Lt. Colonel Johnny Thompson of the Scots Guards and Handsome Men In Kilts **Appreciation Thread

I was not there so I can only speculate. During the France visit we were able to see so many things on live television. The visits, some of the State Dinner, the awful media crowds, and the unforgivable lack of French police protection.

One can only imagine what was going on behind the scenes that we could not see! Discussions ... tiredness ... meetings ... planning ... conversations with the Palace ... security briefings ... hurried meals ... checking and updating schedules ... getting ready for the next day ... trying to get some bit of sleep. As the King's Equerry, Jonny would be in the midst of all of these things. All the while, at the same time, watching over the King and Queen during each day's public events. Every duty carried out by him in a most impressive manner.

It appeared that our Lieutenant Colonel was forced to push through crowds. Keep his eagle eyes on everything. Move quickly while working with the Royal security team to keep the King and Queen safe in the uncontrolled crowds. Tolerate being hit by cameras. Manage being jostled by the media pack. While in the midst of crowds, physically keeping people away from the King and Queen. There was one live TV scene where he was seen, using his strength, to hold back media from the King.

Considering the conditions under which they were forced to work, the entire Royal party must have been stressed beyond words! I suspect that boarding the plane home may have been one of the most pleasant parts of the entire affair.

Edit: A few words changed.
Yes, I think that the scenes in Bordeaux must have been a particular concern, they looked chaotic ! I think it was there that the King was presented with a signed rugby ball by the Fijian rugby team, and serenaded quite beautifully by them. I have a feeling that the ball may be offered on loan to the RRS - Sunday past, Company 3's Fijian choir sang at Crathie Kirk for the King and Queen ! I saw a photo outside the Kirk on twitter @bkacoy_oc , if anyone is interested. Their OC wore a green plaid suit like Jonny's, so perhaps the costume regs have changed.

The Queen looks beautiful. That shade of pink really suits her.
She really did. Her wardrobe for the French Tour was spot on and received compliments even from the French! :hbeat:

Well, it's October and they're still in Scotland carrying out engagements and going to church in the Highlands, not that the press are covering it much. Thank God for social media.

Jonny standing tall, and looking as Regal as the Royals.

Some more Army photos. He truly does have the broadest shoulders and chest. I think his RRS issue jumper must be a Large.

This one from the Aden March and Shoot Exercise Package he set up for the Balaklava Coy to keep them well trained. (In my Favourites List.)

Edited: Photo deleted as it was pointed out it was photoshopped and stubble added (by the tiktok lady).

I wonder if anyone can help please. Do you know who the man in the photo is? Jonny is speaking to his wife at The Lonach Gathering and they were also at Balmoral when The King met with Balaklava Company. The reason I wanted to know is that Jonny hasn’t been seen with The King since France but this man is with him on visits. ThanksIMG_2001.jpeg

Shortly after Queen Elizabeth passed when King Charles was making visits in the north of England on another site someone said that there was a commotion in the crowd and Jonny came over and that he moved very swiftly and was built like a tank.

I've just looked on Getty to see if he's named, as I too remember them from the welcome to Balmoral back in August. But no name given. However I do remember reading he was the Monarch's Representative at Balmoral, so an Official person who probably makes sure the King's stay runs smoothly. And acts on his behalf when not in Scotland.

He's the Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, Alexander Philip Manson.

It just goes to show it's who is wearing a tweed suit, as the current Commanding Officer looks nothing like as distinguished in it as Jonny does, infact he looked quite casual. But I did notice the brown shoes, as Jonny wore with his suit. It must be part of the regs that the suit goes with brown shoes only for Officers.

I remember you saying watching the Bordeaux scenes that Jonny moves quickly for a big man. As lizle described above in what he went through on that final day, being biffed by photographers etc, I missed that. Can either of you remember which news stream it was and post the link please? Thanks.

A gentle whisper only to myself ... My personal thoughts ... I believe the photo of Jonny in his camo and Balmoral headdress is a photoshopped image with stubble.
Edited and deleted. When I expanded the screen it was visible, so I checked the original video and he is clean shaven. Why did she do it? He's handsome enough, why tamper with perfection? :shrugs:

I had three "live" media feeds going simultaneously and was posting to our chat as well. This being two weeks ago, I cannot recall which news stream it was, nor the specific day or event. I could clearly see Jonny being knocked on the side of his head by a camera and later, another person elbowing him in the back. All while he stood firm, staying them behind his back. There was so much filming for the duration of the France visit, by so many media sources. That part of the day's film most likely ended up being edited away because it was a general crowd scene without the King or Queen, as I recall.

Edit: The word "general" added
