Curious anyone have a piece sent in for "inspection" due to a defect? My SA thinks I will get a new one, she said they have to document the issue first for their records. We shall see hmmm. She said they wont send me a new one that when she calls they will have me come in to inspect a new item. So my question is do we have to replace it with the same item or can we choose something else?

You can choose something else. If you feel the option is not offered, feel free to tell your SA / the manager that you don't want the same item due to the issues in the first place. They don't care really, they just want to resolve the issue and move on.

LV's lack of quality has given my a great deal of stress in terms of time used to decide whether to do an exchange or return, time spent going to the store to deal with it, time printing out the labels to send the items back, etc. The disappointing feeling I get when the quality sucks compared to the price I paid. I do like most of their designs and materials used but the imperfections are not acceptable for what they are charging. Why can't they just throw out a finished product if they can see there is a problem with production, but still decide to sell it? Or do they even bother to check the finished product? They make enough profit and they don't want to waste that little bit of money but instead want to jeopardise their reputation. Even comparing my bags/slgs from contemporary designers, I can't find as much flaws with them, which is funny. I'm waiting on one more order but is most likely going to be the last one.

Louis Vuitton has not carried any warranty on their bags for over 20 years unfortunately.

This is a weird one. Sometimes I hear yes there is warranty, other times I hear no there is no warranty.

In any case, I sent an Emilie to get re-glazed for the third time in 12 months. I tried requesting for a new one as I was fed up with it but the repair specialist specifically said to me

"These items have a two year warranty, so we'll continue repairing for free for up to two years from date of purchase. Sometimes, we'll repair it free of charge even after the two years has past"

I don't know, I've seen some REALLY beat up bags. Sometimes I worry people try to justify the expensive purchase by saying that they last a lifetime. Its hard to tell though because you never know if one person was just really hard on their bag or if the quality itself just isn't there.

Well you can argue the same thing with a car. People spend a lot of money on a Mercedes but you see beat up ones all the time. Does it make Mercedes bad quality?

These bags are items that are used daily. They have a lot of stress put on them and they will show wear and tear. Unless of course you keep them in a glass case - museum style!

One last thing, I really believe people hang on to some of these bags too long JUST because they are Louis Vuitton. Some just need to be thrown away because they are indeed old and beat up. Yet some ladies still buy them in consignment shops and carry them around...

This week I bought a Speedy 25 B DE. I had the same bag in a 30 but I preferred the 25. When I got the bag home I detected a strange smell probably from glue? I had bought the same bag in DA about a month ago and it was just fine. Also the piping is not so straight on this one. I didn't want to return the bag as it was the last piece and they don't bring new ones that often. But still this smell bothers me. I had never before had any smell on a new item bought from the LV Boutique. I sometimes think quality is dropping and this is very sad.

You're definitely right. There seems to be an opinion that LV items need to last and can be carried for decades. :weird: While this might apply to the occasional item, I think it's plain silly to expect it for each and everything we buy.

But as you're talking about Mercedes: I have a friend who used to work as an engineer at BMW and he told me that they have tons of quality problems, especially with rust as they are forced to save costs in construction.
I guess this just happens to all companies who have management filling their and their shareholders pockets.

The same thing happens to all the luxury brands, I guess. The only way to avoid this, would probably be to get your bag handmade by some small manufacturer in Italy or something.

Well said fabuleux! Old, dirty and beat up does not equate vintage

Yes, that's what I said. We are actually arguing the same point, too hard to say sometimes because not everyone treats their bags the same. Some women are much harder on theirs than others.

On the other hand, I still maintain that some women will always delude themselves by saying they are buying a bag for the quality when in reality its because of the style or name brand.

And god yes, I absolutely HATE seeing old designer bags worn proudly on women's arms. Just looks ridiculous to me and ironically makes them look really unkempt. I don't care if you are carrying a Birkin, get rid of it if it starts to fray and look awful. Its just very tacky looking.

Have you experienced quality issues lately ?

I've bought the alma bb in antracite nacre in the end of february and wore it probably 5/6 times. I noticed today that it had some scatches and glazing problem. So I went to the store. The SA tried, at first, to tell me it was normal wear and tears. I argued, the bag is new and, for the price, this was not an aswer and she finally took it to send to expertise.

Have you had this issue before ? maybe with the alma bb ? What did CS do ? I hope they will at least fix the bag (the store manager talked about replacing the bottom of the bag). At that point I'd prefer store credit. I bought it in blueberry last week, haven't have a chance to wear it yet. I am thinking of returning it, I'm too afraid of another problem.
