I tkink Mr. Thompson had a problem with his gala uniform. On the last picture he's wearing a suit and under his left arm he's carrying somenthing like a kilt.

Got it! Mr. Thompson wasn't wearing a kilt but trousers. Look at his face reflected on the mirror.

That is not Jonny in the foreground - it is not a Royal Regiment of Scotland uniform. It is him in the background, but not a mirror reflection. That evening he wore his full RRofS Dress Mess Uniform as illustrated in their Dress Regulations.

In the picture with Catherine he was merely tucking his shirt in and was, unfortunately, caught in the photo looking a little less graceful than usual. You can clearly his short jacket in the picture of him while dining (bottom left).

His left hand is in his pocket. He is not carrying anything except his wine in the other hand.

This is the movie. I’m going out on a limb here and saying it’s no Princess Bride However, they do appear to be wearing the same tartan as the little Westie whose photo I posted a few days ago. I think we can agree he wore it better!
