Good grief Charlie Brown!
Speaking from my own experience and my personal collection, I'm extremely happy with the quality and craftmanship of each and every one of my LV products.

The only "problems" i've had with my LV is the hardware tarnishing, but that's normal with wear and tear. Apart from that, my Mum's first LV - a damier triana, the handles started to peel but once she pointed it out to a SA, they were replaced with no charge.

Like Cecilia said, you've really just got the inspect the bag when you purchase it. The service is more of a hit and miss than the quality of the bags IMO.

my mother has a bag that she has used like almost every other day for the last 6 years and although it def looks used there isnt a seam thats comming loose on it. I have always been one to vouch for the quality of LV but lately I have seen and heard things that I dont think I would have ever heard 7 or 8 years ago. I think since that brand has taken off in such a huge way the pressures of mass productions and ever increasing yields might definitely be getting to them. It might be time for a rethinking and a return to the simple. I wont say that the bags I have bought recently arent top notch, just saying I have seen some things that shouldnt have left the factory like that.

And, really a $300 price increase in 20 years, really isn't that bad...

I think LV quality is amazing. When I was looking at the mono speedy 25 in NYC, a lady put her bag on the counter next to me which was clearly a well loved speedy mono 25. She said, "this is what your bag is going to look like in 20 years." and went on to talk about how it was only $300 20 yrs ago. Anyway, any bag that can last that long and still be in style is amazing.

Ok, now I have a stupid question..is the mono speedy canvas really canvas or is it leather? It looks like leather, but they call it canvas. I was just wondering..I am really new at this and still trying to learn everything..thanks for the help.

I think anything you take care of well will last a long time. Although my tastes have changed, I have bags from years and years ago that aren't even high brand. It all goes down to the fact to whether you care for the item. The only difference I think between LV and other brands is that 10 years down the road the LV will still be a well known brand and classic. I agree with what someone posted about the quality and how they're churning stuff out quicker yet increasing prices. Why should I pay more for a decrease in quality when they make more profits now that they turn products out quicker? It's funny because I have a friend who works with all kinds of high end bags and he refers to the canvas as "pressed plastic canvas" which that's essentially what you're paying for. LV I'm sure makes plenty of profit by selling vast amounts of the now popular mono and therefor don't put as much care into making it with as much care. The cost of the bare materials I'm sure is well under 50 dollars if even that much which is mass produced canvas and vachetta and I believe the rest goes towards profits, labor, and upkeep of the brand.

I have 100% confidence in the quality of LV.....

I have seen them since I was 8 yrs old and they are the only ones that gets as much use yet still hold up.

Even though, I agree, that the quality isnt what it used to be...especially the service. I remember when they fixed the bags for free for the life of the bag....but I understand with the demand, this is no longer possible.

Compared with other designers...I think that LV is the best for the buck. I believe all designer bags are made really well but the test of time goes to LV like no other.

LV quality is excellent, depending on how you treat your bags, but I think it's the best brand I own. (I have purchased Coach and Dooney before) I think LV is overpriced, but with all luxury goods they're all overpriced...jeans, designer dresses, watches, etc.

LV's quality is good, but not superb as some have posted before me.

I own quite a few LV belts, and two of them are rather old: three and four years respectively. At any rate, the two belts in question have all the square steel buckle with a Louis Vuitton-Paris engraving. After many years of regular use, the buckles showed scratches, so I took the belts to the jeweller my family patronises to have them polished.

Some of you might now ask, why I did not bring the belts to LV? Very simple, I wanted to do that a few months ago, but the manager of my boutique said that LV outsourced that particular kind of touch-up to local jewellers.

The jeweller polished the buckles, but he told me afterwards, that in his opinion, the quality of the steel LV used is not the right one for a buckle. It is too delicate and does not touch-up well. He also said he was surprised that LV even used that kind of steel in the first place.

Remember, some LV bags even have plastic hardware!

What kind of steel did LV use?? Which one is the proper steel for a buckle?? Plastics are used for canvas/leather straps for adusting, is this what your referrring to??

Sorry, the jeweller did not mention any names or technical details, and the buckles have no signs that indicate the quality of the steel used.

As far as I remember LV uses plastic for the so-called "quick release fasteners" on some men's bags in the Damier and Damier Geant lines.
