New 'rules' for buying quota bags UK?

No. Not once did the SA’s offer a card. Every time I asked for a B / K I’ve been told:
They don’t have any at the moment,
There are no wishlists,
You just have to be a regular customer,
and visit the store often.

The part about B/K is not surprising (it’s just what they are trained to say), but not getting a stable SA definitely seems a little odd to me...

What stopped you from going to the same SA for all the purchases? It seems like you do know that building a relationship is important for a BKC. Purchasing that many things not from the person is kinda odd. The not getting a card is a bit weird though.

it is fascinating indeed :). Perhaps in line with what is going on in the world, they adjust these rules flexibly, so they can maintain their overall sales level as much as possible? I would assume regional spending habits and preferences play into that.

one of the YouTubers shared how she got a Mini Kelly in London, as her first bag - she mentioned wish list, but also that there is none for Mini Kelly because it is so popular. This may be the case for very popular combos (noir/ K25 or 28 etc) as well - just guessing of course.

I watched her video too and she did mention the wish list system! I am wondering if she got the Mini Kelly because her mother is a long-standing customer there. She also mentioned that they offered her a Birkin on the same day which she turned down for the Mini Kelly (it doesn't seem like she has a purchase history with H, but her mother probably does).

I thought about OP's original statement...
"The SA told me that the rules have changed for quota bags and that now a client has to go in person to a store and fill out a wishlist (ie; 1st choice kelly Sellier Epsom leather etc etc) and that when that store receives the spec's that are on the wishlist they will then work through the list calling the next in line who has asked for it."

Just to be clear, I wanted to add that I definitely tell my SA what I am looking for wrt bags and she frequently asks me about random bags they receive (if I'm interested in xyz knowing that I didn't specifically ask for that color/etc and may be other items not just bags)... but all of this is through phone call or text. So yes, there is a list she has that I provide and update regularly, but it's not necessary to go to the boutique in person, from my experience. Except the experience I already shared from a decade ago. :flowers:

I hope so. My SA took my wishlist and added it to the system but I did get a run through of purchase history and diversified spending, with bags not counting towards the spend amount. I’m fairly new to purchasing in store, not a big spender and there are categories I am not yet likely to purchase but hope we get the chance to get quota bags too.
I'm confused. The SA went through your purchase history in front of u? If so, do u know why?
I have never had that happen so I'm just curious....

I think the poster just meant that they got the typical lecture of “purchase history is taken into account along with which categories are purchased” etc when they asked their SA how to get a quota bag.

It was my first time with her. I shop at the store from time to time but never really had a designated SA so she pulled my file and looked at what I already had to see if that will help.

I’ve already bought my quota this year, but I did have my SA in UK taking my wish list and adding it to the system in her phone, in front of me, including all colors and specs I would like to have. I think it’s a great idea since we can all have some peace of mind that our SA knows 1) that we are looking for something and 2) exactly what it is. However, I do think that if they get a black kelly with GHW they will still consider the purchase history and the relationship in general to decide who gets the bag and not the first in line, IMHO.

This makes total sense - and reflects what happens at other brands as well. let's be realistic: why would a SA give a highly desired bag to a customer with no purchase history (read:possibly never to come back) over a well-established customer? You would need a lot of hope that this is the beginning of a long-term working relationship, and I guess that they try to figure out when they create your wish list entry. I am sure 'reading customers' is part of being a good SA (or client advisory as I heard someone say the other day)

Hmmm not sure how I feel about this. The current system has been working well for me so far at my local boutique. Does this mean we do not have to build our purchase history and have a long term record? I've always been told by my SA that loyalty is key.

Im not sure this is the case. I was chatting with my SA this week and we talked about how they took telephone order during the lockdown and the online shop, he said I could see the online shop as a different store, and he said you could find something there (ie a different colour) online but definitely not the coveted bags. Then he said a lot of people came and asked for the bags and they didn’t understand this is not how it works. He said they have all the bags in the store but they have a rule of who they would give them to. So I’m sure for a local customer who has no prior purchase history or very little purchase history there’s still a chance to get the quota bags but it will be much easier for established clients to get what they want.
