I'd say 98% of the general population (except in certain neighborhoods and luxury stores) have no idea what an Hermes bag is. But those who do know and respond in a snide or dismissive way act like that because they can't afford such items on their own. Back in the day when I couldn't afford Hermes, I was in an Hermes store (for the first time) browsing and I heard a SA say 'this bag is $9K.' My reaction was 'wtf?!' and walked right out. But now that I have the financial means to spend that much on a bag, I think 'if that person can afford it and wants to enjoy an Hermes bag, good for them!' Its those that can't afford such luxuries that envy us and react rudely. That's my opinion. Too bad, so sad for them.

It's just like how we have a nice new Mercedes or BMW and ppl put dents on it on purpose. They're just insanely jealous!!! Geez! Good thing ur H bag was okay. (Well my birkin sustained a burning cigarette for 1 second by accident)

interesting thread

some of my 'friends' passage to h were ouch-inducing painful processes to observe...

oh nice bag (genuine compliment) - omg is that another one (still genuine unconcerned enthusiam) - silence (friend shocked and confused by prices on ebay) - oh did you see such and such got a xxxx (start of cattiness trying to belittle peaceful contented h toter with someone else's bag) - oh they are so common i just prefer (name any brand) - more silence (friend disappears for a while secretly gossiping to anyone who will listen about how abcdxyandz (h toters) spend to fill emotional voids, h-toters husbands only pay for bags to compensate for lack of attention, h-toters are competing with each other etc etc) while in fact 'friend' is frantically hunting down targeted bag - 'friend' buys a herbag (that they don't like or want) but hides it from abcd-z - 'friend' buys a chanel jumbo or something that they do like and carries it openly while researching h colours and prices - friend orders and saves - when 'friend' gets the call or delivery of desired bag is imminent 'friend' not-announces it by seeing you with a bag and cheekily quips 'didya know that such and such (whatever she saw you with or worse still the only thing she thinks you don't have to test if yours are superfakes) costs such and such?' - you answer 'umm well yeah' or 'really.. umm no... mine was a present' - more intensely irritated silence - finally friend appears usually with a birkin, only very rarely a kelly and never ever a lindy or any other design

At the end of the painful process during which friendships have been sorely tested by gossip, claws have been unfurled and sharpened, 'friend' dh has complained bitterly to your dh, 'friend' dc's have innocently announced 'secret arrival', i am just thinking wouldn't it just be easier to just 'like - order/search - save - buy - enjoy' ? :)

Hello. Let me please share my story with you. A couple of years ago, a close friend of mine asked about the price of my birkin & the availability in the store I usually deal with. I explained to her that I have an excellent relationship with the sales manager there & that he might be willing to let me know whenever he gets new stock. Since that store was not in my country(It is in Europe), she said: No, I prefer to pass by whenever I go there, Then she added: If I buy a birkin, it has to be a genuine one!!!!! Our friends & I were really shocked at her answer. I calmly replied that the store is the main Hermes store in one of the most important European countries. She just kept quite.
A month back, she had to go on a business trip to that European city. She asked if she could visit that Hermes store & mention my name to the sales manager. I, of course, said yes. She asked whether she will be able to get a birkin or kelly. I told her that my friend there is very helpful & he will be glad to assist her if he has any available. After she came back from her trip, and in a gathering of 5 of our mutual friends, she talked about her trip & visit to the store & then she added... I am sure that He (Hermes Sales manager) sells YOU fake stuff....!!! i.e he sells fake Hermes bags & belts FROM THE MAIN HERMES STORE in that city!!!:sad::sad::sad:

WOW, candosha, your friend sounds delusional. It sounds like she thinks very highly of herself. It's pure ignorance and arrogance that a person like that can make such statements. I say let people like her wallow in their own stupidity. Just laugh it off. If she's so obsessed and preoccupied with fakes, let her worry about it, at least you know yours is real.

WTF... sounds like ur "friend" cannot afford expensive stuff and has a false believe that SAs at H stores has fake stuff to sell at H stores... that is so ridiculously cheap!!! your "friend" must be from a very poor background and never (or very rarely) get to buy expensive stuff... Oh My!!!!

I was having lunch with 2 good friends today and someone at the restaurant kicked my So Kelly on purpose! It was almost shot to the other side of the room!
I was too shocked to say anything.

Any man who does this deserves to be kicked where it hurts his spouse/partner/inflatable dummy the most.

Glad your bag is OK.

Well, when I got the shoulder birkin II in etoupe some months back, my friends' comments ranged from "omg, so nice!" to "are you mad, why would you want to cary something the size of a missle launcher?"

Whatever.... I LOVE my SBII!!

Last week, during lunch time I was browsing at Chanel makeup counter at one of the shopping mall. A woman standing next to me who was busy testing all the perfume, turmed to me, pointed to my H Amazonia Evelyne and said: "What a beautiful bag! BUT too bad its FAKE!".

I was taken aback coz she is not a friend, just a stranger, I can even hear the Chanel SA sucked in her breathe and stared at her. I turned to this woman, *smiled* and replied: "Honey, its more REAL then your boobs!".

Without waiting to see her reaction, I turned to the Chanel SA, asked whereabout is the Cashier and left to pay for my purchases...

I know I was mean BUT she was rude first...

I was at a MiuMiu store the other day with my Birkin, a lady with a TATA bag passed by and told her mom: "See, I told you! Mine looks exactly like the real one! Why bother to get a real one anyway if mine costs much less?" Then her mom looked at my bag and started nodding and laughing. :shrugs:
