread but I can’t be sure as the thread is so long!
When I was buying my first Chanel - a black woc, caviar, ghw - I wanted a made in France as I thought it would be my only Chanel (so naive!). The SA brought out a made in France and the quilts were flat and the leather looked a little dull. I asked if they had any more, she said they didn’t. I contemplated it but told her I couldn’t buy it as I didn’t like the quilts. She then pulls out another woc (hmmmmmm) which was made in Italy. It was perfect and I bought it.

Thank you so much!! I keep debating. Have you ever purchased a chanel bag that is not local? The bag that I’m getting will be from a boutique in Vegas.

The bummer thing for me is.. there is such a long wait list the SA’s say they only got one in.
Plus, this bag is shipping from a boutique in Vegas. And I live in Oregon.

Aww don’t worry! Remember there’s no point in spending money on something if it stresses you out. Make sure you can ship it back if you aren’t happy with it and examine it carefully once you receive it. I hope you love the one you get and enjoy it in good health!

I recently did a phone order to my SA in Vegas. Although I love the bag that I received, I do wish I asked for pictures of it first. I highly recommend you going that route if you cannot see it in person.

Thank you so much. My first is a 2012 and was made in France. This new one is a 23 series and made in Italy. Both medium, double flap, caviar..

I can understand your feeling.
Chanel is a France brand and made in France bag makes it more special.

First i was disappointed also when they showed me the caviar classic bag and i notice it was made in Italy. This would be my first Chanel bag. But it had a flaw, i returned it and also the next bag the made in France bag i had to return due to a flaw. So at the end i didn't care much where it was made as long the bag was nice stitched and the leather shiny.
But you already have one made in France, so is fine, i think : ).
But if you want to exchange the new bag for a made in France, i can understand. You have to be happy with your bag, is a lot of money for the bag.

this is what I heard from my friend as well, she want her jumbo to be made in France so bad.
so I compared mine (made in France),and hers (made in Italy), the quilting on mine seems more puffier...
we both have classic flap in black caver with GHW, mine (m/L),her(jumbo)
But I think is more depend on the bag itself, than where is made from.
I have a similar experience - I went in store and checked out the Chanel M/L caviar in person and it was made in France, but it felt SO flimsy, like I couldn't believe how almost fake it felt. I later purchased a caviar Jumbo which was made in Italy, and the leather was way softer, less plasticky, the quilts were puffier, and overall it felt luxurious. I agree that it depends on the bag itself, as well as the season of the caviar.

You should definitely ask for photos! I think the general consensus is that the bag's quality varies not by where they are made but by the bag itself, so it couldn't hurt to get photos. I was really lucky in that I purchased my jumbo sight unseen from my personal shopper, it was all completely wrapped up from the factory so even she didn't want to take it out to take pics, but my caviar was perfect, no issues, quilts were puffy, and everything was just gorgeous. I don't think it works out like that every time.

I honestly am only thinking France because I’ve heard “only get it from France” but now.. I’m just so unsure. It’s just because once I open and use it, it will be mine. So I want to make sure I am happy... which honestly, I think I am. ☺️
