LV and the quality

The Canvas on my Artsy seems beautiful, but I'm wondering if it just feels better because it has a nicer lining. I want a Speedy with strap so much, but every time I go look at it I just can't buy it because it feels like the material is so thin. I want it to feel like the Artsy!

OMG! I was thinking the same thing. I exchanged my speedy for the artsy b/c the canvas was soo thin and cheap feeling. I love my artsy so much and I want one in mono but I scared that it's the same thinner canvas just with better lining. Hopefully the thicker lining with help with the bags longevity.

Wow, great points...I can relate! I have an Azur Artsy, and the canvas feels nice & sturdy! I ended up with a pre-loved DE Speedy, in great condition and the canvas seems like it has more weight than the current ones. It really does appear that LV is sacrificing quality. I'll be much more selective in what I purchase in the future.

For the price we pay (and the way prices have gone up), I don't think LV should be sacrificing on quality at all. That would be shameless. The main reason why I buy from Louis Vuitton is because of durability aside from style. I stopped buying cheaper bags because they do not last (I once bought a Kate Spade bag and the strap tore like it was a piece of cheap cardboard! I'm not so sure about the rest. Sorry to any Kate Spade lovers out there.) I hope they do address any quality issues they have because I certainly don't want an 'investment' to fall apart just like that. I expect them to last for years because that is what I am paying for.

ITA! Why should loyal customers, like us (and so many dedicated tPFers,) be expected to continually pay higher prices for declining quality? It's horrifying to hear repetitive stories of cracking straps on NF's, interior linings showing through the canvas, etc....on bags that have been well-cared for only several weeks/months!! Oh no, your Kate Spade strap ripped apart?! Ugh, sorry to hear that. :( I've owned KS bags too, but also moved on to LV and higher end brands for the impeccable quality...that lately seems utterly inconsistent. So many threads now related to holding off on buying bags, for fear that their hard-earned money won't even get them an LV to last a year!

I am new to this forum. Just want to know if LV had produced a speedy 35 without pocket inside during early '80s? I might be out of the topic but I need help as soon as possible please. I opt to buy this vintage piece...everything looks authentic except for that no-pocket inside thing.

I think the Damier Speedy is a wonderful bag and I have been buying LVs since the mid-1970s. My Damier Speedy has been used and abused for years (and used a lot!) and still looks brand new. It's a wonderful bag.

I wonder though if that is still the same quality with the ones made more recently?

I just got a new speedy 25 in damier ebene, I didn't even get past the dust cover before I noticed the quality had gone down hill. The fabric of the dust bag is the thinnest I have ever seen from LV, then I get to the bag it's self the canvas is so thin on these new bags its scary!

I've been hearing that the quality and craftsmanship is declining. And that they are cutting corners. Is this really the case?

Yes! I've been drifting away from LV because of it! I still love the ones I have but.... I see a decline in quality from the older bags:( .
