LV QUALITY CONTROL --- WHAT IS GOING ON??

WOW, I DID NOT KNOW THEY ARE ALL ON COMMISSION NOW. Really? They are all on commission? Wow.
I am not expecting bags to be absolutely perfect, but I am expecting them to be near perfect. Quality has to be up there for a luxury item. You wouldn't expect a five-star hotel having more bedbugs than a regular motel would you?
I am extremely careful with my items, to the point that I baby them, and yet they still turn defective (the favorite mm and the epi neverfull were both living in my closet, taken out fewer than 5 times each).
And finally, what I have observed is a declining in quality and quality control, based on my personal observations and experience. My quality standard has been constant over the years. My expectations have not changed. I have always had a very sharp eye for differences in pattern, straightness of things, that kind of stuff. And what I have observed is that new LV bags on a large scale are becoming less "done." The stitches, the glazing, the straightness of pattern, the evenniss of the canvas.... It is really a sad business.
They have been on commission for quite some time now. . . Bed bugs and a bag not up to par are two very different things. Really what I was saying is check your bags and if you are not happy return or move to a different designer. And as I stated they all have their share of issues. I don't particularly baby my bags but I am particular about all my things. Again I have been buying for quite a while and only had a problem twice. And I do know that if I do have a problem I WILL be taken care of. A lot more to my post than perfection. You need to do what you feel is right for you.

Yes, I do feel that it is time for me to move onto another designer. It is just quite sad because I don't really like anything else. Ever since I started collecting LV which was about 5 years ago I haven't had any crave for non-LV bags. I mean I do utility bags like Longchamp and Tumi, but LV was my love. It is just a little sad to see what once was a great thing go downhill like this.

Maybe step away a bit and revisit later down the line.

Stepping away from LV does not mean you have to force yourself to like something you don't or buy something you don't "crave". Enjoy the collection you have, and wait for when something else naturally sparks your eye. Maybe in a few years you will be ready to try LV again, or maybe you will have moved on.

So lets be real here – ALL designer bags have their share of quality issues whether Chanel, Hermes, Gucci. . .whatever. And ALL those designers have been through a period where stuff was just bad for a stretch. Honestly in my years of buying LV I have only had two issues with bags from LV and the problem was rectified immediately. Now I am not saying there are not problems because clearly there are but I also feel there is a false perception that a bag should be 100 percent perfect because we paid over a grand for it. Nothing absolutely nothing is perfect but we can ask for darn near perfect – I get that. I also know that the excitement of buying the bag takes over our senses to actually look over the bag before leaving the boutique. Now when ordering over the phone from a boutique unless you have an SA who really knows you and how you are when buying bags you are not going to get someone who actually tries to make sure the bag is darn near perfect for you. At the end of the day they are trying to make a sale and with them all on commission now believe me the sale is first and foremost. Ordering online yes there absolutely should be someone in a quality control type roll who is looking over the bag before shipping. Does this happen before something is shipped – maybe, maybe not. I have purchased online and in the boutique and have had a great experience with both. Will I generally buy a bag that has been on the shelf – NO. A bag that has sat in a drawer – sure if after I have looked over and it meets my standards. But honestly I have my SA order the bags I want to purchase from the warehouse and she will only let me know it is ready for pick up after she has looked it over. Then I look it over once I get to the boutique. Has there been a time when a bag arrived and my SA text me and says she is ordering another because I will not like the one that came – only twice. To give LV the benefit of the doubt some of the things are a little hard to detect upon first glance. Now bags for sure you need to make sure you inspect are the Neverfull and Speedy’s- these bags have been known to have something or the other wrong with them that one person or another may not like. These two bags there needs to be a few to look at to choose from. That has been that way for quite some years now and I believe that is due to the amount of them that are made. Yes do machine play a part – absolutely. When I hear someone state the bags are hand made I want to laugh because that is not true any longer. No possible way would LV be able to keep up with the demand if all of them were hand made and stitched. Now are there bags that are just prone to issues – sure but that’s when you do your research before buying and decide whether you want to take the chance or not. Some bags wear differently from others and not all of them are meant for daily heavy use. For instance I have a Pouchette Metis – have had it going on the third year and it is just fine (looks great actually) – where others have had problems. Am I saying I won’t have a problem – I do not know the answer to that but will cross that bridge when and if it happens. This was a bag that has had issues and I decided to take that chance. Also these bags are not indestructible just because you paid thousands none of them are and there will be wear just like anything else. You have to take care of them properly.

So with all that been said I think we need to be our own quality control. If a bag does not meet your standards return for a new one or choose something else or yes a different brand. Asking everyone else’s opinion on whether you should return something or not is useless – if the bag does not fit your standards of darn near perfection then it is what it is – no one else’s opinion is going to change that – right? Same goes for asking is this normal – what may be normal for someone else may not be normal for me. Only your opinion really matters at the end of the day. So does LV need to step it up sure maybe but I think we as buyers need to as well. . .
Well said.

The biggest concern about buying bags at LV used to be the availability (somehow stuff I like are always more limited). But nowadays, I HAVE TO inspect the bags in person, and to select one among few, if they even have any extra (they often don't for the stuff I want).

I just don't want to do it anymore. Who has that kind of time to go to store that often?

The problem is, I still have a lot of credits there.... The long list of activities y'all see on the main post was my quest of using up that credit, because I really want to be mentally done about it. But even with credit, I can't pick up anything I like that has decent quality. I had to convince my husband to get a bag and a wallet (trust me, he is not into this at all) to spend some of this credit. But I still have some left. I think I just have to wait. Maybe November/December there will be something unique to pick up... But I feel mentally drain and I shouldn't feel that way by shopping at my favorite bag place. So I think its time for me to move on....
Since day one I have always inspected the bags I buy. I have to be satisfied before I leave the boutique. Why wouldn't you do that?

There is definitely a very obvious decline in the workmanship and quality of LV bags that correlates to the significant increase in styles and collections and increased mass production. I have bags that are 10-25 years old that literally look like new. But last year I had melted glazing and discoloration on FIVE different Neverfulls two ikats, two epi and a Racing which only made it 4 months before having issues.

As a result I'm not interested in any new LV bags except a My World Tour Neverfull in GM. Then I'll stick to slgs and accessories. I've started spending most of my handbag money with Hermes and haven't had a single problem.

I am curious as to what you define as haute couture, as my understanding of it is custom, and hand constructed from start to finish. I don't think that has been the case for LV for any of our lifetimes or beyond. Sure, a select few clients in last few decades (and now) can still get "custom" products, but I still doubtful those "by hand start to finish" part. I have definitely never had any impression of LV as haute couture.
You are absolutely right about the hand made fact. This is not what I wanted to say. When I used the words "haute couture", I wanted to say high quality, care for details, all the little things that, for me, matter.
Hope to have clarified

I usually inspect, but there were times that pieces were so limited I had to have them ship right to my home (this was when I moved from my old boutique and haven't developed relationship with new boutique yet). And there were times that I thought I saw everything at the store just to find more problems when I got home. For pieces that the store only has one of, that's means more wait and potentially more disappointment.

Commission? Guess I'm late to learning this news. I have a good friend who has worked at LV in Scottsdale for 20 years. I'll have to ask her if their structure has changed and what she thinks about how LV has changed.

I just purchased a monogram Neverfull mm and guess what? One of the clasps is completely off. Shame on me for not doing a better job inspecting it[emoji20] or am I overreacting? I have attached some pictures.

I always inspect but sometimes there's only one or two of the same item and if both have quality issues, you have to go to another store or wait for them to order more. It is so annoying that we have to do this!

Before I started buying luxury bags I bought Kors, Fossil, lesportsac, etc...Nothing has cracked, or peeled or fallen apart. They're just collecting dust, sitting empty, no stuffing no dust covers. They look the same as when I first bought them. They're crappy bags but kind of indestructible. So why is it LV bags that cost well over a grand are falling apart and not made that well to begin with? I think they're getting away with making their bags as cheaply as possible to maximize profits. Until we stop buying and demanding better nothing will change.

I'd love to know is this quality issue world wide or does it target LV only MIU? I only have 1 item that's new, the DE clés made in summer 2017 MIF. It's perfect so far, only been in use for a month though.
