I just tried to answer your two headdress posts and managed to frightfully jumble them into one combined mess that is posted just above. So scratch and ignore those and I'm starting over.

I saw the "Balmoral" in the manual but it looks, to my untrained eye, just like a Tam! No insult to any officer or other ranks intended! So, at some point, more pictures may be the order of the day to show us how to distinguish between. :wtf:

Going to find a bar of soap.
See my edit to my answer with a pic of each.

Sorry for the l o n g description. Bet you wished you hadn't asked!!!
Nope. Glad to know. Thank you for the pictures! Sorry you had to go to the trouble of finding photos but they are fascinating and I enjoyed seeing all of the bits and bobs. Will continue to look at them. Nice to know how things work - take apart - put back again. This is an anonymous forum but bits and pieces are shared so I will just say much more complicated than anything I might/may have worn/oath.

The whole "where is the feather" thing was like an itch you can't scratch. I imagined Jonny might have stepped on it and those brogues crunched them into feather dust. Conspicuous in their absence! :giggle:

So after the King & Queen went to the Chanel workshop, the Telegraph says the Tour has been a huge success, the French Press is full of coverage, they admired the seamless way the King went from English to French speaking at the Senate. And that's it for the night apparently. They'll get a chance to rest before travelling to Bordeaux for the Final day tomorrow.

Here's a lovely photo of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh visiting Paris in 1948, she was pregnant with Charles at the time.

Wash your mouth out!!!!!! Never, ever, refer to an RRS Officer's 'beret' as a Tam!!!

Other ranks wear the Tam O'shanter. Officers wear the Balmoral. Very subtle but definite differences.

Balmoral is a subtly different lighter colour, has a slightly smaller and more ellipse shape crown... and has a different (silk) lining.

The badge is attached in the same way as on the Glengarry, but over the RRS tartan patch instead of the silk cockade. The hackle is attached to the Balmoral (or Tam) in the same way as the blackcock on the Glengarry.

Edited to add pic. Jonny in the Balmoral, the other chap in the Tam O'Shanter. You can see the different colour and slight difference in shape clearly here.

Got it. Jonny wears the expensive sports car model. Another favorite Jonny in camo pic!

You can see the sealed lock on the Diplomatic bag in this one. Jonny - Doing the King’s Business !

Although, I feel the lock has been snapped on this and it is just being used to collect the souvenirs given to the King and Queen... sigh. It was a nice little imagine for a minute!

I think the young man on the right is from the British Embassy whom Jonny would've liaised with in preparation for the Tour. For some reason I hate seeing a man standing next to Jonny who is taller than him! :coolio:

Ha! La Rhumba was right! La Rhumba suggested Jonny was using it to carry the King and Queen's gifts but we joked that it might be full of snacks :giggle: Better than trying to balance all of those gifts like Jonny had to in Germany when he had things stacked on top of things and more on top of that!

Then may we have your leave to continue to test it with questions? The list has grown a bit longer while waiting for Mr RomeGirl to rejoin our wonderful little group!
Sorry. :hrmm: My fault not his. Fire away and I promise I will get to what either of us can answer when I can.

I went out to lunch today with some of the local ladies and I haven't had a chance to go back through all the previous posts.

Shhh! We must NOT make comments about Jonny's appetite!

But his slightly chubbier middle and hint of extra chin, evident in the last few days pics, have not gone unnoticed. Luckily he is still rather handsome even carrying a couple of extra pounds. If only the same could be said about me!
