Just found this tread and some of the posts are such horrorstories i hope I never have to experience and some make me smile. Generally you ladies seem to recover fast and handle these situations well. Reading these posts prep me for situations that might happen so thank you for sharing.

I have never had rude comments about my Bs here in Scandinavia. Like Vigee said, for example in Sweden, the risk is very low. Here in Finland I seldom see any H bags and nobody wears twillies around handles. Most people probably don't know about H, since we have no store here in my country.

The only incident I have had happened at FSH when a non stylished big man passed by and touched my bag, which was next to me on the glass counter, squeezing the clemence leather on the sidepanel between his fingers. It took me by surprise and I was only able to give him a long firm look. It all happened so fast, but now I'm prepared. It felt so personal, like he molested my bag, kind of dirty, especially because he was so off in the boutique and was in the company of 2 other lookalike fellows.

Wow this was an interesting thread. The level of toxicity people can stoop to is horrifying. I am still appalled at missylovebag's friend who actually told her she doesn't suit her Lindy; how is that even a legitimate way to talk to your friend?

I've had an encounter with someone who asked if my Prada shades were genuine. Where I come from, it's incredibly sunny everyday. I wear my shades whenever I go out, even in my university. Maybe it's not customary over here to wear shades, so once my seminar ended, I got ready to leave the campus and whipped on my shades. A classmate, who was walking with me, stared intently at them before asking with a skeptical face, "are those real?" I was dumbfounded; it was my first time encountering someone who doubted the genuineness of my apparels and directly voiced it out to me. "Why wouldn't they be?" I answered her. All along, when I see people carrying branded apparels, I would admire their beauty but never assumed they would be counterfeit. It just never occurred to me that people would invest in counterfeits because the fantastic material is what's important when purchasing a branded item. I learnt, then, that people can and do doubt the genuineness of your apparel, and even though it's pretty insulting, it will never end unless people stop (re)producing counterfeits. Talk about disillusionment.

Ahhh I need to vent SOOOO bad and I know you ladies can understand :-)

So after a couple of months of looking for a new job I finally got an offer at a company that I love. I stupidly invited my MIL over to my house for a glass of champagne to also celebrate the fact that her favorite son (not my husband) also got a great job offer today.

Everything was great, we were enjoying our champagne when all of a sudden out the blue she tells me that she is happy for me but she has one tip and that its to not wear my Hermes bags to work since I will be working with GASP other women who are all jealous snakes!

So ummm I just had 7 interviews wearing what is clearly a very very flashy Hermes bag: the DOUBLE SENS turned to the NON logo side and OMG they offered me more than what I expected so in spite of my inherent showing how well off I am they still want to pay me (ha ha ha).

She went into this whole discussion about how this isn’t America and that people are jealous of success so I should be careful. She told me with pride how she had one pantsuit in 3 colors that she wore for her whole career. Ah yes her “career” that lasted 5 years before she stayed at home.

I told her that I really don’t wear anything that is flashy and only buy discrete things. And she kept on looking me up and down. So my dress was from Zara, tights from Wolford (if she can see the label through the layers then hats off to her), and no visible brand boots. I like things that are so off the radar that I got a Chanel Flap as a gift and immediately sold it because I can’t be caught dead with a logo I can’t hide.

I am sorry if because my hair is well done and I like to wear a little makeup and have good posture and so I look more expensive than things are! Anyway she pissed me off so much. I don’t wear flashy jewelry, I don’t buy crazy designer things, my ONE obsession is Hermes bags and I wear really under the radar designs partially because the discussions with HER are not worth it. Her family knows the founders but unfortunately NONE of the taste, elegance, or class rubbed onto her, thank god it went to my DH. She pissed me off so much I couldn’t help myself but to say well start to wrap your head around the fact that I am getting my Kelly soon but accordingly to her I should only use it to walk the dog who she also said looks too expensive because its a bulldog.

Anyway I guess I need to go buy a Longchamp/Coach/Dooney or Michael Kors tomorrow since I can never expect a raise if I go to work with an H bag! UGHHHH

Ok vent over...

Good luck with your MIL, my dear. She's a nightmare.

Thank you!

I thank god everyday that I have a husband who realizes MIL is unreasonable and not me.

Its a whole other subject but she puts the two sons in competition and it breaks my heart. Thank god DH's head is screwed on right so he knows he shouldn't question himself.

Ok Ladies....I was wondering has anybody commented Men or Women NEGATIVELY on your Birkin or any of your Hermès purchases?
I went to lunch today with a male friend I've known for several years, I just got a 42cm Black JPG this past September...I decided to bring with me to lunch today...I beat him to the restaurant so I was already seated...my friend is ALWAYS LATE...oh BTW he's not gay but metrosexual and knows all name brand items...as we eat, drink a few white wine spritzers...my cell rings from my JPG...I reach for it and my friends EYES GET HUGE AS SAUCERS!!!!!!....."HOLY S**T!!!!...ARE YOU INSANE?"...he says to me....IS THAT REAL?....I admit I was a little slow from the wine...so I'm not really understanding what the fuss is about. HUH???....I say...he then says..."YOUR HERMES BAG....LIKE DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THAT COSTS?"..."WHY DIDN'T YOU BUY A LOUIS VUITTON OR COACH BAG?"...YOU COULD OF BOUGHT 10 BAGS FOR THE PRICE YOU PAID FOR JUST ONE....."I CAN'T BELIVE THAT YOU OF ALL WOMEN WOULD BE THAT DUMB AND SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY ON A POCKET BOOK!!!!!"....I was in such shock by the negativity, I really didn't have a response. I never experienced this...most of the time when I wear either of my Birkins...NOBODY EVEN KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE!!!! (I guess because I live in Brooklyn and don't live in Manhatten).
Has anyone else had this happen?...from friends?...or just random people off the street?....I would love to hear your story!!!!!

As they say, with friends like that who needs enemies? SO SORRY to hear this story.

You don't need a different bag, just a different MIL. :hugs:

Wow...I didn't expect so many responses so quick...it makes me feel better...Imagine if I had spilled the beans and let him know that this was birkin#2...lol. I mean guys spend money on LUXURY CARS...HELLO!!!!!!....ITS OK FOR THEM TO SPEND $80,000 ON A PORSCHE???....I mean to each his own...I'm single with NO CHILDREN..I own a brownstone...I don't own a car because I'm to lazy & irresponsible to get up and move it for alternate side of the street parking....and I have a classic wardrobe so I only need to update with a few NEW pieces, so what's the big friggin deal about me spending MY MONEY on a Birkin???...but from what my friend says it MAKES ME APPEAR HIGH MAINTENANCE...HENCE...THAT'S WHY I'M STILL SINGLE...oy vey!!!...lol

Same here..... sadly everyone "owns" such kinda "friends", which makes me a bit nervous carrying my Hermes bags seeing my friends, but I thought why should I change other bags when I saw them!!! It's a free world, I'm only using my own money buying things I love. I take care of my parents well, I'm devoted to my friends and work. I've done nothing wrong!
BTW, I hate the last part of the comment, as if they have analyzed my love life!

This isn't rude but I'd consider it un-discrete: one day I was in the airport lounge with a GP. Then the lady sitting nearby started to talk kind of loud (not whispering) to her friend: 'oh I just bought the same bag (staring at my bag)...same as HERS...Hermes is really nice...we ladies just like spending money on expensive bags...blablabla' I don't think it cool to comment on other people's belongings when they're nearby and could definitely hear you, hehehe

Facepalm!

I was out at a popular restaurant recently with my family and was carrying my favorite H bag. A woman, about ten years older than I, got up from her table and walked toward the door; I thought she was preparing to leave, but I was wrong. She stood directly in front of me staring at my bag without moving for a solid five minutes. She glared a bit, circled me, and then went back to her table and eyed me up and down for a few more minutes before taking leave of the restaurant about ten minutes later... Strange!!
