LV and the quality

im actually a little surprised that they would cut corners on a new/LE line. that is very disappointing and just reconfirming my decision to stay away from LV for a little, at least until they get their act together

i have never EVER - for the past 10 years or so of collecting - had any quality issues with LV

Good for you and that's how it should be. But do go check out the zippers on Roadster when you're in the boutique the next time, they feel like plastic. And today I just found out that the stitching on my new bag is not straight.

I just found out that one of the stitching on my new Damier Graphite bag is NOT STRAIGHT.

Did LV change their production to machine made bags?

anyways, if its handstitched like Hermes there'll definitely be, non straight or even skipped stitches, because well its human-crafted. and we arent perfect :D

i think it adds character.
i love the little skipped stitch on birkie.

so thats my conclusion,

i dont know if LV pulled a coach so . yeah :p

I'm not sure why people are taking the Dana Thomas book so seriously. I have and read this book. This is what I've read based on her facts and implications:

The regular LV bags (i.e., coated-canvas bags) are made by assembly line and machine in their factories. No secret there; we already know this. She criticizes how LV isn't handmade anymore, unlike Hermes, which has maintained its luxury status. However....

LV special orders and Suhali bags were not criticized by Thomas (because these kept their luxury form); rather, she seemed to look down on anything with logos/monogram on it (and that wasn't limited to other brands like Gucci, Fendi, etc).

It seemed implied that the outsourcing to China was mainly Gucci, Prada/Miu Miu, and Burberry...I didn't get the impression that she implied LV did it, too.

Thomas lauds Chanel No. 5 (a scent I'm not a big fan of) and Hermes Kellys/Birkins. She also praises Christian Louboutin, but I've read about people having problems with these shoes. As previous pfers mentioned, Chanel and Hermes are not perfect like Thomas says they are.

I think it's a good read, and it definitely gave some perspective in the luxury business, but I wouldn't take all of what she says close to heart. Besides, there were grammatical/spelling errors. :P

I agree with this - IMO, you have to take what is said in this book with a grain of salt, even though there are some very interesting points made in it.

In regards to the decrease in quality, it seems to be happening to EVERY designer brand, in my personal opinion - LV, Chanel, even Hermes. Sadly, I don't think you really get what you pay for anymore.

Yep! quality has gone WAY down! I have been a LV customer for 25 years and cannot get over the difference in quality. LV does offer more in various styles etc then they use to; however, their quality has suffered during this change. So sad too.

LV doesen't handstitch any of their bags, not runway bags, not canvas not anything, and hermes only does it to a select very few models. It's not really a secret at all and to be honest I don't think whether it's sewn by hand or not matters that much in terms of durability. It has its ups and downs and makes the products different but (handstitched can be easier to repair) the difference isen't that big.

If memory serves, if you go over to the Glass Slipper, there are tons of threads on issues with Louboutins! I was shocked!

That's what i'm thinking too... I'm finding it really hard to believe that they are actually getting cheaper materials for their items... Or at least i'm hoping.
Pasia, if you have some older Epi and Canvas bags, you can see, that the quality was really really better a few years ago!!
It's a big difference between Epi and Canvas from 5 or 6 years ago and the quality of today.
