I'm sorry dear i wasn't referring to you in my post. I'm referring to my former coworker that I was talking to the other day. She has 4 LV purse and one wallet. The wallet had cracked on her but it was several years old. Maybe like 20 or 15 years old wallet . She got her first LV when she graduated from college. She is in her 60s now . She talked about how there is about a 400% markup on these purse and she also talked about how to care for them. I had mentioned that someone had their wallet reglazed. She stated that didn't know that they could be reglazed. I never once mentioned the purse forum to her. She Said that she told that they have a lifetime warranty. When I mention some of the quailty control problems she couldn't believe and to honest to you. I can understand she feels that way. But she didn't confirm. That some SAs do all kinds of crazy things. It's be over 20 years I think since she has purchased a new LV purse. And she talked about how much they cost now

Overall she's been a great friend to me. She has given me a lot of good advice.

She's probably old enough she remembers the 70's. Back then, which is when I got my first bag, they did have a lifetime warranty. But it was family owned entirely then and only wealthy people bought them. After the takeover and when the family lost control, the warranty, any warranty, ceased to exist and has never existed since. Sorry. Didn't mean to vent. It just I see so many posts about this urban legend of an LV warranty that it drives me a little crazy. People keep talking about expecting free repairs because it's "under warranty" and as a paralegal I just want to shake them and say ask your SA who's trying to make a sale talking out her ears for a copy of that non-existent warranty and then watch her start stuttering. Drives me nuts. Sorry if I came across harsh. I just hate seeing posts saying there is one because innocent people are being misled.

You're Fine. I'm good. I realized that you're were venting. LV can be very frustrating. When did the takeover happened? I do understand that misinformation is driving you crazy. My friend was a little upset when I was telling her certain things about LV. e.g no lifetime warranty. Yes, She does remember the 70's. :smile1: She's about 65 yrs old. She talks a whole a lot. She talks so much sometimes that she forgets some of the things that she has said to me. haha!! It 's all good. But she still has a lot of good advice, too. Yes, I try to really listen to the sells person. They really got that sales talk down. I heard something today that I didn't really agree with that was being said by SA today.

I'm 56, so completely understand! I still love LV, but it's not what it was. Kind of sad. I still buy, but without blinders on. Ha ha! What happened today? Did a salesperson try to mislead you too! We're friends so if you want to commiserate I'm here! The takeover happened about 15 years ago if I remember right. There are still great bags and items. I tend to steer clear of some of the lower priced items that are popular. The newer speedies bear little resemblance to my older one. But some new bags are wonderful. My mono Metis is beautifully made.

Yes. You're right it's really sad thing about the current state of LV. Years ago when I was a little girl. I would look through my hair stylist LV catalog. And I still like LV. I overheard the sales person telling a customer that the zippy canvas wallet was a really durable wallet. I'm not so sure about some of their canvas items. Some people here have said that their canvas wallet had little to no glazing on them even when they are brand new. . SMH. In addition I've had several several SAs strongly recommend the empreinte leather purses over the canvas items. The SA says that they hold up better than the canvas. Here on this forum several person have said that the empreinte leather holds up really well. But in general I like leather more than canvas. But for some reason I want just one canvas purse and the peagse 55. I know to stay away from canvas speedies and the canvas neverfull. The Metis is a really pretty purse. I like the Artsy in canvas and leather. Nevefull
In Epi leather, delightful in monogram in. The old style. And papillon and the zippy wallet in empreinte leather. .

This kind of stuff below (pulled from a previous post where the OP compared 3 of the same bags and asked LV about their quality control)... these sorts of variances make these bags a lot easier to counterfeit.

Maybe my observation has already been made, but it bears repeating.

I bought an authenticated 1999 Speedy 35. Believe me if I could afford the cool thousand for a new one I would get it, but its just not in the budget right now.

Off to finish the rest of this very interesting thread.

Post #119 is where I got the photo from... btw

I also watched Dana Thomas lecture about her book. She makes some good points... I remember as a kid the separation of luxury vs. the standard for the rest of us. I dont know... I think things like luxury handbags were available to those of above-average economic status, there just wasnt the demand. She talks about this... how they made "luxury" appealing to the masses by placing items with celebrities etc.

Its just weird to me because I've been reading fashion magazines like Harpers Bazaar and Vogue since a teenager in the 1970s. I remember shopping malls in my area... Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza were far more down to earth. SCP had a Woolworths and FI had a JC Penney. Its just weird to me how they changed, but now I understand more of why. Corporations took over the formerly boutique brands and it really doesnt matter if certain stores make a profit anymore... what matters is their presence.

My mistake, sorry! I mixed up the information about warranty found online (including in this forum) with the paper came with my bag. Thanks for you all spending time on clarifying my confusion.

I guess louis vuitton intends to deal with rich people, to rich people, $1,000 is like a penny, if a bag has problem, rich people won't mind just throw that "penny" worth thing away, ha ha,

Now I feel so much better, even the bag can not be replaced or repaired (they have never called me back by the way), BECAUSE they want you to live like a Real Rich People! ha :-)

That's actually a very wise choice of yours, the preloved ones have been through time, you can see clearly if there is a problem.

Buying new from store doesn't bring much benefit, there is no warranty anyway.

sigh, I got another bag with flaws again. crooked stitching and areas are not centred. But I think I have come to a point of getting tired of doing returns because it's too hard to find a piece without problems. I just donno if I would buy anymore LV bags, for the price they are it just isn't worth it.

I understand your frustration. Are you able to go to a LV store and see the bags in person? I, too am VERY picky especially when I am spending this much money, for a brand with a reputation for quality.

Don't settle! If the bag is not perfect, return it, and tell LV WHY. Only if people complain do companies correct their problems. (I am currently going through this ordeal with a very expensive, brand-new washing machine. It's not a LV, but the problem is the same. Quality control).

I ended up returning it. I also ordered some new items but its the same thing again, the monograms are not straight, so the piece of leather is slanted to one side, also the emblem. Am I just unlucky or does this happen a lot?? I don't think I can return it this time unless I go into a store, as I am leaving the country and don't have enough time. The main reason is the crasftman is being careless and don't pay attention or care and they let the piece go through to the warehouse. Did you end up returning or exchanging the washing machine?
