Can anyone who has seen both in person compare the leather on the black quilted lambskin Happy to the leather on the black calfskin Happy? I love the idea of lambskin, but I worry about the finish and durability. At the same time, I really want something with a very soft hand, so I worry that the calfskin will be too thick and rigid. I'm looking for an everyday bag that goes with everything and has a feminine touch. Which do you think better fits the bill?

Thanks!

I haven't seen the Quilted Happy in person yet, but I did see the Mini Pop, which I believe is made from the same type of leather. The soft (classic) Happy is very soft leather which is more matte (no shine and/or glazing - it's just a flat leather). The Quilted bags are also soft, but the leather has a glazing or gloss, like a layer of protection to it. Someone here described their Quilted Happy as having a "waxy feel" to it -- I guess you could describe it like that. Some people may find the Soft Happy a little more delicate or fragile because it lacks that gloss, but I don't think so -- both leathers are fantastic, but as much as I love the quilted Happy, I liked the leather on the Soft version better (but I would still choose the quilted over the soft!!)

Does that help or make sense?

The previous bag came to me already with scratches on it (underneath the flap). The new one I exchanged for I have been using on and off and haven't had any issues(fingers crossed). The bag looks like the same bag the day I first received it:) I'm no Lanvin expert though I do think the quilting on the leather makes it harder to show wear on the calfskin. Calfskin does scratch IME but it'd have to take some heavy scratching or pressure to do so. Hope this helps:)

Chriseve - Belated congratulations on your quilted Happy. I loovvee the color! In an earlier post you mentioned that the quilted Happy (the one you exchanged) seemed to scratch easily. How is your new one holding up? Does the leather seem more delicate than the smooth leather Happy?

I first would suggest you try to see all three of them in person and try them on (with and without coats) and see how you like them. I've pined over bags that I thought I'd love until I see them irl and while they're still fabulous, they just don't look good on me:p

Between M/L and Jumbo, if you love both and have to choose one, then perhaps the Jumbo would be, not necessarily better, but strategically a good choice since they're adding another flap on the inside starting Cruise 10/11 and will no longer be producing the Jumbo with just the single flap (I'm no expert so if I'm wrong here, please Chanel experts kindly correct me). Grab it while you still can I suppose is the motto here;)

I personally love the M/L more than the Jumbo because of its versatility from day to night, casual or business. Also, I feel that the Jumbo overwhelms me sometimes (even though I'm not a petite girl) but I've seen plenty of girls smaller than me carry it off fabulously. But the M/L style is not going anywhere and the design isn't getting changed, so perhaps you can wait on that for now?

Now onto the Lanvin, it's much more affordable compared to the Chanels, but if you don't love it, it wouldn't matter how much more or less it costs. I love the Happy mainly due to its less than structured body. The bag is amazingly spacious and I think I listed on here somewhere how much I could fit in it, and it's quite a bit! The taupe color is quite amazing in person and suits my wardrobe. I particularly love the ribbons and detachable coin charm and the vintage gold/brass looking chains, the chevron quilting, the mineral/stone like hardware, it just spells romance and vintage to me. With that being said, it can come off as 'fussy' (the removable coin charm usually doesn't get used because I don't like to hear that cling sound when I carry it to work) and not as 'clean lined' as I've heard from a friend. Is it classic? I'd say so, even more so if you get one of the classic Happys.

Investment wise, I think the choice is obvious--Chanel, partly due to their constant price increase, and they're more well-known. I do think Lanvin will receive more attention from the masses after H&M's end of November collection hits stores. One is one of the most recognizable(if not the most recognizable) Paris fashion house, and another is the oldest. At the end of the day, it comes down to which one YOU love the best!

Hope this helps:D

Chriseve, I have a dilemma and since you have 3 of my favorite bags of all times let me ask you this:
I'm in the fence between a Chanel bag and a Lanvin Happy. I see you posted pics of all of them. The Lanvin seems to be very well priced and size wise similar to the Chanel m/l and Jumbo but I don't know as far as quality and investment in the long run...
What are you're thoughts?? There is quite a price difference and I am a Chanel lover but lately with the price increases it's fairly hard to keep up...

Speaking of the Lanvin collaboration with H&M, does anyone know where I can find out which U.S. stores will be featuring the Lanvin collection? For some reason I can't find a comprehensive list... I'm in Los Angeles so mainly interested in the So. Cal. area. TIA!

Go to the H&M website and put your zipcode under store locator..the stores will pop up and when you click on the store it will tell you it will carry Lavin for H&m or if it has a kids dept etc..

Thank you for all the info if I could only get to try on the Lanvin near me the only store is in Bal Harbour and maybe I can go to the Chanel boutique there and try the other 2, I'm petite so I really need to see the Jumbo size on me thanks again for your help!

^^thanks so much, simone72!! :flowers: it never occurred to me to search that way, duh to me. i'm excited to see the H&M lanvin items IRL!

so I called the store in Bal Harbour to see if by chance they had recd the Navy Leopard Happy. it's a good thing I did!! They didn't have it at the boutique -- none of the US boutiques have it. He said they also didn't have it at the eCommerce site's warehouse (so why it says it's available, I don't know?). He did say that they ordered one from Paris for me tho and it should be here within the week!!:yahoo:

That'll work out perfectly -- of course, I was hoping to buy it this weekend, but what's a few more days, huh? And if I had waited and ordered it from the website, he says chances are they would have had to have had it sent from Paris anyhow, which would have taken even longer!!

My fingers are crossed by late next week, I'll be the proud new owner of the Navy Leopard Happy!!:sweatdrop::push:

p.s. does anyone have any experience with the Manager of the store in Bal Harbour? I believe he said his name was "Roger" (or something that sounded like that?)

iluvmybags - Congratulations! I'm looking forward to seeing the pics!

chriseve - Thanks for the info on how the quilted Happy wears. I'm typically very careful with my bags anyway, especially if I know it's a leather that will scratch easily, but I too was thinking that the quilting would help to hide any scratches. I would love to see this bag in person rather than just ordering it, but the only store near me that would possibly have it is Neiman's and I looked at all of their bags last week when I stopped in to the Chanel boutique and I don't remember seeing any Lanvin. I tried to call them three times today to inquire about it and nobody ever picked up the phone. Frustrating!! Anyway, thanks for posting the pics comparing it to your Chanel flaps. Last week I looked at the M/L, the jumbo and the maxi. The maxi was way too big to be used as an evening bag and then the crazy thing is that the M/L and jumbo I looked at were practically the same size. I think the SA who helped me was confused (she came from the main handbag floor to help me) because when I pointed out to her that there wasn't much difference in size between the two bags she told me that it was because the M/L was caviar leather and therefore looked bigger and closer in size to the jumbo, which was lambskin. I don't know - I personally think they were both M/L, but they were too small, which means that the jumbo would probably be perfect and the Happy looks close to that size based on your pics. I should probably make another trip to the Chanel boutique. Why is handbag shopping such hard work?!

I just got this bag from hgbagsonline. I originally saw/petted it at neiman marcus in the brown shade and was surprised how much like lambskin it felt for being calfskin. However, the one I received seems reallly stiff and not as soft. Has anyone bought this? Has it loosened up? I'm so on the fence! I loved it in the store but it's so different feeling....

* to clarify it was the exact bag in calfskin- not the lambskin version of the tote that i felt at nm*

^^ I've seen/felt this quilted calfskin leather and TBH I've never thought it was soft or with slouch potential because of the 'glaze' on it - I think that might be a good thing for this style though as it will help keep it's structure a little more. I have the lambskin version and it's incredibly buttery and soft but it has no shape whatsoever.

I think your Amalia is beautiful but YOU have to be 100% in love with it :)
