Let's talk about this barenia leather.....

Actually, I heard that the actual story was something like, the family that runs the tannery that produces the barenia for Hermes slowed production right down due to the fact that only the older family members knew how to produce the leather, and none of the new, younger members or employees had gained the skill. When the "old guy" passed away, there was virtually no-one there to make the Barenia....recently the same family (and factory, of course) have begun producing Barenia again, and therefore Hermes is putting more out again.
They would have had some stock in reserve, which is why it didn't disappear off the radar entirely, but weren't making entire bags from this stock.

This is why there are rumours (I have heard, at least) that the 'new' Barenia won't be up to par to the old Barenia. Of course, Hermes would never admit that! LOL!

Hi GF,

Understand that these are the suppliers to Hermès ... interesting reading anyway about the process of Barenia - HTH

Tanneries Haas

^^ thank you flossy. What an interesting read. Like the natural barenia colour on its website.

I have a TPM Evelyne in barenia and I love it! It sure darkens in colour. I've had water droplets on it, but it soaked right in. After a few buffs, the water stain kind of blended into the leather, and I hardly see it on its surface. But if I stare at the same spot hard enough, it does a bit of a shadow of a past incident.

^^ Hey GF, :smile1: , this is what was told to me, ;) . I think that I shared this story with tPF as soon as I heard the news because I was so elated that Barenia (in any form) was going to be back in production. Who knows the actual truth, but this was what had been relayed to me, because for roughly 3 yrs. I had been hassling my boutique about Barenia and any potential news. At this point they may just be making up fairy tales to shut me up and have me leave them alone,;) !! ....but then the pics in the recent Men's A/W collection are also promising.
I have to say that I bookmarked the Tannery's site a few months ago when HG first posted the link. Somehow just having the link is reassuring, :p .....I LOVE Barenia:heart:   ....

^ Sarah, it was you that got me started on Barenia in the very first instance!! And I think it may have been you that I heard the "supply " story from...makes sense, though!

What do you think of this white Barenia?

^^ 'White' Barenia?? Where is it?? On the site? On instinct I wouldn't go for it, thinking that the scratches and slight staining that blends so superbly with the natural wouldn't work on a white, but who knows....
A swatch would be great to test!! Hey, if I got to buy a Barenia ANYTHING, I would and have, :p !!

No, there is a watch strap in white Barenia in a magazine...HG confirmed it was actually barenia.....

somehow the scent of barenia, and the colour white, don't seem to go hand in hand.......

Oh, the watch strap! Yes, I have seen that, but it doesn't fit the men's Cape Cod (which is my one and only), so I never looked into it seriously. In a watch strap, it does sound as though it could be quite promising.

GF I think dear Sarah-girl has got everyone started on Barenia ... if anyone deserves the first ever Barenia once it is reproduced, it has to be Sarah, she has been lusting after one for the longest time and I am sure her SA goes to sleep chanting *Sarah-girl, Barenia .... Sarah-girl, Barenia* LOL.

 :p , Oh Flossy dear:heart: , I have tried desperately to make 'BARENIA' the first and the last word I say to her on each and every visit!!! Occassionally I do subliminal messaging as well....really anything, :p  :smile1: .....
