Lining up for Hermes - thoughts, rants, raves

Is it just me or has it been really difficult to get an appointment... The store said even to exchange a bag I need an appointment. I have tried on consecutive days to get one to exchange a bag purchased, but no luck. Not sure if I can even exchange it at all.

Somehow I prefer the old system where at least I can try to wake up early and getting an appointment is more in my control than now is more down to luck.

can you not exchange at george V or sevres? or you are trying to get a kelly or birkin for the exchange?

Yes I am exchanging for a K so thought FSH will have the best stock. If I am unsuccessful at FSH, I will try the other two stores as well.

Can you just email George V or Serves and ask them if you can exchange your bag into K? I was following your story and I feel for you! I'm planning on making the same trip to Paris and I can't stay more than one day as well.

How about H in other countries like bkk and singapore. Need to go online to make a booking for appointment as well?

Not here in BKK or Singapore but I will say this--although I live in Thailand I shop in Singapore since the service in Thailand is aloof to put it mildly. If you are not a Thai socialite or celebrity the staff are not helpful and act like they are doing you a favor just saying hello. I am western and many other westerners here experience the same because they instantly assume we are tourists.

FSH and Tokyo are the only places you can get B/K/C as a walk-in without a prior relationship. The line in Tokyo is well organized but the FSH line was out of hand. The line in Tokyo is probably more manageable because the price of H in Japan (as in much of Asia) is even higher than the US, so FSH is really the preferred destination.

My apologies in advance for the rant.

I feel rather frustrated and mistreated by the new system at FSH. As some of you know, I am in need to exchange a bag and was told I will still need an appointment to exchange the bag. However, after consecutive tries (~everyday for over a week) I was still not successful to be able to go back; parts of me believe because I may have appeared to be similar to reselllers on the system, who tries to come back. Everyday the rejection time is different, which looks to me that the assessment was done manually; and I can't figure out how to clarify to them that I am coming back for an exchange. Maybe as a feedback, adding a field to indicate reasons for appointment will be good.

What makes me more upset is that, the online system is supposed to identify and have resellers ousted and give everyone equal chances filtered by their eyes. However, this system might massively favour resellers as I just figured out from many sources. The reasons being 1/ Now any resellers who live within 7 hours flight / train from Paris can come to Paris, (since appointment is confirmed the day before) instead of FSH being the main playing field for Paris resellers only as previously. So all the resellers from Russia / Middle Eastern region and west coast all go in to try. Same for anyone who lives in other European countries (admittedly me included) This explain the massive surge in requests which they can't cope. Therefore in turn they try to give every newly-tried people a chance, but it means most likely granting no second try (e.g. even for exchange cases like myself)

2/ and this is where it favours resellers - most resellers have multiple passports and a network of people / new passports they can plug into.
Not to say the all-day everyday-a-week availability since this is their job; while most of us can only try one or two days. They can therefore have better chance to score.

I am just upset because it shouldn't be this hard to exchange a bag with Hermes. I had already spent 10K USD with them, if that means something to them after all. Although I don't have an appointment tomorrow, I'm just going back to Paris to refund the bag to get store credit. I am tired of this game and have wasted so much time and money (as well as my dignity for that effect); now even with 10K of store credit that I might not ever use since I grow a bit allergic of the brand.

If it was down to me and my preference I'd have quit a long time ago. I wish my sister can see this reality. To her Hermes is still all fairy dusted and I unfortunately become the victim of this reality instead. I guess sisterhood means = "I volunteer" like in Hunger Games. This Hermes game is indeed similar to one.

Sorry for the rant and thanks for letting me share. I was very upset.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through all of this hassle for a bag not even for yourself! Perhaps you can suggest to your sister that she buy from a reputable reseller? By the time you make so many flights to Paris in hopes of getting the right combination she wants, it might cost the same.

I didn't realize store credit was specific to a store, I thought it was hermes wide or maybe at worst, country specific. That's a bit annoying.

Yes I am very inclined to advise her the same as it has cost me a tremendous amount of time not to say money. Except now I have 10K store credit which is of no use to me; I wonder what I can do with it now. I believe the store credit is definitely country specific; I will check if it's store specific.

Anyway I will speak to all the stores in Paris tomorrow as one last try to restore my faith in the brand.

Oh. If it is country specific, candidly, I am not sure they will be super understanding. Because you can simply return it at Sevres as there is no appointment issue/scheme at the non FSH locations? One could say the FSH lottery is doing what its supposed to do - try to spread the b/k luck over more people and prevent multiple attempts from the same people. It sounds like the new appointment system isn't preventing your exchange, but you just want another shot at the b/k lottery while you are exchanging?

Regarding the store credit, perhaps you can have your sister pay you for it - and next time you go, she goes with you. Certainly it'll make her appreciate your efforts / time once she experiences it!
