Lol !

Worst (because I was a bit ashamed) but also quite funny comment came from one of my aunties when I introduced her to Hermès.
At that day, we were showed a 35 Birkin (I didn't own any Birkin at that time yet). My aunt closely inspected the bag and said without blushing while the SA was standing next to us: "Oh, those bags are perfect for grocery shopping. The vegetables I buy every Saturday would fit perfect in this"

I agree with your aunt though, it is perfect for a little grocery shopping. ;) Most certainly more shameful to waste a lot of non recyclable plastic bags than to use a sturdy birkin IMHO. ^_^ You forgot to tell us whether your aunt got anything for herself. :p

I agree with you, nothing wrong to use a Birkin for grocery shopping but it was just the way how she said it that made me blush :p. I'm sure you would understand what I mean if you were there too that day :D.
And thank you for asking, my aunt liked the Birkin but was a bit shocked when she found out the price so she bought a beautiful silk scarf instead that she loves to wear :smile1:.

I love that your aunt saw the practicality of the bag above all else! Hermes bags began their lives with very clear functions (the Picotin is a feed bag, the Evelyne a toolbag, etc.) and their true beauty is in their lack of fol-de-rol and their simple, useful shapes! Your aunt "got it"!

That's my aunt, always look at practicality first ( and I should do that too when I buy a new bag, I have to admit that some of my bags are not practical at all :shame:).
Dear aunt is thinking about a Garden Party now. I like Garden Party too but don't have one myself yet. Maybe we could buy one together and share it :p.

Hi ladies.. Just wanted to share an incident that left me feeling appalled yesterday.

I was walking down a busy street with my black HAC when from about 10 meters away, a lady yelled at the top of her voice "Excuse me! Where did you get that fake bag from??"

I was absolutely mortified. So many people turned around to stare at me! I walked up to her and told her politely that my bag was not a fake and she just shook her head in disbelief and walked away, still loudly declaring that my bag was a fake.

WOW, best to leave ignorance and a wild child alone, sorry you had to experience this .. but sometimes the 'audiences' are very knowledgeable but may not come to your rescue .. quite an epidemic we have on the lack of etiquette.

Honestly, am tired of being magnanimous towards any persons w/ ill will and intents .. le sigh!!

Going back into my diamond encrusted bubble that some will think is a fake :amuse: lol

btw: I don't think your scenario sounds too foreign to moi ;)

Unbelievable!! I always remember that you cannot share the beauty of your pearls with swine! I am sorry that you had to encounter a piece of swine Egglet!

I hope I would have the presence of mind to say "same place you got your teeth and hair color". But the high road might be better- so - just give the address of the H boutique.

Hahahahha--Perfect! Sometimes, the low road is stinkin' necessary! lol

Never heard this delightful idiom. Putting it in my arsenal--nice!

And while this isn't an anecdote of rudeness, I am still laughing: I was sitting in a meeting/presentation with a hundred women, and Ruby, my Birkin, was sitting at my feet. One of my colleagues from another site, picked her up and starting fiddling with her, ink pen in hand, andtoo loudly said, "is this one of those $500.00 expensive purses I've heard you carry?" I smiled, took it from her and called her an ***. She laughed. My girlfriend, on the other side of me, knowing what Ruby is, dropped her head, laughing. While some of you TPFers live in a world where your pieces are well known, I do not. My Hermes and I walk a road of secrecy for the most part--which is part of the intrigue and mystery to me. Years ago, all I carried was LV and Gucci--such a different world... Thanks for letting me share, my friends!

LOL, it is my pleasure for you to adopt this idiom^
oooO, please do share your arsenal, am intrigued!!

It's great to have your bff by your side^ .. I actually do not mind if people crack an eyebrow, make a boisterous remark or speak about me within hearing distance, just goes to show one's upbringing .. lol ..

Not living in H secrecy, but I do believe sometimes we live in a parallel universe on some levels ..
my lurker friends will understand this reference .. cheers to nosce te ipsum

I just wanted to share this with you ladies. Last night I was shopping in a party supply store picking up a few Christmas decorations when I came upon a woman who was carrying a newer model monogrammed Coach bag. It was beautiful - not my style, but still a nice looking bag. I noticed it immediately. I smiled at her as I walked by and she looked directly at my bag (a black Garden Party), gave me a weird look, and then sort of chuckled. I immediately wondered, "Did she just laugh at my bag?" But then I thought I must have misread her -- she may not have been looking at my bag at all. Besides, why would anyone laugh at another woman's bag?? However, 5 minutes later our paths crossed again and she had pretty much the same reaction! :confused1:

lol! it is so funny you mentioned this, because seriously, i was standing in the grocery line yesterday, and this super environmentalist-type in line behind me made this rude remark about how i didn't bring reusable bags with me. and then she suggested i put my items in my birkin! but it actually made sense, in terms of size lol! i just smiled and said i would prefer not to.

Hi Ladies! I don't have a bag, but I have a few scarves. One of my friends(!) asked me if I thought I was better than them because my scarves were H. :-( The next week, I wore a much lower end brand.

^^Gollygwhiz, please don't let your friend's comment deter you from wearing your beautiful Hermes scarves! Once a family member made a similar comment to me because I'm always "dressed up" when I see her. I told her I don't think I am better dressed than her or anyone else. I wear/carry what makes me happy and what makes me feel most comfortable. On the flip side, I know someone who thinks she's better than everyone because she doesn't wear expensive designer clothing.

Wear what makes you happy, Gollygwhiz -- enjoy your Hermes scarves! :D

Thanks! My family is fine with it, but at first my husband had a hard time. He was afraid that I'd make him dress differently. I just want to look nicer because it makes me happy. I don't care what someone else choses to wear.
