Local Spending to Achieve VIP Status / Exempt Status

Hi All

Been wondering what is the minimum spend limit that (unofficially) moves one into the VIP category? I’ve heard that the main perk is that quota limits are much more flexible with BKC bags . Anything else ?

Based in London .

This thread and others on TPF might help you get a general sense (like anything H, it probably varies widely depending on your relationship with your SA and the house, so another individuals experience may not be widely applicable)
some london based TPfers weighed in here https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/the-hermes-game-should-i-keep-fighting.1037080/
and this one https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/new-rules-for-buying-quota-bags-uk.1032900/page-3
and this one for general tips https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/maintaining-a-h-relationship.156549/page-187
Im not based in London, but I think if you have a nice relationship with your SA and are truly interested in all aspects of the brand, bags will follow. Good luck on your journey!

There is no set amount. Tons of variables. This thread about maintaining a h relationship should give you some insight.

If you search “This forum” ”Titles only” for “vip” you will find quite a few threads on the subject over the years. You can also note that none of them get very far because there is no solely numerical definition and if I had to wager, I’d guess H doesn’t actually signify people as “VIP”; it’s either “oh that’s Jane. She’s in here three times a week and spends at least $10k every visit. Get her something nice.” Or it’s “oh that’s Queen Elizabeth. Give her whatever she wants.” I’d very much doubt if there is a line on the H profiles for “VIP: Yes, No, circle one” especially with the way H works where they align you with one SA at one store so being well known there would be organic.

Eh, SO offers don’t mean much anymore and even prior to the recent change of policy to give them to newer clients, it was still fairly common for normal clients with good SA relationships to get offered SO with relatively low spend.
Maybe OT, but any ideas for an explanation of the recent trend of giving out SOs fairly liberally?
Is a bag like, say, a mini K really for 'VIPs' when a new customer can simply place an SO for one? This may impact the value of these pieces over time.
It almost feels like H is shifting their regular production numbers into SOs.

Re the OP's question, I think this will also depend a lot on the boutique in question. There are loyal, high-spending customers at every H boutique, but there's going to be a different caliber of client at the major flagships like FSH, NYC Madison, etc.

There will always be someone that spends more and with a longer relationship history and that’s just life.
I would just enjoy what comes your way if I were you.
H has been there for nearly 200 years and it’s not going anywhere so why the rush to get a ton of bags?
Agreed, and what do one expect when being a VIP? I'm not trying to drop $100k a year just so when they pull up my client profile in the system & there's a VIP icon next to my name

I actually feel pretty bad when I see my Harrods reward statements and reward card tier status …
It’s like being told I’m a shopaholic (tut tut)

Probably like Deliveroo Premium, you get to choose the colour of your icon in the app :graucho:

That and as many boxes of their Christmas “three small chocolates” as you can manage in one sitting.

Jokes aside, I’d love to be a VIP in China, for their Mid Autumn Festival gifts:nuts::loveeyes:

Simply put, just like any other reservation system, it removes all the guesswork from production planning. If everything is ordered and nothing (or only smaller goods that can be made from the excess leathers, etc) is held as stock, you can exactly plan your materials and inventory, speeding your inventory turnover and potentially taking advantage of float with your suppliers with longer repayment terms. It enhances cash flow and reduces overhead. You can exactly plan the number of labor hours, etc you need to produce the # of slots and never have the risk that an item will go unsold.

in their case if they can make people feel special and get away from the negative press about “the game” they will see more money from that. Truly the inflated resale market is also revenue they could access if they could find a way to make sure everyone gets a bag - and a global system plus going special order only allows them to much more tightly control who gets a bag when.

IMO it’s an effort to retrain consumer behavior away from buying everything in sight to get access to a bag that might not even be what you want, and now they just have stores completely devoid of items to sell and that’s not really where you want to be as a retail brand.

Maybe of the mark a tad but retail stocks are losing a lot of traction. Granted the market in general is now in bear territory, but one might think Hermes and the like would be somewhat insulated. The emphasis is losing a lot of traction. The H website offerings are skimpy, imho. It would seem to me they have the same number of artisans/ crafts people, so are they cutting back production? I don’t know since I have not ventured into a boutique since the onset of COVID so I cannot speak to store inventory. About a year ago there were rumbling, loud rumblings that the market was due for a correction. I sold stocks that were doing okay but not meeting my bar for must keep and ride out the storm. Maybe their game of spend to the invisible level may bite them on their Bottom line.
