LV and the quality

I was at the LV boutique store looking at the new Damier Graphite line. I really liked the Roadster duffle bag, but I noticed that the zipper pulls (especially the zipper for the outside pocket on the top of the bag) felt like they were made of PLASTIC. I have a Taiga Viktor messenger and it just happen to use the same style zipper, but the Viktor's zippers are metal (or at least it feels more solid than plastic). Is LV using cheaper/lesser quality materials (such as zippers/locks/etc)??? Has anyone noticed with other bags/leather goods? :confused1:

BTW, I didn't get the Roadster duffle, but I did pick up the Damier Graphite Keepall 55. :smile1:

Yes I do think their quality had been affected - we see more quality problems on TPF with new styles than ever before nowadays... I believe it has alot to do with LV trying to change their production techniques to meet a larger wider audience... it sees that LV is more about the money than the quality .. I feel even more strongly about this with all the price hikes happening ... If I pay more; I expect more and I don't expect quality issues.

I agree, I wonder whether the new bags we have today will still be around for vintage quality in years to come.......

I posted this a few days ago but I also don't think the styles are nice or as classy as they used to be.

I agree with this entirely after finding a human hair in my Inclusion Bracelet and dry glue/scratches on my Vernis Pochette Wallet within minutes of having them home. It's not good enough and certainly not what I'd expected from a company who places such an emphasis on pieces made of the highest quality. After reading about so many flaws and faults found on the newer style bags, I highly doubt these will make it to the 'vintage' stage, as we've seen with pieces produced in the 80s and 90s.

I think that it's also because they're trying to do so many new things with the bags. They're putting out items in way more materials than before and It's not possible that they have been through the testing of wear and tear of time that the older bags and materials have.

I agree! If I compare the quality of my older Epi bags with the Epi of "today" it's really a difference. The Canvas too! The older canvas was thicker and better quality! And the Lockit Suhali which I bought a few months ago was a desaster. I have written my experience with the Lockit on an other thread: "What's happening with the quality of the Suhali Lockit"?
I think LV produces to much for masses then for class and quality.

LV is a publicly owned company & the name of the game is the stock price. They have to keep making more products, more cheaply in order to make more profit for stockholders each quarter.

Result? It's a simple formula: More, Cheaper & Faster = worse quality.

There's a big difference between the Epi I purchased in the 80's in Paris and today's Epi. And the difference is NOT an improvement.

Sad.

I've never had a problem and the bags I have from the mid-90's are pretty solid. All the items I've purchased since are good too.

I have seen some folks with real problems with the bags not being constructed properly, I suppose there is always a % defect, but it always surprises me to read about.

unfortunately, i agree there seems to be a decline in quality. i wanted to get the damier graphite messenger but the hardware seems doubtful. i was thinking that it could be hard plastic too. now i am thinking to just get taiga viktor or another french brand. i cheated on LV yesterday and sneaked into H****s to ask about their range of bags. The H****s SA said definitely LV is losing its 'luxury' status because they are mass-producing and that many people 'upgrade' to H*****s because the quality is not compromised and even though you pay alot more for an H****s bag you get more WOW!
p/s don't get me wrong, still love LV, bought Graphite Porte Documents only recently.

It is sad.

The truth is that I have several Coach bags that have worn like iron. They still look great in spite of the fact that I am rather hard on bags. It will be interesting to see how my new LV wears and what it looks like a couple of years from now. Although, I see myself being kinder to the LV. :smile1:

Upgrading to Hermes is not an option for most people. (Why are there **** instead of the name?)
